The moon hung high in the sky when I finally stumbled back towards the tavern. The festival was still raging, but the music and laughter faded with every step I took away from the town square. The tavern, tucked away in a quiet corner of the island, was shrouded in a peaceful darkness.

My room was on the second floor, but the climb posed no challenge. I ascended with the agility of a seasoned thief, my movements silent and fluid. None of the elves stirred as I slipped back into my bed, the remnants of the night's adventure clinging to me like a sweet perfume. Exhaustion finally claimed me, and I drifted off to sleep, the woman's laughter echoing faintly in my dreams.

The elven captain's unexpected appearance in my room the next morning jolted me awake. "Did you leave last night?" he asked, his voice deceptively casual.
