As the illusion shattered, the hallway vanished, leaving Jesse standing in the middle of a barren field cluttered with rusted shipping containers—a place that beared a resemblance to an abandoned cargo yard.

Jesse glanced down at the floor and spotted the markings he'd made while dragging his scythes. They stretched out in a line toward a familiar place—the casino, not far ahead, from the building's back door.

But his mind was still fuzzy. He wasn't strong enough yet to break through the illusion cast by an Expert-tier Awakened and his energy points was draining faster than he'd anticipated, his skin had turned deathly pale, his throat was nigh completely dry, and his gums were beginning to itch.
