Kara operated like a tiger, but somehow activated the self-destruct system of the tank, then abandoned it for a better tank and replaced it with a locomotive before setting off.
Ah Fu and Jennifer upstairs clearly heard the commotion downstairs. Jennifer stood at the windowsill, holding an ice cream she hadn't finished, watching the silver-gray figure of Kara disappear into the distance. She turned to look at Ah Fu.
Ah Fu muttered, "Did I forget to tell her that this is the latest tank?"
It turned out the tank was equipped with a new feature—a spare locomotive hidden within the system. If the tank sustained critical damage, the locomotive could be deployed to maintain mobility. However, to prevent enemies from reclaiming it, the tank was designed to self-destruct once the locomotive was activated.
Kara, familiar only with older tank models, had unknowingly triggered the self-destruct sequence while operating the tank. By the time she found Bruce and joined him, he looked at her in surprise. "Were you attacked?"
Kara, too embarrassed to admit her mistake, nodded vaguely. "Yeah. Where's Harvey?"
Bruce didn't press further and simply said, "He's laying low for now. Harvey is luring Joker out. Once he does, we'll take action."
Kara stretched, then eyed the locomotive critically. It wasn't an ordinary motorcycle. To achieve high speeds safely, the design forced her to lean completely forward on the bike, which made it incredibly tiring—like holding a push-up position for the entire ride. While efficient, it was far from comfortable.
"It would've been better to prepare a cooler bike or, better yet, a proper sports car for me," Kara remarked.
Bruce shrugged. "It would've been cheaper." Internally, he regretted offering her the latest tech.
While Kara complained, Bruce received the update that the convoy escorting Harvey had departed. Earlier that day, Harvey had publicly confessed to being Batman at a reception, part of their plan to bait Joker into action. The plan included transferring Harvey to another prison, knowing Joker would likely intervene.
As predicted, not long after the convoy set off, they encountered a pre-arranged roadblock—a few burning trucks obstructing their path. This forced the convoy into an underground tunnel, where more trucks ambushed them with heavy firepower. The situation grew dire, and the convoy struggled to respond.
Bruce turned to Kara. "Want to ride with me?"
"Forget it," Kara replied, shaking her head. "Working with you will only hold me back."
Before Bruce could protest, Kara added, "Do you realize how many people have already died while we hesitated?"
Bruce fell silent. Kara started her locomotive and shot ahead with a burst of silver light, leaving Bruce no choice but to follow.
By the time they arrived, the ambush had escalated. Joker's men were deploying rocket launchers, adding to the chaos.
"Bruce," Kara remarked through their comms, her tone sarcastic, "you still think keeping these lunatics alive is a good idea?"
Bruce's voice was calm. "We need Joker alive."
Kara rolled her eyes. "If you say so." She revved her bike and sped towards the convoy.
The two had entered the tunnel from the opposite end, meeting the convoy head-on rather than chasing it. Kara weaved through the escort vehicles, targeting a gang truck in the distance.
The truck's driver and co-driver exchanged a glance, then smirked. It was just a bike. What could it do to a truck? They sped up, confident they could crush it.
Bruce's heart leaped. "Kara!" he shouted. "What are you doing?"
The comm crackled with her reply. "Relax, I'm not dead yet."
At the last moment, Kara lifted the front of the bike, launching herself into the air. The bike smashed through the windshield, crashing into the cab with immense force. The impact obliterated both the driver and the co-driver instantly.
Kara restarted her bike inside the cab, kicked open the door, and leaped out. The now driverless truck spun out of control, crashing into the tunnel wall with a deafening boom.
Bruce exhaled deeply, relieved. Not only would he have been devastated to lose Kara, but he also didn't want to explain her fate to Jennifer.
With Kara safe, Bruce sprang into action. He rammed his tank into the underside of another truck, flipping it over with sheer force.
In the blink of an eye, both Kara and Bruce had taken out enemy trucks. They quickly locked their sights on the final truck—Joker's vehicle.
