Days rolled by, and all Zina had to hold onto of Daemon was the crumpled letter that was delivered to her the night of the banquet.

The next morning, she had woken up only to be informed that Daemon had travelled to the mountains to… meditate. 

That had been it. No cold goodbyes, just a lingering silence in the wake of his disappearance.

Zina had struggled to rein in the feeling of disappointment and that pressing feeling to feel like a disposable thing altogether. But the trauma of her abandonment issues had proven to be far stronger as she crawled back to her shell, forgetting about the promises shared and the vows made.
