Capítulo 2: First Day

Staring at her reflection in the mirror, Hinote slowly turned this way and that, carefully scrutinizing all of her facial features. 'Sharper cheekbones, more vibrant and brown hair, nose a tad squat, lips naturally tip downwards, average forehead...' Taking it all in she nodded. 'Cute enough kid, we'll see how I look like when I grow up. The most striking feature is definitely my eyes though.' Staring into the mirror, she couldn't help but be enraptured by her eyes, a vibrant red a few shades brighter than Kurenai - her cousin from her mother's clan. 'She's also a cute kid, a bit younger than me - enough to where I probably will be in the class above her and the "sensei year". But who knows, maybe they'll want all the slightly older kids to enroll with Asuma-san or something.'

Quirking her lips upwardly flashing a smile to herself at the end of her review, she hopped off the stool she was on, landed elegantly on the tip of her toes, before in one motion rocking to the balls of her feet, and back again. 'So much dexterity in a chubby 3-year-old body!' Reaching out above her head, she'd grab the sink. 'I wonder...' she squeezed, and squeezed, and squeezed! 'Nope, no super strength. I wonder why I have super thinking, obscene instinctive understanding of my body, incredible dexterity, and heightened reflexes, yet not strength?' Chewing on her bottom lip, a few theories cropped up in her head, but they were just that - theories.

'Theory one, even without Chakra clan shinobis are essentially eugenics-made super soldiers. Theory two, the collision of a clan child and an adult's soul created a 'genius' physically and mentally - much like Kakashi or Itachi. Theory three, even though I don't know how to use chakra or form it, every being needs Chakra to survive. As such, everyone is born or naturally has a set amount of it, and as such clan children have more, and thus are better. Theory four, both of my parents were Jonin, and as such I inherited some traits, as well as it is known that Chakra causes mutations - the most predominant being Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Madara. Theory five, some of the previous theories, or all of them combined.'

A curious hum escaped her as the last theory cropped up inside of her mind. 'Most likely theory five is true. Chakra mutates, so it makes sense that having strong parents makes you even slightly better than you should be if you were born from civilian parents. Hundreds of years of chakra users for ancestors is going to do something, a three-year-old body gaining twenty years of 'experience' one of the key things for chakra is going to do... weird things, and even civilians have chakra systems, so naturally, they'd have some chakra too. If they didn't have chakra systems, you'd get zero civilian Shinobi.' Nodding her head content with her current theory, Hinote left the bathroom and wandered off to her kitchen before taking a seat.

'Makari-Oba....' Pausing she shaked her head. 'Not, it's Auntie Makari here. Weird, does that mean naming standards are Western?' Thinking on it for a moment, a cute tilt of her head showcased her confusion. 'No? It's clan name first here still. Pride maybe?' Letting out a huff she started to swing her legs to bleed off some excess energy while regaining her previous thought, 'AUNTIE Makari should be coming soon to bring me to wherever they'll be teaching us.' Fidgeting slightly in her seat, Hinote took deep calming breaths. 'Calm down. It's not like you're about to exercise for the first time in years, learn about ninja training or anything like that. Shit! Not helping.'

Distracting herself from the building anxiety yet also excitement, she surveyed her kitchen/living room. Although both were just as sparse as her bedroom, it was surprisingly high-tech considering it was at least twenty years until 'canon' started. 'The second war had just ended a bit over half of a year before my birth, which makes sense. End a war, have kids.' Taking in the rest of the living room, including the fact that there was a rather small yet thick TV that she knew wasn't yet in color. With a hum, she moved on over to the kitchen part which had a bit more to it. 'Stove, oven. Seems normal. Fridge. VERY large freezer... which probably has disturbing uses.' All across the walls, there was an assortment of cupboards - of which she knew some were filled, and others were locked off until she became older. 'I'd assume stocked with weapons or ninja... stuff? Unsure.'

