They all hung back, a tense group waiting like prisoners outside the hospital room. The walls seemed to close in around them, the sterile hospital smell sharp in the air, filling their lungs with unease. Amelia stood frozen, her mind replaying the mess that had just gone down with a heavy sense of dread, while Aiden, standing solidly beside her, looked ready to explode, his fingers twitching with frustration. 

He scoffed under his breath, throwing her a sidelong glance, eyes narrowed. "Told you, Amy, didn't I? Sooner he knew, the better. But nah, now he finds out in the most screwed-up way possible." He shook his head, running a hand through his hair, his jaw clenched tightly. This whole mess—Nick finding out like that? Yeah, it was bound to go south, and now he was angry, almost resigned to what felt inevitable.
