Capítulo 84: How it work

Earlier...

'What is this?'

Red opened the door and observed the huge, terrifyingly vast room.

This place was kept quite clean. Could it still be used for something?

Red, along with his Pokémon, proceeded with Charmander leading the way.

Suddenly, Charmander stopped, causing Red to look over at it.

"...?"

"Char!" (I just saw something!)

'You saw something?'

"..."

"Char!" (Alright then!)

Charmander started heading toward the direction it noticed something, with Red following.

And what Red found was a boy lying on the ground, motionless.

"?!"

Red was shocked and moved closer to check on the boy.

Only to recognize the boy's face.

'A player?! But why is he here??'

Red slowly examined the player, but something felt wrong...

The body was freezing cold! It was like... he was dead.

Red suddenly felt a pang of fear, as this was the first time he'd seen someone dead in front of him.

But he was a player, right? They can respawn, can't they?

...right?

Feeling unsure and uncertain, Red had to call the system for help.

A few seconds later, the system appeared.

[Huh? What's going on, host? I was busy chatting with my brothers.]

"..."

[A player died? Ohhhhh... well, you can revive him by buying a resurrection ticket from the shop.]

"???"

[Alright then, bye!]

"!!"

[Hmm? Oh, I guess I didn't explain why, even though they're labeled as players, they can't respawn like in a game, huh? Sorry, I forgot to mention it.]

The system began explaining.

[Our world has never been a game. It's a real world. The world of the players is just a parallel world, like other worlds.]

[The difference is that their world wasn't created by Lord Arceus, meaning there's a possibility... they come from a more real world.] (meaning real life)

[And Lord Arceus created a gateway for them to come to this world through the devices they use to "play this game."]

"..."

[Hmm? Oh, I just gave a brief explanation; here's the main point.]

[The other worlds they go to are just through the transmission of consciousness, which means if the "game" closes and the player can't access it anymore, those worlds will return to their original state.]

[But our world is Lord Arceus's homeland, and he seems to trust the players, so he gave them a new body, and their soul is transferred to this new body.]

"...!"

[You guessed it correctly, which means... the players are really dead.]

Upon hearing the news, Red was utterly shocked.

Sweat dripped down his face as his terrified and remorseful eyes looked at Zero2hero.

'...I've pulled a dead player into my world.'

Seeing Red's mood turn negative, the system had to explain.

[Host, players dying isn't exactly uncommon. Do you think Lord Arceus would let a bunch of idiots into his world without any preparation?]

Hearing this, Red looked up.

[Open the shop, Host. Honestly, I think you're one of the least dependent on the system (since I've read novels where people rely heavily on their systems), but you're the Admin responsible for managing the players, so you should at least use it a little, right? It won't hurt you.]

Hearing that, Red opened the shop.

A variety of items were available for sale, even including Red's underwear.

...Wait, why is my underwear here?

Ignoring that, Red typed into the search bar using the virtual keyboard.

After pressing Enter, Red saw quite a few items.

[Player resurrection ticket: 10,000 Pokédollars]

[Native resurrection ticket: 1 million Pokédollars]

[Checkpoint: 10 million]

[Blah blah blah]

'That's a lot…'

But why is the resurrection cost for a player so low?

[Players are inherently stupid and extremely troublesome, so it's no surprise if they die a lot. That's why Lord Arceus set a low price for it,] the system explained.

Hearing that, Red let out a sigh, thinking Arceus only saw them as diligent ants (which is true, after all).

But when Red opened his wallet, he almost cried.

He only had 13,450 left!

I'm so poor! And they say being a trainer is profitable!

But looking at Zero2hero, his regret over spending money vanished.

A life is a life, I can't be stingy with money! (Even if his life only costs 10,000.)

Determined, Red decided he must resurrect him no matter what.

He tapped "buy," and a ticket appeared in his hand.

It was poorly written, as if the creator didn't respect it… (Arceus really doesn't like players, huh…)

"..."

[Huh? Oh, just place the ticket on your hand and slap him hard.]

"..."

Apologizing in his heart, Red placed the ticket on his hand and slapped him hard.

As he slapped, the letters on the ticket imprinted onto Zero2hero's face, then turned into golden light.

Gradually, Zero2hero's body started showing signs of life, his skin becoming a bit brighter.

Then, Zero2hero's eyes opened, and he quickly stood up.

"AGHHHH WHERE'S THAT BASTARD?! I'LL HIT HIM IN THE STOMACH AGAIN UNTIL HE VOMITS EVERYTHING HE ATE!!!!!"

"Huh?" Zero2hero looked around in confusion before turning to Red, who was covering his ears at his loud voice.

"I remember I was fighting the captain and… and… I think I died? Feels weird," Zero2hero scratched his head.

"..."

"Huh?"

"..."

"HUH??? I don't understand a thing you're saying!"

'Oh dear, how am I supposed to make him understand?'

So, Red resorted to using body language.

...Unfortunately, Zero2hero didn't understand.

"What are you doing? I thought you'd be one of those cold, cool guys like in Korean show?"

'I really want to punch him.'

Pikachu looked at the player in front of her with visible disdain. She was about to return to her cozy sleeping spot when she suddenly sensed a terrifying surge of electricity.

Both Red and Zero2hero felt something too, then were blinded by a sudden light.

"What the heck?! I thought this power plant was shut down?!"

'Could it be that Team Rocket has started their operation?!'

If that's the case, we need to alert the Electric-type Pokémon living here!

If you're curious about what Red said to Voltorb...

"..."

Voltorb?! (What?! There are more intruders here?!)

"..."

Voltorb?!!!! Voltorb!!!!!! (W-What?!!! Those scumbags! They dare attack the Pokémon who provide us with a steady food supply!!!!!!)

Voltorb! (I'll gather everyone!)

And that's what Red said to Voltorb.

Right now…

Red then assigned Pidgeotto to inform the Electric-type Pokémon (Pidgeotto: Are you kidding me?).

After that, Red and Zero2hero, unsure how to get upstairs, noticed the elevator.

...Let's hope the power doesn't go out halfway.

The two pressed the button to open the elevator door and stepped inside.

*ding ding~

Red pressed the button for the highest floor, thinking that's where Team Rocket might be.

As the elevator door closed, gentle music started playing.
