Capítulo 5: Chapter 5 Yan Jingting is Protecting Chu Zhiyi

The driver sat in the car, staring at the Chu family's mansion for a long while, and when starting the car, he even asked her, "Such a nice house, don't you have a driver to drop you off?"

Having forced a smile all day, Chu Zhiyi responded without much expression, "This isn't my home, I just passed by on my way to take care of some business."

"I see."

People who could afford to live in such a place were either rich or noble.

Although the girl was pretty, not a single piece of her clothing was a designer brand, and it was obvious she couldn't possibly live here.

The place where Chu Zhiyi now lived was a modest two-bedroom apartment of just over eighty square meters, small but fully equipped.

She sat on the sofa, taking out her laptop to look at the materials her teacher had sent her.

Yan Jingting of the CE Group.

Just how big was this group, anyway?

Any well-known company name in information technology, pharmaceuticals, machinery, real estate, and other industries had CE holding shares, and not a small percentage at that.

Yan Jingting, meanwhile, was the executive director of CE Group, a decision-maker within CE whose word was law, and his net worth was said to be at least in the hundreds of billions.

Perhaps because of his health, Yan Jingting had never given an interview to any media.

But this time, he had unexpectedly agreed to an interview with Jiang City's financial column.

Chu Zhiyi still remembered the matter of Yan Jingting's psychological abnormalities; privately, she did not wish to be overly involved with such a high-profile individual.

She sent a message to her teacher asking why she should go.

It wasn't long before the teacher replied.

It turned out that he had found out about the time Yan Jingting had given a lecture at Capital City's Media University and learned about how she had asked him a question.

He thought that since Chu Zhiyi had already had an encounter with Yan Jingting, bringing her along might enable them to uncover more issues.

As she pondered this, her teacher sent her another message.

Teacher: Prepare some personal questions, and if the conversation goes well on Friday, find an opportunity to ask them.

After reading this, Chu Zhiyi thought:...

What counts as personal?

Like asking Yan Jingting how many girlfriends he had dated?

Chu Zhiyi fantasized for a while about how the scene would play out if she asked him that question, then decisively shook her head!

"If I really asked that, I might not see tomorrow's sun!"

...

After Chu Zhiyi finished her work, she left with her teacher at 4:30 pm promptly to head over to CE Group.

"Let's go, take my car," Jiang Wencheng offered to Chu Zhiyi who was getting ready to hail a taxi.

Without dallying, Chu Zhiyi smiled and said, "Thank you, teacher."

On the way, Chu Zhiyi also received a call from Father Chu.

He made her promise again and again to mention the Chu's in front of Yan Jingting.

It would be even better if Yan Jingting could remember her.

Chu Zhiyi gave a few noncommittal responses and then hung up.

Looking at Chu Zhiyi through the rearview mirror, Jiang Wencheng said, "Zhiyi, interviewing President Yan is a hard-earned opportunity for us; you can't mess this up for me."

Chu Zhiyi smiled lightly, "Don't worry, teacher, I won't ask anything extra."

She was clear on her own role.

As for Father Chu's instructions...

She dismissed them like barking dogs.

Jiang Wencheng drove Chu Zhiyi to the CE headquarters.

The assistant was already waiting downstairs and hurried over when he saw Chu Zhiyi.

"Reporter Jiang, Reporter Chu, welcome to the CE Group," the assistant greeted Jiang Wencheng and Chu Zhiyi as he shook hands with them separately.

"There are ten minutes left until 5:30. Would you two like a quick tour with me first?"

"Is that okay?"

"Of course."

Chu Zhiyi was also responsible for taking photos this time, and she asked if she could take pictures.

The assistant naturally nodded.

Jiang Wencheng said with a smile to the assistant, "Zhiyi is the best photographer in our station; she has won quite a few awards in school."

The assistant revealed an impeccable smile and praised, "Reporter Chu is truly impressive."

This was something he obviously knew.

Jiang Wencheng hinted to Chu Zhiyi with his eyes, signaling her to take good photos.

Chu Zhiyi immediately got enthused and took quite a number of photos in one go.

It was only when they went to see Yan Jingting that Chu Zhiyi stopped and obediently acted as an assistant, holding the camera and following behind Jiang Wencheng.

Just as they arrived at the conference room level, Chu Zhiyi saw a door open right in front of them, and a group of people filed out.

The man in the middle at the front was in a wheelchair, turning his head to listen to someone bending over to talk to him.

Chu Zhiyi caught sight of him in an instant.

Yan Jingting.

Dressed in a crisp suit, his hand casually rested on the wheelchair's armrest; when he turned his head, the distinct line of his neck was very attractive.

His black hair was neatly pulled back, with a widow's peak on his forehead, the curve smoothly transitioning down to the brow bone, then tracing a high bridge over his nose, ending with thin, light-colored lips.

Even seated in a wheelchair, his demeanor set him apart from the group of elites behind him by a wide margin.

Chu Zhiyi was a bit stunned as she watched, and subconsciously raised her camera, capturing this scene.

When Yan Jingting heard the click of the camera, he turned his head to look over.

As the sound of the camera gently rang, Chu Zhiyi realized what she had done and was about to apologize when the others made a bigger commotion than her.

"What did you take!" someone angrily snatched her camera away.

"President Yan has always disliked being photographed; who are you that you don't even understand the rules?"

"Aren't you going to delete the photo and kick her out?"

Someone seeing an opportunity immediately tried to establish their image in front of Yan Jingting, pushing Chu Zhiyi away.

Chu Zhiyi staggered backward for two steps before steadying herself, frowning as she spoke, "You can delete that photo, but please don't tamper with the rest."

Yan Jingting looked at Chu Zhiyi, his gaze shifting to the man, his tone cold, "Did I tell you to rob someone else's things?"

The man who had grabbed Chu Zhiyi's camera intending to delete the photos froze in his actions.

"Return the camera to her and submit your resignation."

The man felt as though a bolt from the blue had struck him.

The incident wasn't over; Yan Jingting then spoke to the two men who were about to expel Chu Zhiyi, "And you two."

There was an eerie silence at the scene.

The three men, struck by Yan Jingting's calm yet decisive words, left the conference room with ashen expressions, wondering what exactly they had done wrong.

They did not even dare to ask.

Chu Zhiyi, holding her camera that she had gotten back, was still unable to react for a moment.

"President Yan is indeed as unpredictable as the rumors say," Jiang Wencheng murmured to Chu Zhiyi.

Chu Zhiyi glanced at Yan Jingting, unsure of his intentions for acting this way.

If he didn't like her taking his picture in private, Chu Zhiyi would naturally have deleted it, but Yan Jingting had directly fired the men who had interrogated her.

It wasn't that she was being narcissistic, but Yan Jingting's actions seemed... to some extent, to Chu Zhiyi, that he was protecting her.

"But with President Yan being so autocratic, will there really be that many people coming to CE?"

Although Jiang Wencheng's voice was low, the assistant still heard it.

"Reporter Jiang might not be aware, but there are too many people who want to work at CE. Those who damage the group's reputation will leave, and their positions will quickly be filled."

"I see," Chu Zhiyi said, the strange emotion dissipating immediately, apologizing, "Sorry, I felt very moved when I saw President Yan coming out of the conference room, and I subconsciously took a picture."

"If it was offensive, I can delete them."

"You'll have to ask President Yan about that yourself."
