"I am planning to throw a brunch to welcome you and the kids back," George said. "What do you think about it?"
"A brunch?" Angella wasn't so sure. "Is it necessary?"
"Of course it is. You are back after so long and we have never formally introduced the kids to our extended family and others."
"I don't think the kids are ready for all the attention." She was worried about them.
Before George could say something to convince her, she quickly added, "Maybe we can put a pause on that for now. Let's give the kids some time to settle down first and once they are comfortable, we can move forward with the brunch."
Considering what she had said, he agreed. "Alright, we will do as you say."
"Great." She glanced at the watch and said, "I will head home first, okay? I haven't met mom yet."
"I will see you at home." He kissed the top of her head.
As Angella was heading out, George stopped her. "The kids are a reflection of their parents. They learn everything from them." He said as he walked towards her.
"So as long as you are not comfortable and confident to face everyone, the kids won't be either." He gently caressed the top of her head. "You are a strong and independent girl Angella. It's been four years already. How many more years are you planning to sacrifice over someone who is absolutely not worth it."
"Understanding what happened four years ago, I supported your decision to leave the country for a bit," he added. "But now that you are back, I want you to get back out there and show everyone the old Angella Becker, who was confident, smart and of course, beautiful, is still there."
"But nothing is the same anymore." Angella placed her hand over his. "I have two kids, dad. I am no more the wild, reckless and impulsive person I used to be. I am a mother now, I have responsibilities. I have—"
"I know, I know you are a mother now and you are playing that part so well. I couldn't be more proud of you" George smiled. "When I see how you are with Juliana and Kevin, I feel nothing but proud."
"But being a mother doesn't mean your life has come to an end," he added. "Why don't you see it as a new beginning? Kevin and Juliana need a mother but don't you think they need a father too?"
"They do," she sighed. There were times when she had felt the kids wished to have a father just like their other friends even though they never voiced it out.
"So why don't you try giving them one?" he suggested. "There are many who would definitely give anything up just to go on a date with you."
"Yeah right," Angella chuckled, clearly not believing what he said.
How was she supposed to find a date let alone a husband who would accept her as she was and her kids? Someone who would love them like his own?
