The pain all over my body registered first before I fluttered my eyes open, which watered at the bright light that burned the room I was in. My head ached, but I still sat up, groaning in the pain that shot through my arm.

Where am I?

The beeping machine next to my bed, the door—it was enough for me to realize that I was in a hospital room.

Memories flooded back, and my heart kicked into a rapid gallop. Sylus, my lover. Was he okay? Was he alive? Did they save him? Without a second thought, I tore off the wires connected to my body and dashed out of the room, ignoring how weak I felt or the pain shooting through my arm like a bitch. 

"Mrs. Jones! Ma'am, please, you have to go back." One of the nurses rushed up to me, grabbing my shoulders carefully so as not to hurt me. "You are not stable yet. You lost a lot of blood, please go back, please, ma'am."
