23.8% Progenitor: The First Vampire / Chapter 5: Transformation

Capítulo 5: Transformation

The next morning, Kai woke up early, the events of the previous day still vivid in his mind. He glanced at his sleeping sister, Hanabi, who looked peaceful and content. He quietly got out of bed, careful not to wake her, and began preparing for the day ahead.

As the aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, Hanabi stirred and eventually woke up, rubbing her eyes sleepily.

"Good morning, brother," she greeted with a yawn.

"Good morning, Hanabi," Kai replied with a smile. "I made your favorite, pancakes."

Hanabi's eyes lit up with excitement. "Yay! Pancakes!"

They sat down to eat together, and Kai couldn't help but feel a sense of normalcy despite everything that had happened yesterday. As they ate, he thought about the preparations he needed to make for his transformation.

"Do you have everything you need for school?" Kai asked between bites.

"Yes, I packed my bag before we went to the park," Hanabi replied proudly.

"Good girl," Kai said, patting her head affectionately.

After breakfast, Kai helped Hanabi get ready for school. He braided her hair and made sure her uniform was neat and tidy. "Are you excited for school today?" he asked.

Hanabi nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! We have an art class today. I'm going to draw a picture of us."

Kai's heart warmed at her words. "That sounds wonderful. I'm sure it'll be a great drawing."

Once Hanabi was ready, Kai walked her to school. The journey was filled with Hanabi's cheerful chatter, and Kai found himself momentarily distracted from the weight of his responsibilities. When they reached the school gates, Hanabi hugged him tightly.

"See you later, brother!" she said, waving as she ran inside.

"See you later, Hanabi," Kai replied, waving back. As he watched her disappear into the building, his resolve hardened. He had to be strong for her.

He went to see the teacher, who was also the owner of the storage room, and asked her to stay with Hanabi after school because he would be coming late to pick her up. The teacher, Mrs. Kimura, was a kind woman with a gentle smile.

"Of course, Kai. I'll make sure to look after Hanabi while we wait for you," she assured him.

"Thank you, Mrs. Kimura," Kai said, relieved. "I appreciate it."

Kai checked the list of supplies he needed that he wrote earlier: food, water, medical supplies, and anything else that might help during his recovery.

Kai's next stop was a nearby pharmacy, conveniently located near his sister's school. The fluorescent lights inside were harsh and clinical, contrasting sharply with the warm summer day outside.

He moved quickly through the aisles, grabbing bandages, antiseptic, painkillers, and a few other first-aid essentials. The pharmacist, a middle-aged woman with glasses perched on the end of her nose, gave him a professional yet curious glance as she rang up his purchases.

"Planning a camping trip?" she asked, trying to make small talk.

"Something like that," Kai replied with a tight smile, avoiding eye contact.

With the medical supplies secured, he headed to a convenience store next door. The air conditioning hit him like a wall as he stepped inside, and he took a moment to let the coolness wash over him.

He walked the aisles with purpose, picking up high-energy snacks, bottled water, and a few ready-to-eat meals. He also grabbed a couple of energy drinks, anticipating the exhaustion that might follow the transformation.

As he approached the checkout, the cashier, a young woman with brightly colored hair and a bored expression, began scanning his items. "Stocking up for a long night?" she asked, half-jokingly.

Kai nodded, his mind already elsewhere. "Yeah, something like that."

She handed him his bags, and he thanked her before heading out. The sun was starting to set, casting a warm orange glow over the town. Kai glanced at his watch, realizing that time was slipping away faster than he had anticipated. He then checked his bank account and sighed when he saw the balance: just over $500 left.

With his bags in hand and his mind set, he made his way to the old warehouse he knew. As he walked, he mentally reviewed his checklist, ensuring he hadn't forgotten anything. His supplies were gathered, and now, all that remained was to find a place where he could transform.

He remembered an old warehouse on the outskirts of town, a place he had seen from his future knowledge. It was a perfect spot, often used by shady characters for illegal activities, but now abandoned. The so-called protagonist had once been ambushed there while on a mission for the academy. It was secluded, large enough for him to undergo the transformation without interruptions, and far enough from any prying eyes.

"Yes, that warehouse would be a perfect place to transform," Kai thought, feeling a sense of relief. It was a location he was familiar with from his writing, and he could anticipate any potential dangers or disruptions.

As the afternoon approached, Kai took a deep breath and headed to the warehouse. It was a long walk, giving him plenty of time to mentally prepare for the transformation. The building loomed ahead, its windows broken and walls covered in graffiti. Kai pushed open the rusted door and stepped inside, the interior dim and silent.

"This is it," he muttered to himself, setting his backpack down in a corner. He spread out a blanket on the floor and laid out the food and medical supplies within easy reach. "No turning back now."

Knowing the transformation would cause pain, he took five painkiller pills at once. He then found three mice running around the area and cut them open, using their blood to draw a circle with complicated runic symbols that the system had shown him. After that, he placed candles around the circle. He activated the system and selected the option for the Vampire Progenitor transformation.

Kai took a deep breath and confirmed his choice. Instantly, a searing pain shot through his body, causing him to collapse to the ground. Every nerve felt like it was on fire, his muscles spasming uncontrollably. He clenched his teeth, trying to suppress the screams that threatened to escape.

Outside, the sky darkened unnaturally, heavy clouds swirling as if heralding the birth of something formidable. A powerful atmosphere settled over the area, oppressive and foreboding. Those attuned to the supernatural felt a tug, an unsettling sensation creeping over them.

Inside the warehouse, Kai's transformation was in full swing. The pain intensified, radiating from his core to every extremity. His vision blurred, his mind struggling to stay conscious. He focused on Hanabi's face, her bright smile giving him the strength to endure.

"AAAGGHHH!!" Kai's screams echoed through the empty warehouse, his body writhing on the floor. Blood seeped from his pores, pooling around him as his flesh began to tear and reform. His muscles twisted, bones snapping and realigning. His skin burned, blistering and then regenerating in a grotesque cycle.

The windows of the warehouse shattered as the energy radiated from Kai, the very air around him vibrating with raw power. Outside, the wind howled, and lightning crackled across the sky.

"NOOO!!" Kai's shout was primal, filled with both agony and determination. His transformation reached its zenith, his body convulsing violently. Every fiber of his being was being torn apart and reconstituted.

All the powerful beings around the world felt a disturbance, a shift in the balance.

In a faraway place, a woman suddenly awakened from her slumber, her eyes turning a ghostly white. Her voice echoed with an otherworldly resonance, as if she was channeling a force beyond herself. She spoke, her tone both ominous and mesmerizing:

"Under the light of the full moon, a new entity is about to be born. This being carries the potential to either bring unparalleled harmony or unleash catastrophic destruction upon the world. Will it become a beacon of hope, forging alliances and mending the fabric of existence? Or will it emerge as a harbinger of chaos, tearing apart the very foundations of life?"

The prophecy hung in the air, laden with the weight of its implications. The woman's eyes slowly returned to their natural state, and she fell back into a deep sleep, her breathing even and calm as if she had never spoken.
