Capítulo 9: Chapter 8: How do you like me?
Five days passed since our conversation on the phone. During this time, we saw each other very rarely. However, the few rare times we met, she always greeted me with a smile. Or she was waving at me. It was a little annoying at first, but over time I got used to it.
The day of our meeting, I woke up a little late. The day before, I spent a lot of time talking to the rabbit in my head. He forced me to refuse this outing that had been planned for a while, but I had already given Carole my word. And above all, I really wanted to know what it was going to be like.
If you want to know, I considered this outing as a little experiment. I felt like a physicist trying to find an answer to a problem through an experiment.
It's a bit despicable of me to think like that but hey, it's the truth. I didn't accept this invitation because I wanted to have fun.
I spent time thinking about the role of feelings in my behavior. I wouldn't say I didn't know what feelings were either, I'm still human after all. The problem is that I thought I wouldn't feel anything anymore, until I met her.
Plus lately I've been acting weird. So I needed an answer. If my heart decided to speak to me again, I would like to know what it really wants.
Anyway, I headed towards the bus station. This was the place where we had arranged to meet.
When I arrived, she was already there. She looked at me then smiled.
"It didn't take you long. '' She said.
'' Sorry... ''
"It's okay, I only forgive you if you answer my question. ''
A question?
"I'm listening to you…" I said, getting defensive.
''Don't make that gaudy face. I'm not going to eat you. '' She said laughing.
I had reason to be defensive, especially with the influence she had over me. Also, the frank and direct look she displayed left me perplexed. What kind of question did she want to ask me?
''I would like to know, how do you find me? ''
''How do I find you? ''
I didn't take too long to think about the question and told him what was on my mind.
''Let's just say... I find you... normal. ''
She froze. His pupils seemed to dilate. I should also admit that my answer was a little weird.
I knew very well that she was asking my opinion on her appearance but I had to feign ignorance.
''A problem? '' I asked.
"Are you really asking me what's wrong? What is this far-fetched answer? Still happy that you find me normal. I just wanted to know if you found me pretty or not. ''
I seem to have made him angry.
'' So. Do you think I'm pretty or not? ''She did it again.
Furthermore, his question only allowed me one answer. At least if I wanted to spend the next few hours in peace.
I sighed and then shyly told her what she wanted to hear.
''You are lovely. ''
I didn't want to make her angry and it seemed that my response made her happy. As far as I am concerned, this compliment that I said selflessly was not a lie.
She was really beautiful. So beautiful that she attracted the attention of everyone who passed by.
''We should start moving forward don't you think? You attract too much attention. ''
''Okay let's go! ''
She took my hand without warning. I was surprised. I clutched my chest because I still felt pangs in my heart.
We took our tickets and got on a bus. There were empty seats in the back so we sat down
A minute later the bus started. Carole and I were sitting next to each other. She was very smiling and just looked at me while humming a song.
''You've been looking at me for several minutes, is there a problem? ''
''No, I'm just happy that's all. ''
'' I see... ''
"Thank you for agreeing to come. ''
"It's nothing. ''
Twenty minutes later we arrived at our destination.
We were right in the city center and the streets were very busy. We found ourselves in the middle of a field of skyscrapers, not to mention the noise pollution.
It's been a while since I've been here.
''Where are we going now? '' I asked.
"Come, follow me and you will see. ''
So I followed her as she asked me. The short stretch of path we took took us to a large square which was very busy.
Carole stopped then started waving her arms. She seemed to be speaking to a group of people near the large water fountain.
''Friends, we're not here! ''
Figures responded by waving their hands as well. She then took my hand and we walked towards them.