Having observed everything she could see Hinote's gaze flickered towards the clock, only to sag in her seat. 'I really need to fix this. It's really hard to delay time or just live normally when you're viewing everything so much faster.' Moving over to the sink she gently turned it on, only to simply stare. 'This is beautiful though... It looks so fundamentally different when you view it like this.' In the night having flipped through her memories, she knew this was specifically a new problem and not an old problem. 'So either the 'collision' caused this - which it probably did enhance my 'spirit' and 'mind', but... it could have also caused some kind of activation of Chakra? How does that even work? I don't feel any weird energy flowing through me... do I?'

With closed eyes she focused as hard as she could internally looking for something akin to the blood she could feel pumping through her veins. 'I feel nothing. Well, when they showed off the Byagukan's vision of Naruto, wasn't there a mass in the stomach, so maybe try there?' Focused on her stomach, she found nothing new, felt nothing new. There was blood pumping through it, muscles contracting, and everything was normal. 'Wait - wait. What if it's NOT blood? I assumed it was blood because it flowed through my heart, but chakra does that too. That could make sense, but there's nothing I can really do about it. Trying to mess with that seems stupid, and I don't feel myself getting exhausted, and the 'blood' I'm feeling and hearing hasn't gone down or anything. If my Chakra WAS active, it should be right?'

It was a confounding question, but luckily... "Hiiiinnnottteeee! I hopppeee yoouu'rree upp chhilldd, yooouu haavveee a buussyyy daayy tooddaayy." The door to her house opened showing a middle-aged light brown-haired woman, with piercing blue eyes, a few scars across her face/hands, and subtly rippling muscles across her arms as she stepped in, her words slowed down and seemingly slurred. "Aahh! Woonnnddeerrrrfull deearr, exxccittedd foor yoourr trraiinniingg arree yoo-" The woman Hinote knew to be Auntie Makari paused, staring at Hinote who currently had her eyes scrunched, trying to piece together the words. "Oh my. Are you okay dear?" All of a sudden Auntie Mikari was in front of her, words seemingly normal now. 'When did she get there?!?' Not 100% sure about what was happening, Hinote nodded.

"I think so Auntie Mikari, things have been weird though. Everything is super slow, my brain is super fast, and everything feels so easy."

A subtle frown she wouldn't have caught if it weren't for her current state spread across Auntie Mikari's face. "I see, were you playing around or trying to use your chakra before going to bed child? I warned you about not doing that until you were taught how to safely create and use it."

Hinote hurriedly shook her head. "No! You telling me I'd explode was more than enough, I promise Auntie!"

Mikari hummed piercing blue eyes staring into her for a few moments before nodding. "I see, give me your hand child." Holding out her hand Hinote patiently waited as Mikari grasped it with one hand, before slowly placing her other hand on the wrist right where the veins were. 'I wonder what she's doing?'

Feeling absolutely nothing, Hinote sat there for a few moments before Mikari let out an inquisitive hum, slowly a green aura covering Hinote's wrist, and Mikari's hand. "Curious, your chakra isn't moving, so you haven't unlocked it, but your body has significantly changed, your chakra has increased, and...." Pausing her ramblings Auntie Mikari moved her hands up to Hinote's scalp. "This might tickle, but don't move okay?"

"Hn!"

With confirmation, Auntie Mikari's hands began to glow green away. 'Weirdddddd.' A tingling sensation flooded Hinote's brain, causing everything to go a little fuzzy. Sometime later, the hands left her scalp and clarity returned to her. "Am I okay Auntie?"

A smile spread across the aged woman's face. "Everything's alright dear. I don't quite know what happened to you, but what I want you to do is think really slowly okay? Spread out your thoughts as if you were going in slow motion likeeeee thisssssss. Okay?"

"I'll try Auntie." 'How curious, it's not chakra, so it must be a mutation caused by the merging of both of us? Well, let's trust the medic. Slowwwwwwwwwinnnnnnnnggggg downnnnnnnnn. Gooooooooo slowwwwwww keeeeeppppp goinggggggg slow. That's it keep going, huh?!?' There was a strange sensation as if her body froze for a second before all of a sudden her brain 'fogged' over. 'Oh, I don't like that. I don't like that at all.' "Auntie, what just happened? Everything feels foggy."

Aunt Mikari patted her on the head. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it. A Sarutobi is one who adapts to everything, and that includes you and your big super-brain! Now you'll be able to interact with everyone and play with kids normally. If you want to go fast again, just think about speeding up really hard, okay?"

