"Harry, let's report Snape!"
"If we get rid of that old bat, our lives will be a lot easier!"
The surrounding Gryffindors perked up at Ron's words. "Yeah! If complaining about Quirrell works, surely complaining about Snape makes sense too! He favors Slytherin and docks points from us whenever he can."
As long as Snape was gone, wouldn't they have a chance to win the House Cup?
Not only was Harry tempted, but the other Gryffindors were ready to take action, planning to imitate Hufflepuff and fill the headmaster's office with water creatures the very next morning.
With so many people around, Wayne found it hard to break free. He could only exchange a few words with Qiu, agreeing to meet after class by the Black Lake, before being pulled back by his two roommates to the common room.
Today, not only did Wayne avoid punishment, but he also earned fifty points for his house; they had to celebrate this victory!
As a Hufflepuff, celebrating is really quite simple. The kitchen is just at the entrance. A few upperclassmen went in and ordered a huge pile of snacks and cake, and even asked the house-elf to borrow a few brooms to fetch some yellow wine and beer.
"Wayne, here's to you!"
"Wayne, here's to you!"
Pierre, the seventh-year prefect, raised his glass and clinked it with Wayne's. "If it weren't for your bravery, Professor Dumbledore wouldn't have said that."
"Finally, we can get rid of Quirrell that… fake professor!"
Pierre's face flushed with excitement, and Wayne laughed along. However, deep down, he didn't have much confidence in the outcome. It was a sacrifice of an entire year of the defensive magic class for the younger wizards, but it was also an opportunity to observe Voldemort's movements right under their noses. Dumbledore's choice was clear. It aligned perfectly with that saying of his: "Everything for the greater good."
However, Wayne wouldn't voice this out loud. At the very least, Quirrell had to make some changes in the time to come; otherwise, not even Dumbledore could persuade everyone.
The celebration continued until eleven o'clock, after which people began to leave one by one. Wayne returned to the dormitory, where Toby and Norman kept asking him about the conversation with Dumbledore. Wayne didn't hold back. Upon hearing that he recommended Snape as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, the two quickly changed their tone.
"Toby, how could you think this way?" Toby said seriously.
"Yeah," Norman added, visibly unsatisfied. "How can Professor Snape be a substitute professor? He must teach for the entire semester!"
"I suggest we all co-sign a letter next semester recommending Snape for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position!"
Wayne thought to himself, "You two are really something…"
