Chapter 44: Medusa's Kiss
The title of a supreme sword is reserved for the strongest of weapons. Although "sword" is in the title, it encompasses all types—knives, guns, whips, gloves, and other weaponry of legendary strength.
"Senior Feiche, this weapon isn't fully forged yet," Chiba began. "But I'd like to give this whip to you as a token."
"What? This whip hasn't been completed?" Hitoru Tenguyama stared at Chiba in disbelief. The whip was already so powerful—what would it become once fully forged?
Without hesitation, Tiangushan Feiche returned the whip to Chiba, who promptly handed it to Peacock.
"I crafted this whip from the tendons and fangs of Medusa, a snake demon king," Chiba explained. "I preserved Medusa's remaining energy and spirit within the whip, so it carries her allure, her venom, and her power. The black snake phantom you see is a manifestation of her energy."
"The scales on the whip are as sharp as blades. A single strike could tear flesh from bone, and Medusa's venom ensures a lethal poison with each hit. The whip's fang-tipped end can pierce any opponent, no matter their strength. I call it 'Medusa's Kiss.'"
Peacock's face lit up with excitement. "Are you serious? You're actually giving me this weapon, a blade of supreme caliber?"
She knew all too well that a weapon of this class could amplify one's power tenfold, and with Medusa's Kiss, her abilities as a whip-wielding user would be unmatched.
"This whip perfectly complements your powers," Chiba said. "Medusa's Kiss is in your hands now. Just one drop of your blood on it, and it will be bound exclusively to you, unable to be wielded by anyone else."
"Is it really as incredible as you say?"
Chiba shrugged. "If you doubt me, I can always give it to someone else."
"No! I believe you!" Peacock bit her finger, letting a drop of blood fall onto Medusa's Kiss. Instantly, she felt a powerful connection with the whip. The phantom black snake coiled into the whip as it emitted a dark, ominous light. In her hand, it seemed to transform into a living serpent, with its tip glistening like venomous fangs.
With a flick of her wrist, Medusa's Kiss moved seamlessly, an extension of her very being. Peacock grinned as she tested her powers, slamming the whip against the ground. The impact was vast, creating ripples over a kilometer-wide area like waves in water.
Ecstatic, Peacock rubbed her cheek against the whip, reveling in its power. The whip was beyond anything she'd ever wielded; she could hardly contain her joy.
In her excitement, she leapt into Chiba's arms, planting a kiss on his cheek. "I love you to death for this, Chiba!"
Nearby, Hina watched with a scowl. "Chiba went through all that trouble for her, yet he never crafted anything like this for himself. Hina feels betrayed."
Chiba noticed Hina's sulk and gently pushed Peacock away. "Well, the whip is yours now. We're even."
Peacock merely smirked, clutching Medusa's Kiss. Her gaze turned mischievous, her eyes glinting with intent as she looked Chiba up and down.
Chiba felt a chill. "What are you planning?"
Peacock's grin widened. "Oh, nothing. You've given me Medusa's Kiss… and I think it's only fair to return the favor." She winked, taking a predatory step forward.
Chiba backed away, wary. With Medusa's Kiss in her possession, Peacock's power had skyrocketed—engaging her wouldn't be easy.
Peacock lashed out, Haki infusing her whip as it cracked toward him. Chiba raised his hammer, also infused with Haki, to block. But Medusa's Kiss shattered the hammer on impact.
"Now, Chiba, you're mine!" She flicked the whip again, its tip darting toward him like a venomous fang.
Chiba responded instantly, enveloping himself in Armament Haki, which extended like ribbons, binding Medusa's Kiss. He deftly caught the tip between two fingers, channeling his power into the whip and disrupting Peacock's control over it.
Peacock gasped. "You… you can project Haki from every part of your body? And how are you controlling my whip?"
"Who do you think forged this weapon?" Chiba smirked. "I know it better than anyone."
With a quick kick, he sent Peacock flying backward, launching her over a hundred meters into the street beyond.