"Okay!" Nodding her head Hinote tilted her head. "So, does this mean I can go to training today Auntie?"

Laughter bubbled up from the older woman. "Of course dear, the Elder will be waiting for you at the clan library in thirty minutes. Do you know the way?"

"Mhm! Out the door, go down the street left, and at the end of the road turn right. It's ALLL the way down past the park!"

"That's right. I have an errand to run, so why don't you get freshened up and head out?"

Squinting at Aunt Mikari for a few moments, Hinote finally nodded. "Alright, Auntie! See you tomorrow." Getting another pat on the head, Hinote bolted out of her seat and down the hallway into the bathroom. 'Definently hiding something, but while she was surprised at the changes, not seeing them? Or maybe it wasn't that she wasn't surprised at seeing them, more like she had seen it before? Weird, maybe my chakra 'imprint' theory was right? Or perhaps similar people have similar things? Mhm... maybe I'll figure it out one day, but not today!'

Taking the time to clean herself up, a little while later she came running out of the bathroom, down the hall, through her living room, and out of the house. 'Too the clan library! I wonder what I'll learn. It's just the first day, so it should just be going over the routine and the basics, or something, right?'

Racing through the clan compound that was silent at this time of the day, it only took Hinote a couple of minutes to arrive in front of the two-story wooden building that was the clan's library. 'Well, I bet it's only the less important one! There's no way this thing houses any forbidden Jutsu, summoning scrolls, or anything like that.' Taking a moment to catch her breath, Hinote straightened out her clothes before taking a step forward to open the door. 'Too Shinobi training!'

-15 Minutes later-

Hinote's head snapped to the side as the door to the library creaked open, and a moment later an elderly man in his 60s or 70s came walking in, although he looked old with his balding gray hair, his eyes as he entered the library were already trained on her, and each step was sturdy as he ambled forward, not a single noise was made from his steps, his clothes did not rustle, his sandals did not crease, and the pouches that where on his legs were eerily silent.

She stood up and bowed, yet kept her voice quiet bearing in mind this was a library, "Elder!" Two large scarred wrinkly, yet powerful hands grasped her shoulders before pulling her up to a standing position.

"None of that now girlie, I don't know what nonsense your family in the Yuhi clan have taught you, but we don't do that here... unless you're in trouble that is!" The Elder spoke in a loud booming voice, uncaring that he was in the library. "Now come on lass, outside of making sure the lazy bums in our clan keep in shape, I'll also be soon teaching you and eleven other young'uns, we've got a big batch this year, and most still are slacking from last year."

The man had strode forward after telling her to come on, weaving through the library with the grace of decades of memorization, and she had to rush to keep up with him, while at the same time memorizing all that he said. "Now, I don't know how much you know, but the training you're going to undergo is the most simple we can do. You learn to read, write, get into shape, unlock your chakra, and then learn how to mold chakra. In that order too! You've got a bit under a year to learn all of this if you wish to enroll at the academy at age four, if not we'll hold you back until you're six years old as is the Sarutobi way. Got all that lass?"

"Yes, Elder! Read, write, exercise, chakra unlock, molding chakra."

He paused turning around and gently shook his head. "Wrong lass! I said to get in shape, not exercise. Your first lesson is never to make assumptions and think of them as fact. Exercising is merely one part of getting into shape! We have to mold your mind so that it will be fit to learn at the academy, make sure you won't hurt yourself with Shuriken or Kunai, and also make sure you know the very basics of the Pygmy style!"

"Yes Elder, I'll remember that!"

"Good lass." He restarted his walk through the library, continuing to lecture. "If you manage to complete your lessons before the age of four, you will be given additional lessons, which will include quite literally everything you can take. But, remember lass, when you complete these lessons in the eyes of the clan you are truly a prospective Shinobi, there will be no more turning back."

"Hai Elder! I don't think I'm a good baker anyway." Even though Hinote could only see his back, she caught the slight twitch of his neck, which almost assuredly indicated a smile on his face.

