I wake up in my bed, my eyelids still heavy with the last remnants of sleep. The events of last night feel distant, almost like a dream. I blink, trying to clear the fog from my mind as the sunlight slips through the curtains, casting a golden hue across my room.

Everything seems so normal in the soft morning light. I sigh and rub the sleep from my eyes. There's so much I need to focus on—keeping the hospital afloat, managing the staff, and, of course, working on my hand's rehabilitation.

I have to recover well enough to operate again. My hand has been a lifeline for so many, and now it's time to restore that lifeline for myself.

Pushing back the covers, I slide out of bed and head to the bathroom. As I turn on the faucet and splash cold water on my face, the icy touch jolts me back to reality. My thoughts stray for a moment, drifting toward George.
