When misfortune comes, it comes in pairs. Or multiples of pairs.
Rose put the box on her desk and went to the window to send a quick call to her mentor. Otherwise who could help her in solving this spell? The embassy? They will need at least ten forms just to hear her plea. The box would explode by then.
And the misfortune was that Asher came out and was about to touch the box.
It happened in slow motion.
N-O-O-O
Rose ran towards him and Asher's eyes widened.
The box could burst at any moment. It was programmed to do so after a touch from a person after it sensed Rose's magic. Or Rose's aura. That was a switch turned on. Rose's magical aura switched it on and now one more touch will make it start working and by working, it will explode.
Asher's touch was the spark to ignite the kerosene basin.
Rose reached him and took it out of his hands. He touched it and she didn't know if her magic bubble spell worked by separating his hand and the box. Maybe it worked as they were all fine.
"Boss, this is mine. Yours is there," She pointed to the pile in the corner.
"I know, I just felt the pull for a second. And I think I saw my name on it."
Stupid spell box attacking people by attracting them.
Rose quickly checked it and found the spell stationary on the box. She visibly relaxed.
"Weird, okay, I'll take my boxes and leave."
Rose watched him go in and then she took her box and left. There was only one safe place for her now. The terrace.
She climbed the stairs and found a chair under the pergola.
The box was really calm like the spell was not at all functioning. When she touched it, she felt the spell trying to pull her magic but now, it looked like a satisfied beast.
"Weird."
"You called?"
Rose looked at the phantom sent by her mentor.
"I thought you would come in person!"
"Like I said, you are being watched and I can't be alone with you where they can see me."
Yes, she was on the watch list so he couldn't switch on the ban by appearing in person.
"This box had an explosion spell and now it just stopped acting. Check it."
The phantom Klint opened a bag and Rose put it in. Then he disappeared from there.
Rose felt that this issue could be dealt with when she reached home later.
Work had to come first.
And work was a pain in her magic. She had to continuously send files and check them. It felt like a lifetime had passed and lunchtime was like an oasis in the desert.
"Just the person I want to see. My luck is wow, just wow. I won a lottery."
June followed her out. She had been waiting near the lift for her.
"Really, how much did you win?"
"I won a special character card in the Worlds Unite game."
What was that?
She talked about the game and Rose felt like it went all over her head.
When they finally settled to eat, June was still talking about the game.
"You are on which world?"
Aiden asked her.
"I'm now just entering the TriWorld."
Yeah, alien words.
"Cool, you entered the TriWorld. You need a special character card for that? How did you get it? Did you get it by trading? Traders are mostly scammers though."
June was becoming increasingly prouder as his words progressed.
"I won in the lottery."
"What?"
Well, the shock was shocking to Rose. Did this lottery mean that much?
"I'm so jealous. Can you show me your broadcast? I want to watch. Maybe you can live broadcast, people will be so jealous."
"Haha, yeah. Let's see."
Rose felt that the good luck spell worked out for June.
Spells like these never worked for Wizards and Witches. For example, if Rose used a good luck spell on herself for a day, she suffered from bad luck for two days.
Illusory luck but real suffering.
It was different for humans. Sometimes she felt that humans were the chosen ones. They had a cool physique and they weren't missing on anything even if they didn't have magic. Their technology was similar to magic anyway.
The second half of the workday was weird.
Cause Asher managed to put his files on fire. It was hilarious seeing his flabbergasted look.
"Rose, check if these files have something on them."
He was scared that other files would spontaneously combust and so he had Rose check every other file.
He gingerly touched the file and opened it. And then it burned before them. Just like that.
Even Rose was shocked. It looked like something from a magic show. Spontaneous combustion.
She saw him take other files one by one.
But still, he managed to annihilate those too.
"You can go early today. Looks like something is wrong in my office. I'll have it looked out. Someone is playing a prank."
Rose nodded. She wasn't particularly concerned about the event in his office. Maybe something was off about him. Like someone messing with him.
She could meet Klint now and talk about the explosive box.
Yo, flower, meet. Me at the
Library
Such kind of cryptic message could only be sent by Klint.
She found him standing outside the library waiting for her.
People watched him and he watched people. Maybe they thought he was some kind of actor. Because he was dressed like one. Today, he wore silver. His hair was white, and his clothes reflected light like silver.
Weird but handsome.
"Come with me."
This place had a spell that messed up magical imprints. She was safe here. No one could know that she met another wizard here.
He took her inside and then suddenly they crossed the threshold into a hidden room.
"Is this in plain sight? What if the ward breaks? Then humans can see this?"
"No, this is not a ward. It's an over-imposed spell. Those don't break. Sit down."
It was like an inside, inside of inside. Like a world inside a room. But totally different.
Like an amusement park inside a library. It was just like the opposite. Cause if she shouted here, no one could hear her outside.
"Did you check out the box? It's weird, right?"
He nodded.
"How much have you read after you came here?"
Rose averted her eyes. She didn't touch her book.
"I guessed. Then listen to me carefully."
Rose moved forward and listened attentively.
"The box had tier one explosive spell. Not made by our side of wizards. But still, it works on humans. Non-magical folk. So, you could find it easily."
She nodded.
"And the weird thing is that when I took it over, it only had the imprint but no power. It was like it had accomplished its task. You know what it means?"
"No?"
Rose really didn't understand.
"Did you extract its power?"
"No, I can't do such spells."
He stood up and walked around.
"Who touched it after you?"
"Only Asher."
She thought her bubble worked and he didn't touch it. But he did.
He raised his eyebrow.
"Then it becomes more interesting. Your buddy Asher absorbed its power. Something no human can do. Or a wizard can do."
Rose felt palpitations.
"Then he is a-," She paused thinking what it could mean if he really was.
Won't this break apart the peace and start a new war?
Klint wasn't as concerned as she was.
He finished her sentence.
"Natural!"
Asher isn't magical, he is just a special human!
Guess who sent the box?
