Capítulo 22: Chapter 22

Carrie's situation at school shocked both the teachers and the principal.

After all, Carrie was almost eighteen, yet she was ignorant about basic health knowledge, and her physical condition was poor, possibly due to dietary issues or genetic diseases.

The school contacted her guardians, and Margaret was called to pick her up.

The school also communicated the situation to Margaret in detail, hoping that as a guardian, she could take good care of her daughter.

Thus, after the school day ended, the two finally left the school.

On the way home, the atmosphere in the car was particularly gloomy.

After the teacher's guidance, Carrie's nervousness eased, and she realized that her body had undergone some changes.

Looking at the silent Margaret, Carrie pondered for a long time before she decided to speak up.

"Sorry, Mom, for making you come to school to pick me up."

Margaret glanced at her but didn't say much, remaining silent as she drove.

When they arrived home, Margaret slowly turned her head, her gaze revealing emotions that Carrie couldn't quite read.

"Get out, come inside with me."

Seeing that Carrie didn't respond, Margaret added, "Get out of the car and come inside."

"Mom, why didn't you tell me?"

Carrie, feeling uncomfortable under Margaret's calm demeanor, asked.

"I was terrified. I thought I was terminally ill. They mocked me and threw things at me…"

Margaret impatiently opened the car door. "We'll talk about it at home."

Ignoring Carrie, she got out of the car and walked towards the house.

"No!"

Carrie mustered her courage, opened the car door, and called out to her guardian's back, "I want you to tell me here!"

She then glanced over at the Xue family's house next door but saw no sign of Randy. All the lights were off.

Margaret paid no attention to Carrie and walked briskly to the front door, smoothly opening it with her keys. She glanced back briefly, and seeing Carrie hadn't moved, she entered the house.

Carrie, feeling abandoned and hurt by her guardian's indifferent attitude, stood there helplessly.

The fear of being left alone began to overwhelm her.

Unable to sever the bond of kinship, she reluctantly got out of the car and slowly made her way home.

But just after a few steps, Carrie heard the sound of a bicycle bell.

A bicycle stopped at her house's entrance.

"Whew."

Randy dismounted and took a deep breath, turning to look at the helpless Carrie.

The more he looked, the more surprised he became, his gaze growing increasingly greedy.

Before, he had only vaguely sensed Carrie's uniqueness, but now that her magical power had awakened, the aura surrounding her was exposed blatantly to Randy.

It was a powerful talent.

Wind, thunder, and fire mingled continuously.

And it was constantly evolving and growing.

If this were a fantasy world, Carrie would be an unparalleled genius.

While others struggled through the stages of energy cultivation, Carrie already had the basic strength of a great master.

However, this was entirely invisible to ordinary people.

She was truly a great mage, and only Randy could see how impressive her foundation was.

"Randy?"

Carrie tentatively spoke, feeling uneasy under his gaze.

"Sorry."

Randy composed himself. "I heard about what happened at school. Your classmates were too much; they shouldn't have treated you that way."

Carrie's expression immediately grew complicated. While she wished for comfort, she didn't want it from Randy because it would expose her vulnerability and make her feel as if she had lost her dignity.

"Carrie, you need to understand that it's not you who's wrong, but the world. You're unique and special; you just haven't found a good place to belong. Also, remember that we're friends…"

Before Randy could finish, the door behind Carrie suddenly opened.

Margaret, with a grim face, interrupted him.

"Carrie!"

Carrie, who had been feeling somewhat moved, immediately became anxious upon hearing her guardian's voice.

"Mom, this is Randy, our neighbor."

"Go inside."

Margaret spoke in a flat tone, her eyes fixed on Randy from start to finish.

"Mom?"

"Quickly!"

Under Margaret's pressure, Carrie could only make frantic eye gestures at Randy before retreating into the house.

Margaret immediately closed the door and locked Carrie inside.

"I know you. I don't care what you were up to before, but you'd better not have any ill intentions."

She directed these words at Randy.

"I mean no harm, Mrs. Margaret."

Randy smiled.

Margaret's expression remained stern. "Whether you have ill intentions is up to you to know."

Randy shrugged. "Alright, I won't disturb you any longer."

There was no need to argue with someone like Margaret or waste time dealing with her. Her autocratic nature would be a great aid in his pursuit of Carrie.

Randy pushed his bicycle away from the house.

Carrie only needed to quietly wait for her outburst.

If Carrie didn't have magical powers, she might self-destruct in such a repressive environment.

But now she possessed supernatural powers capable of changing everything, which would restore the confidence she lacked. This power could even destroy everyone in the town, an alternative version of a national model, so she would definitely try to escape Margaret's control.

However, Margaret wouldn't spare any familial affection; she was solely focused on extreme doctrines. Once Carrie's magical power was revealed, Margaret would surely consider her ominous, making the situation even more intriguing.

After Randy left, Margaret's extreme nature was fully revealed.

She stormed into the room with a dark face.

Carrie anxiously sat in a chair, looking at her guardian approaching and about to explain.

"Mom, Randy is a good person…"

"Enough."

Margaret cut her off. "Carrie, you're already a woman now."

While speaking, Margaret picked up a Bible from the table and began reading from it.

"God created Eve from Adam's rib, and then what, Carrie?"

"Mom?"

"Tell me, Carrie, God created Eve from Adam's rib, what happened next?"

This was the story from Genesis in Eden, and even non-Christians knew what happened afterward.

Carrie, feeling distressed, looked at her guardian. "Mom, it's not my fault. The teacher said this is basic health knowledge…"

"And then? Carrie, Eve's weakness brought disaster to the world."

Margaret's demeanor became frenzied. "This disaster is called sin! Quickly say it, this disaster is called sin!"

Carrie, crying, shook her head. "No."

"Say it quickly!"

Margaret struck Carrie's face with the Bible without hesitation. "Say it!"

"This disaster… is called sin. This disaster is called sin."

Margaret squatted down and pressed the Bible against Carrie's face. "The first sin is sex!"

"I haven't committed a crime? Mom?"

In response to Carrie's question, Margaret hit her with the Bible, the chaotic pages and heavy cover knocking Carrie to the ground.

Margaret continued to approach her daughter. "Then God cursed Eve; this curse is the curse of menstruation!"

"No, no, this isn't a curse of menstruation. The teacher said it's a normal health phenomenon!"

"Say it's the curse of menstruation, quickly say it!"

Margaret was caught in a frenzy, continuously striking Carrie with the Bible and raising her head to seek God's forgiveness.

"Maturity is the breeding ground for desire, and desire leads to evil sexual relations, just like the story of eating the forbidden fruit in Eden."

Carrie, crying, protested, "No, Mom, this is all twisted."

Margaret's expression suddenly became serious. "Are you starting to doubt God's will?"

Saying this, she grabbed Carrie by the hair and dragged her towards the compartment.

"Repent to God, go and ask for His forgiveness!"

"No, Mom, don't do this."

Margaret ignored Carrie's struggles and forcefully pushed her into the compartment, then immediately locked the door.

She continued muttering.

"The second curse is the curse of childbirth, bringing pain and sweat to sinners…"
