Capítulo 37: Chapter 37: The Gift

Two days later, at the Akimichi family's barbecue restaurant, Aoba, Kakashi, Guy, Anko, Asuma, and Kurenai gathered for a get-together.

To be honest, Aoba hadn't expected the last two to show up; they were invited by Kakashi. Still, he wasn't surprised that there were already signs of something developing between them. Their relationship indeed turned out to be long, lasting until Asuma's death, without the two of them officially defining their relationship.

He didn't particularly like Hiruzen, but Asuma was alright. Asuma's constant defiance of his father made it hard for Aoba not to like him. As for Kurenai, she held a fairly high position in Konoha.

After the Uchiha clan's demise, Kurenai became one of the few in Konoha proficient in genjutsu. Although her genjutsu crumbled easily in her battle with Itachi, that was only because Itachi's genjutsu was at a master level, enhanced by the Sharingan.

Kurenai had earned her status as a special jōnin through her genjutsu, so her skills were certainly noteworthy.

After everyone had their fill of food and were sitting around chatting, Aoba took out a few items and placed them in front of the group.

"I've been studying sealing techniques lately and made a bit of progress. I prepared some gifts for you all; see if they suit your needs," Aoba said.

"Wow, Aoba, you prepared gifts? I'm really looking forward to this," Guy said excitedly.

In reality, Guy was quite lonely within the village. Though he had a cheerful and optimistic personality, he was one of those who rarely received gifts on holidays.

In fact, most ninja relationships were rather distant. Being a ninja wasn't an ordinary career—especially for those present, where even the lowest-ranked among them was a special jōnin. The missions they took on often involved killing and destruction, with their partners constantly changing from one mission to the next.

Don't think that ninjas don't have psychological issues. Just look at the abnormality that is Itachi. Most ninjas in Konoha had mental struggles, and relationships between them were often cold and distant.

This is why, later on, Naruto became the village's "favorite." He was just so sunny and full of warmth. In a world filled with cold and distant ninjas, Naruto was like a beam of light, making it impossible for people not to gravitate toward him.

"Kakashi, try this," Aoba said, handing Kakashi a smooth, round metal disc.

Kakashi took it and noticed intricate seals engraved on its surface.

"What is this?" Kakashi asked.

"Place it over the Sharingan side of your forehead protector and see what happens," Aoba suggested.

Kakashi seemed to understand what Aoba was implying. He pressed the metal disc against his Sharingan, then pulled his forehead protector over it to hold it in place.

"Now, infuse a little bit of chakra—just a small amount to activate the seals," Aoba instructed.

Kakashi followed the instructions, and a look of surprise flashed across his face.

"This effect..."

"As I envisioned, it should put your Sharingan into a dormant state—not shutting it down, but a kind of 'low power mode,' reducing its chakra consumption to a minimum. This should help alleviate your chakra shortage problem to some extent," Aoba explained.

Kakashi's lack of chakra had become somewhat of a running joke in the original world, but in reality, it was a serious issue.

Kakashi's tactical skill was incredibly high. Aoba even believed that, in terms of on-the-spot tactical adaptability, Kakashi wasn't far behind Itachi. Moreover, Kakashi had mastery over all five chakra natures and knew over a thousand jutsu, which meant that theoretically, he had very few weaknesses in battle.

However, his lack of chakra severely limited his tactical options. That's why, when facing Itachi, he was almost helpless.

After all, when faced with an opponent whose tactical skills were on par with his own, didn't have a chakra problem, and had a Sharingan that completely suppressed his own, Kakashi could hardly put up a fight.

Aoba believed that while the Sharingan elevated Kakashi's abilities, it also shackled him in some ways. By addressing this issue, he was curious to see how far Kakashi could go.

"This is incredibly thoughtful," Kakashi said, touched by the value of the gift. To others, this item might have been useless, but to him, it was a lifesaver.

"As long as it works. This thing was a bit tricky to make, so I was worried it wouldn't work as expected," Aoba admitted.

"No, it works perfectly. Thank you, Aoba."

"We're friends—no need for formalities. Guy, this is for you," Aoba said, opening a box in front of Guy. Inside were four wristbands, which upon closer inspection were made of thin metal strips pieced together, covered in intricate seals.

"Try them on," Aoba said.

"Well, I won't be shy then," Guy responded, putting on the wristbands and moving his arms a bit.

"They fit perfectly, but I assume they have some kind of special function?" Guy asked.

"That's right, try infusing a bit of chakra into them," Aoba instructed.

"Like this?" Guy followed the instructions, and even though he couldn't use ninjutsu, he was still capable of basic chakra manipulation.

"Whoa..." Guy exclaimed. After infusing chakra into the wristbands, they suddenly became several times heavier.

"These are weighted wristbands. They don't have any other special functions—just for taijutsu training. When you infuse chakra into them, the seals will increase their weight significantly."

"They aren't suitable for combat, and their defensive capabilities are limited. But for training, they should be useful," Aoba explained.

"This is... incredible! Aoba, you've thought of everything. I've always been troubled by the issue of finding compact yet effective weights for training. These wristbands solve that problem completely."

"I'm glad they're useful. Honestly, you're probably the only person in Konoha who would need something like this."

In fact, he was also wearing a set of these wristbands, but unlike Guy, he wasn't as extreme in his training. Both the weight and intensity of his exercises couldn't compare to Guy's.

"Anko, this is for you," Aoba said, handing her a small item that resembled an earpiece.

"Wear this when you're out in the field—it should enhance your sensory abilities, especially your hearing, making it easier to detect subtle sounds."

This was a custom gift for Anko. Having fought alongside her once, Aoba had noticed that her sensory abilities were rather average.

As a special jōnin, she frequently went on missions outside the village, and perception was crucial in such environments. After all, in the wild, danger could come at any time, and being able to detect it early could significantly increase her chances of survival.

This was also one of the reasons why the Hyūga clan remained a prestigious family in Konoha. No squad ever wanted to leave the village without a Hyūga partner.
