Liam woke up fully and slowly said,

"Mark, we're the ones who shorted the subprime mortgage market. The bigger the bubble, the more money we make."

Mark Baum was silent for a while before responding,

"Okay, you're right. But now, we need to pay more premiums, and the funds in your company account are running out."

"How much is left?" Liam asked.

He had been preoccupied with the Bulldogs' affairs for the past few months. In his spare time, he'd been reading to reinforce his professional knowledge, paying little attention to the financial market.

"Subprime mortgage securities fell slightly in the first two months, and Deutsche Bank paid us five million in compensation. But recently, the ABX has been rising abnormally, and you need to pay four million dollars in insurance premiums. After adding up the remaining funds, we only have six million left," Mark Baum explained.

Liam thought for a moment and said,

"This money will last for one month. That's enough. They're violating financial laws; they can't keep this up for too long."

"Of course I know that, but what I'm worried about is the big banks forcing the government to rescue the market. They're too big, and the White House won't just sit back and watch them collapse!" Mark's frustration was evident.

"Mark, calm down. We can't afford to panic now. I guarantee you, no one can save them. This is a disaster, do you understand? A financial disaster!" Liam's voice rose slightly, heavy with certainty.

A deep sigh came from the other end of the line. After a while, Mark Baum spoke,

"Thanks. I've been losing control of my emotions. This situation has been gnawing at me for days... You have to realize, we're not just betting against subprime mortgage securities. The U.S. economy has been hijacked by the real estate market. We're betting on the collapse of the entire U.S. economy. We're up against almost all of Wall Street. Just thinking about that gives me enormous pressure."

"The financial market doesn't change its rules just because of who its opponents are. If we can hold out for another two months, everything will be clear," Liam replied confidently.

"Liam, what if we lose?"

Liam chuckled,

"If you want to reach the top in one step, you need to be prepared to go through hell at some point... but we won't lose."

There was a long pause before Mark Baum finally spoke again,

"I get it. You should get some sleep. I'll call if there's any news."

After hanging up, Liam felt his drowsiness fade away. He turned and looked out the window. The moon hung high, casting a silver glow everywhere.

"I will never lose..." he whispered to himself.

The next morning, during breakfast, Javier casually asked Liam,

"Are things going well for you in the U.S.? If not, come back to Colombia. Returnees are in high demand these days."

"What are you saying..." Maria scolded gently but glanced at Liam with concern. They were always a bit uneasy, wondering if their son, so recently graduated, could really be earning so much money. Over the past year, Liam had frequently sent money back home, but his parents saved most of it, afraid he might lose his job one day.

"I've signed a formal two-year contract with the school, and I've been converted to full-time," Liam replied with a smile.

Javier's eyes lit up,

"Your annual salary was two million before. How much is it now?"

"Converted into pesos, it's around seven million," Liam said calmly.

"5300 million? Oh my God, how can a young man like you earn that much coaching overseas?" Maria exclaimed.

"Actually, it's not that much once you factor in taxes... and, Mom, I'm not a kid anymore!" Liam smiled wryly.

In April, with Mark Baum's help, Liam had paid his personal income taxes, including his salary from the Bulldogs and his gambling income in Las Vegas. It was a heavy hit, but fortunately, by then, the subprime mortgage market had started to fluctuate. He managed to withdraw some funds from the Dream Investment Company account temporarily; otherwise, he would have had to borrow from Mark.

There's an old saying in the U.S.: "The only things certain in life are death and taxes." Paying taxes is an inescapable duty for Americans. Many people might be willing to kill, rob, or sell drugs, but few dare to evade taxes.

Even Hollywood, known for satirizing the government, the FBI, and the CIA, wouldn't dare mess with the IRS.

"It's time to upgrade our house. When I get my salary next year, I'll buy you both a villa," Liam said with a grin.

"Liam"s so thoughtful! I've been saying this house isn't good—it's freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer," Javier beamed.

"What are you talking about?" Maria cut in, "Liam still has his own life to think about. He'll need the money to build his own future. How can we let him buy us a villa?"

"Dad, Mom, let's wait until next year, okay? I don't have the money for a house right now anyway," Liam chuckled.

The argument faded as Maria added with a proud grin,

"I always win our arguments!"
