Inside a small dilapidated hall, a young man stood leaning on the table with his hands crossed.
In front of him were a pair of young people, Cathy with her signature worried-big-sis face on and Kael with his obnoxious mask which revealed nothing about his true feelings.
For the past 15 minutes, he recited everything that happened in the last half hour.
"I can't believe this all happened when I was still in the house…" Kael murmured with a tinge of shame.
"Are you sure it was a Giant Short-faced though, Felix?" Cathy asked, "Didn't they go extinct in the ice age?"
"They did." Felix nodded with a serious look, "This can't be a mere coincidence that I found two dangerous extinct animals from the ice age down here, Cath."
"Two?" she gasped.
"He saw a saber-toothed cat using grandpa's binoculars." Kael sighed.
"And you are telling this to me NOW?" Cathy shot up and pointed a finger at Felix, angry.
Felix held her finger and curled it back into her fist, "Yeah."
"..." Cathy looked at him deadpanned.
"Sorry." Felix added with a curt nod.
She sighed and slumped back on the couch.
"So what now, genius?"
"I don't know." Kael leaned his head on his palms, appearing to be deep in thought.
"Yeah, but you aren't a genius. I asked Felix, not you." Cathy snickered while Kael rolled his eyes at her.
"Mr. Karl," Felix answered, "I am scared, but we need him. Let's go to the cell tower."
"But before that," he added while taking out some handguns and magazines from his pocket and waist.
He displayed it on the table.
"Take one each." Felix said.
"Wow! I always wanted one such baby!" Kael excitedly picked up a Glock 17, cradling it in his arms.
Cathy shyly picked up a Glock 19, also excited but hiding it.
Felix nodded and took a Glock while hiding the other ones inside the house, also taking a few magazines and keeping the rest.
"Let's go!" Kael jumped up from the couch, his pistol in his hands.
Felix stared at him deadpanned, and then pointed at the pistol.
"Oh, sorry." Kael scratched his head and hid it in his waist like Felix. Cathy also coughed and hid it before Felix reprimanded her.
"Let's go." Felix pushed the door open, walking in front like a mother duck followed by two dumb baby ducklings.

The base of the cell tower.
"MR. KARL! YOU ARE OKAY!" a young man shouted excitedly, running towards an old man.
"Haha, aren't you an excited one Colt?" Mr Karl standing at a height of 5'6 and a wrinkly face, smiled warmly when he saw the young man.
He then looked around, finding many townspeople staring at him in worry. Karl felt touched.
"Old man, now repair the tower! I need to call my mom's boyfriend!" among the townspeople, a voice called out.
"Hahaha, How's Mari doing, Morris?" Karl chuckled at the young man's words, not minding his tone.
"Tsk, in a nearby city with her boyfriend. A vacation on the beach." Morris clicked his tongue in irritation.
"Good for her." Karl smiled, looking around with his bleak blurry eyes, he coughed and then asked, "Can someone explain to this old man where we are?"
By this time Felix and two ducklings joined the neighbors, standing around Karl. Coincidentally, Felix was again standing near the man whose stepdad is in the military.
"How's Karl?" Felix tapped his shoulder and asked.
"Alive," Morris replied without turning his head.
"And your stepdad?" Felix scoffed, finally causing Morris to turn around.
"He isn't my fucking stepdad, bastard! Who the hell even are you?!" Morris snapped, looking at Felix's face which was covered by a black mask.
"Felix, nice to meet you." Felix nodded, "So, how's Karl?"
"Morris," Morris sighed, "Old man is asking everyone what happened. He still doesn't know his wife and his younger son are dead, so expect him to have a breakdown soon enough." he told without much sympathy for the poor man.
"Shit." Felix cursed.
"Yeah, shit." Morris nodded.
"Is it just me or these two cold-hearted anti-social weirdos are actually vibing?" Kael who was standing beside Cathy, turned to her and asked in surprise.
"I know right? I thought he would die without friends!" Cathy nodded like a hen pecking.
"I can hear you." Felix turned backward, shutting the two quickly.
"We need to worry more about Mr. Karl." Morris casually came among their circle, pointing out.
"We need the cell tower fixed." Felix nodded.
"Guys can we worry more about his feelings instead…" Cathy was at a loss for words.
"Time waste."
"No."
The two replied at the same time.
Kael sighed, racking his hand through his well-styled hair, "I will go check up on the old man."
"I will come with you!" Cathy walked with Kael, merging into the crowd that surrounded Karl.
Now Felix and Morris were left alone on the outside of the circle that surrounded Karl.
"Uhh so, how you doin'?" Morris, feeling awkward turned to Felix and asked.
"Don't." Felix turned towards the crowd, listening to their conversation.
"Right." Morris pursed his lips.
By now, Karl had found out about his late wife and daughter, causing him to fall to his knees and cry.
Seeing the old man cry his heart out, even Felix began to feel sadder, but when he remembered about their current predicament, his heart hardened.
This wasn't a time to feel sad and cry. If his guess was true, the Short-faced bear and Saber-toothed cat weren't the only possible threats. In the ice age, the area around UNA was home to many dangerous creatures, some that could sneak in the night and cause a huge massacre, or some that would attack in packs, killing everyone in sight.
Kael and Cathy were near Karl, consoling him in pity.
Felix, standing on the outskirts, listened closely. Nearby, he heard someone saying that they found Karl and his elder son stuck in the garage, hiding under their old car.
If it wasn't for that car, Karl would have died too.
"Felix, they are talking about repairs." Morris exclaimed near him.
"I can hear." Felix nodded.
Inside the circle, someone had gently brought up the topic of the cell tower and Karl took it better than Felix honestly expected.
"I will look for the repairs, I don't want my wife and my daughter's grave to be built in a ditch down here." Karl wiped his tears, getting up from the ground.
Felix smiled, but then he felt something weird.
His right hand had unconsciously moved towards the back of his waist, tightened around the grip of his handgun.
He quickly retracted his hand in shock, 'What's wrong with me?!'