"Shame child, everyone loves a baker." With that, he stopped all of a sudden, and his hand snapped out grabbing a small, but thick white book. "This here is what's known as a picture book. Below each of the pictures will be a letter, and the deeper you go into the book those letters will turn into words, then sentences. Every day someone will come to your home to answer any questions, and to teach you. Any questions?"

"You said when mentioning my training that it was 'in that order'. Does that mean I need to learn reading and writing before getting into shape?"

His lips visibly twitched upwards, his thumb rubbing the book as he nodded towards her, obvious delight in his brown eyes. "You're a smart one. Your parents were smart ones too..." His eyes trailed off, a flash of misery that she herself mirrored. 'He probably taught dad.' The Elder shook away his sadness and focused in on her. "Your old pops didn't realize that until he came rushing up to me complaining, hah! You're right kid, why do you think that is?"

Hinote's eyes brows scrunched together as she thought about it for a few moments, before finally saying, "Each of the steps seems to lead into one another so learning to read and write should not only be necessary to 'get into shape', but more likely learning how too learn?" 'It's a simple deduction... but not for a three-year-old.'

"Good lass, you're missing some details such as it also helping in your future Chakra lessons, but you'll come to understand that in time." 'Chakra is made up of the energy gained from your cells, and your 'experiences'. Experiences including things you've experienced - obviously, what you've learned, and what you've trained... How that training part is different from the energy you gain from your cells, who knows? So, they want to bolster everything in a holistic way before unlocking Chakra, perhaps for safety reasons? After all, if your muscles are too weak to lift something, you'll hurt yourself, and thus it should be the same for 'unlocking' your Chakra.'

The Elder's thumb started to rub the book again as he chuckled. "I don't know what you're thinking, but I can tell you're thinking. Care to share your thoughts?" 'Darn ninja! How did he know? Maybe eyes twitching while thinking?'

"Uh, does learning have anything to do with Chakra? Because everyone is taught to learn how to learn before using it, it makes sense if Chakra has something to do with... knowledge?"

A chuckle escaped the Elder. "You are a smart one, only a few brats have figured out so much in our first lesson these past fifty years. You're right. While it's a bit early for you to learn too much about chakra, just know that your training, be it physical, Taijutsu moves, Ninjutsu, or whatever else you have impacts your chakra, but so does your knowledge, lifestyle, and things you've seen in this world." He winked, "It's why us elderly still have so much chakra! Our bodies may be failing, but we're only growing more and more knowledgable, and experiencing the joy of the younger generation growing up and surpassing us!"

Hinote knew her eyes were sparkling at the dump of information, but she didn't care! Any info on Chakra and Ninjas was amazing! The Elder shook his head an amused smile on his face. "Aah, it's always a joyful day when the clan has a young one that seeks knowledge." He paused, thumb still rubbing the book. "Well, it's about time for my next meeting, so why don't you take this book here and head about your day? The next time we meet will be when those new teachers of you think you're ready for the next step."

With a nod of her head, she stepped forward and cradled the book in both her hands. "I'll make sure to not damage the book, Elder!"

"That's a good girl, now run off. Someone as young as you shouldn't be spending too much time near these dusty shelves."

"Thank you Elder, bye Elder!" That said she walked off, a book bit too big for her in her arms.

-Elder-

With squinted eyes, he watched the youngling practically skip away, a blank look on his face. "You were right Makari. She noticed my thumb movements, and I could tell she kept her brain suppressed, yet it was far smarter than her parent's reports or medical chart would have shared."

Stepping out of the shadows the lass formerly from the Yamanaka clan nodded her head. "Hai Sensei. I found a few medical charts similar to hers, but they were from birth, not all of a sudden like Hinote's."

He raised an eyebrow, but he already had a suspicion, one that was clearly confirmed by Makari's next words. "Lord 19th and Lord 21st shared similar charts, the Hatake clan has been known too, the same as the Uchiha, and Senju."

At that he kept his face blank, making sure to keep both the joy and agony off his face. 'Poor lass... good for the clan and Konoha, but poor lass.'  He of course knew who the 19th and 21st Clan Heads of the Sarutobi clan were, both far superior to himself. 'The mark of a Genius. I'm sure that young monkey Hiruzen will be delighted, after all the war could start up again at any moment. Especially if the news about that White Fang brat's child is true, he'll enjoy two more of his little monsters.'

