Chapter 117: Suitcase and Pencil Case
When Wade was still four or five centimeters away from the chicks, he suddenly felt a slight tingling sensation in his fingers. At the same time, he saw Rolf's hair stand on end, like a porcupine's quills.
Wade understood instantly that Rolf must have felt the same way.
Rolf laughed silently, then pulled Wade's arm, and the two of them snuck away from the stone pillar like thieves.
Turning left and right, they arrived at a warm and humid bamboo forest. It was then that Rolf burst out laughing.
"Amazing, isn't it? Thunderbird chicks are born with electricity."
Rolf dipped his palms in the water on the bamboo leaves while laughing and combed his messy hair neatly.
Wade drew out his wand: "Aguamenti."
A stream of water flowed down the bamboo branches, and Rolf immediately gave a thumbs up!
The two of them used the clear water to fix their hair. Wade suddenly saw a dung beetle bigger than a Crup pushing an equally huge dung ball, slowly walking behind them.
Newt's suitcase space was even more magical than Graling Farm. A short walk here made you feel like you'd entered a new world.
Turning a corner, the bamboo forest transformed into a tropical grassland; after a while, they found themselves in a rainforest.
There was only a curtain between the icy landscape and the vibrant, flowering garden; on either side of a boulder, there were sand dunes and water pools.
A small cave in the distance expanded rapidly upon entry, soon becoming a vast stone cavern;
An ordinary oak door opened to reveal distant mountains and endless lakes.
Moreover, Newt also kept many dangerous creatures rated 4X or even 5X. In his presence, these terrifying creatures behaved like well-mannered children, lowering their heads to enjoy his touch.
Even Rolf could play with or feed these creatures at will, without fear of being harmed.
"I love them so much," Rolf said with puffed cheeks, "But grandpa always says they can't be left in such a small space."
"So although he always rescues magical creatures in distress, he returns them to their original habitats once they can survive independently."
"It would be great if animals could also use the Friend Book... that way, even if we part ways, we wouldn't lose contact."
As he said this, he cradled a young Rem cow in his arms. The two of them looked at Wade with pitiful eyes full of hope.
Wade couldn't help but laugh: "Even if I could let animals use the Friend Book, they can't read!"
Rolf's expression suddenly fell, and he sighed sadly: "Oh, I knew it wouldn't work... Is there no way to communicate without writing?"
"Yes," Wade sat next to him and said, "Can't a two-way mirror do it?"
"But two-way mirrors are rare and too expensive," Rolf said dejectedly. "I have many friends, but too little pocket money."
Wade couldn't help but laugh again.
The little boy, with his round head, looked very cute. When he made this sad, adult-like expression, he looked even funnier.
As he laughed, an idea struck him.
Two-way mirror... seems like a good research direction...
...
After a tour, Wade found an opportunity to ask Newt about the application of the Extension Charm.
Newt had devoted his life to protecting magical creatures, and his enchanted suitcase had played a crucial role in this regard. In the application of the Extension Charm, Wade suspected that even Dumbledore was not as skilled as Newt.
He was undoubtedly a world-class master in this regard.
Wade also showed Newt his pencil case, which gradually unfolded layer by layer, eventually becoming a tall wardrobe.
Seeing the wardrobe that stood taller than a person, Newt was stunned for a long time. Then he muttered, "Yes, the wardrobe is so convenient..."
He hadn't thought so when he was young, but now that he was older, climbing up and down the stairs inside the suitcase every day was a significant test for his bones.
Newt and Wade walked into the closet space, took a look around, and Newt said approvingly, "What a great application... I didn't expect a twelve-year-old wizard to achieve this..."
"But that's all, it's just an ordinary storage space."
Wade frowned and said, "It doesn't seem to be like your suitcase, which feels like many spaces spliced together, harmonious without any conflict or weirdness."
Talking about his expertise, Newt became visibly confident. He smiled and said, "Space splicing... that's a fitting description."
"In my suitcase, there are indeed many real spaces spliced together."
"Real spaces?" Wade asked, pondering. "Is it similar to folding space and then unfolding it inside the suitcase?"
"It's not that complicated."
Newt held his palms together in thought for a while before saying:
"You know, for magical animals, the most dangerous creatures on this planet are the billions of humans."
"Humans have transformed more and more natural environments into cities of steel and concrete, leaving fewer and fewer habitats suitable for animals."
"To provide a suitable habitat for these creatures, I used the Division Charm to separate an area before the local environment was destroyed by Muggles. Then, with the Shrinking Charm and the Expansion Charm, I completed the transfer..."
He said it simply, but Wade realized how challenging it was... almost as high as a skyscraper.
To give a simple example—
Before the Christmas break, Wade had seen the senior students get a tall spruce and prepare to decorate it into the school's tallest Christmas tree.
While Hagrid could carry the spruce by himself, the students needed five or six people to use the Levitation Charm simultaneously to move it to a suitable position.
And what about Newt?
He even had snowy mountains in his suitcase!
Newt continued, "Sometimes there's no need to go to such trouble. You can use a Space Connection Spell to link a part of the box with the outside space, allowing communication between the two."
"Have you seen that lake? It connects to Loch Ness in Scotland at the bottom, letting the Kelpie travel between both sides."
"However, there's a risk of invasion. You must be very cautious when choosing a connection space."
"In this case, how can we ensure the stability of the space in the suitcase?" Wade asked. "I heard that if the spell fails, the objects inside may burst the container. But I don't think you worry about this problem."
"Well, that's just a little bit of my personal skill."
Newt showed a slightly proud smile: "While traveling, I learned how to separate spaces from magical animals..."
