Capítulo 20: New Technique
It had been seven days since Yami got his hands on the healing Jutsu. Despite his high chakra control, he still struggled and took some time to learn it. But he'd done it; he'd mastered the jutsu and improved his physical stats in the process.
At first, he practiced the Jutsu on a dying fish, trying to save it. After he succeeded, he started using the Jutsu after his physical training routine to heal his muscles and train even more, which boosted his stats further. Now, with his mastery over the mystical palm technique, he could even heal a cut in his palm.
After completing his daily training, Yami sat under the tree shade, contemplating his next move.
"The war should break out anytime now."
A few ninjas were sent to the Fire Nation borders to stop a potential invasion. But because no village had yet made the first move, the world seemed to stand still, waiting for that spark that would ignite the war.
"Perhaps Sasori has already killed the Third Kazekage."
Once the disappearance of the Third Kazekage became known, the Wind Village blamed Konoha and declared war, followed by the other villages as well. At that time, Yami would surely be deployed and sent to the battlefield.
Yami wasn't afraid to go to war; with his stealth ability, he could hide from the enemies, assassinate them, or just run away. But his previous fight made him more cautious, fearing that his ability might be exposed by the enemy.
That was why he was looking for a way to delay his deployment as much as possible. If he remembered correctly, the Third Ninja War lasted for three years, which meant he was bound to be sent to the battlefield at some point.
"I guess it's time for me to go to the hospital and show them my medical talent."
By showing that he mastered the mystical palm technique, he could secure himself a job in the hospital and avoid being sent to the battlefield due to the rarity of medical ninjas.
Of course, there was still a chance he would be assigned to the battlefield because of his medical abilities, but Yami was willing to take the risk. At least if he was sent to the battlefield as a medical ninja, he would stay at the camp to heal the injured and not directly participate in the war.
Some might call this act cowardly, but Yami begged to differ. Why should he risk his life to get directly involved in the war and kill other ninjas if it had no apparent benefits for him?
Going around and killing people wouldn't make him any stronger. Instead, it would only stress him out, always alert and suspicious of everyone around him for fear of being betrayed. He'd rather work in a safe environment as a medic instead of going through all of that.
Yami stood up, dusting off his clothes. His decision was made; he would head to the hospital immediately. The sooner he demonstrated his abilities, the better his chances of avoiding the front lines.
"But before that, let me try this new trick and see if I succeed this time."
Yami closed his eyes and concentrated on his spiritual energy, attempting to spread it to the environment around him. Ever since he came up with the idea to steal fragments of Bijuu souls and become a semi-Jinchūriki, he had been training and experimenting with his Kekkei Genkai.
Currently, he could only animate objects for brief periods. Because he was infusing his spiritual energy instead of his soul, the animation would only last a short while. Yami concluded that to achieve permanent animation, he needed to infuse a soul into objects. But it was easier said than done, as he had no idea how to split part of his soul. He couldn't take from others, as he had tried before.
What he lacked was a basic understanding of the soul and how to use it. There were only a few secret techniques in Konoha related to the soul. The ones Yami remembered were the Yamanaka mind techniques and Kato Dan's Spirit Transformation Technique.
But acquiring these techniques was unrealistic, as they were clan secrets, at least not through normal means.
The only other option left to him was to contact Orochimaru, as he might be the person who studied souls the most due to his pursuit of immortality. Despite sounding like a good plan, Yami wasn't delusional. Partnering with Orochimaru would certainly bring him many rewards, but it also came with its risks. Ignoring the fact that Orochimaru might capture him and use him as an experimental subject due to his weakness, there was also the fact that not long after the Third Ninja War ended, Orochimaru defected from Konoha, and his experiments were known to the Hokage.
If Yami involved himself with Orochimaru, he was bound to do his own experiments as well. And he might eventually get found out and linked with Orochimaru.
Even though Yami didn't care if he was labeled a traitor, that came with the condition of being strong enough to defend himself.
Anyway, since he couldn't infuse soul power into objects, Yami could only use spiritual energy as an alternative. Currently, he closed his eyes and spread his spiritual energy around him. This wasn't difficult for him, as he used to do the same with his soul perception ability. But what he was about to do next was more challenging.
Usually, he would touch an object and infuse it with spiritual energy to animate it. But now, he was trying to do the same without making contact with the object.
He concentrated, feeling the flow of spiritual energy around him. Slowly, he directed it toward a small flower nearby. Sweat formed on his forehead as he strained to direct his spiritual energy. The further the distance from the object, the more energy he wasted. But he didn't stop and continued to infuse a massive amount of spiritual energy into the flower.
The flower trembled slightly, then facial features started to appear on it—a small mouth and wide-open eyes. The flower swayed side to side as if it were greeting Yami, but he knew it had no high intelligence and was only acting on instinct.
After a while, from cutting his spiritual energy supply, the face on the flower disappeared.
Yami panted as a terrible headache assaulted him due to his exhausted spiritual energy, but he didn't care and had a smile on his face. It was a small success, but a success nonetheless. He had managed to animate the flower without physical contact, a step closer to mastering his Kekkei Genkai.
With this, he could elevate his combat style and use many tricks to surprise his enemies. For example, if he were fighting in a forest, by animating the trees, he could distract his enemies by making roots grab their legs before he delivered a killing attack.
There were many uses he could find for this new trick, and now it was up to him to lower the cost of the required spiritual energy for such a technique.
"Good enough for now," he muttered to himself. "I need to keep improving, but I can't waste any more time here."
Without wasting time, he headed straight toward the hospital.
