Capítulo 43: RECOVERING

I didn’t go to school the next day, or the day after that, but I was slowly getting better. As for "You Don’t Know Me?' The book was only getting more interesting with each passing chapter.

My recovery was steady; the swelling around my eye had gone down, though the bruise was now a mix of purples and reds. But I was starting to see my handsome self again in the mirror, and it felt good.

Five days passed, and one morning, as I sat in bed, eating pancakes with maple syrup and flipping through You Don’t Know Me, I heard a knock at my door.

My mom.

I was a little surprised she actually knocked for once. She stepped in, grinning like she was hiding something.

Then, out of nowhere, she said, “Ta-da!”

Fiona came in behind her, and to my surprise, I smiled. Maybe it was the fact that I hadn’t seen her in days, or maybe it was how she looked today, but I was genuinely happy to see her.