Snapping out of his thoughts he stared down at Makari. "You're to tell no one apart from the clan head, and the only medic to see her until she graduates is to be Biwako."

"Yes Sensei."

-Hinote-

Stepping into her house with the white book in hand, she looked down confused at what she was witnessing. The book in her hand changed from a white cover to a green one, then a purple one, only to finally land on a red covering. 'What?' Opening up the book, she blinked at the picture of an 'A' with underneath it the entire English alphabet with the 'A' bolded and underlined. 'This... seems like what I was told? But something must have changed. It's weird though the color shift, why be so blatant about it? 3 colors? Why 3 different colors past white, why?' Eyes fogging over, she stared at the ceiling, her thoughts rapidly speeding up, and then - for a brief second her mind froze.

Time, seemingly slowed down. Hinote's eyes sharpened as her mind rapidly sped up, her body processing all stimuli multiple times faster as her eyes started to twitch and dart about, the only sign of her thoughts going at speeds significantly faster than before. 'The number of turns we took in the library? No. Way more than that. It's not correlated to the number of times he explained something, that was more than 3. The training plan? No, there would be no need to make a sign out of that, it would be a useless distraction. Then what...?'

Her eyes widened. 'I see! He praised me thrice, and he rubbed his thumb on the book thrice! Then in that case, the first meeting is individual so he can focus on each student, giving them knowledge or 'levels' of this book, based upon how they impress him. But, what's the purpose of that? This should all be basic information, unless... Aah, I see! At least, I think I do. If each level unlocks more information, then the amount you have to learn increases, thus making it more unlikely for someone to pass the 4-year mark. It stands to reason then, that those who don't pass the four-year mark will in fact also get the books 'levels' unlocked?'

A small grin made its way across her face. 'If that's true... then I wonder what more info I'll get. After all, I already know how to read and write English, and whatever Japanese slips into this I'll obviously know as well.' Walking towards the counter to set the book to begin her studying, Hinote froze. 'But, the obvious change in itself is a trap, is it not? After all, if you know that the next step is preparing the body and mind, and the book in itself is a guide towards one part of the next step of training, doesn't it stand to reason that there should also be a physical component?'

Her vibrant red eyes practically glowed in glee. 'Ooh! I love tricks and tests like this. More than likely past the 'white cover' part of this book will have some physical activities to help you 'learn' words and activities - but in reality, you're supposed to not just learn them, but also use them. At least that's how I would do it if I wanted to teach my genius students a lesson... I used something similar on Imouto before actually. Of course, I could be overthinking this - after all, this is training meant for a 3-year-old.' Pausing at that last part and rolling it around her head, she tentatively denied it. 'Unlikely. In canon, my generation and those surrounding me entered at age 4, and Kakashi graduated at age 5. Then it stands to reason that it would be perfectly acceptable in a clan that has had a Hokage famed for his knowledge, on top of it's said he inherited his talent from his father - to have a 'trap' like this one.'

Happy with her tentative, but relatively sure conclusions, she thudded the book onto the counter. 'Then let's get cracking!' Hopping up onto the chair, she carefully studied the 'A' making sure there was nothing hidden, before flipping on to the next page. 'Study slowly and with as much attention to detail for an hour or two, then I can go to the park to play and exercise. Maybe I can figure out how much control and dexterity I keep when my brain is slowed down then.'

With the plan laid out, she got down to the oh-so thrilling study of the letter 'A', with the next page having an apple, and the letter A once more highlighted and bolded in the text below the apple. 'Interesting, that's one way to teach literacy I suppose.'

Idk how this chapter got so huge, but it is. If you spot any mistakes - remember I have no beta, and just kindly point them out for me to fix.

Also any 'cheats' if she'll get them are completely undecided, although I do have the rough outline of how Hinote is going to fight laid out, you might know from the cover! No monkey summons this fic, at least I'm not planning on it.

Any ideas/plot points feel free to tell them! Any confusion, ask away as well!
