"Another gift pack?"
Fang Ye beamed with joy, much happier than gaining overseas fans!
It felt like a long time since the last mystery gift pack.
The last one was before the Chinese New Year, which gave them a few capybaras. Now, they serve as the zoo's friendly ambassadors, playing with other animals in various exhibits.
Ring-tailed lemurs, pelicans, and various parrots all find joy in interacting with the capybaras.
He wondered what this gift pack would bring?
He mentally commanded, "Open!"
The notification sound chimed.
"Congratulations, you have received 200,000 Green Leaf Coins!"
"Congratulations, you have received 8 roe deer!"
Green Leaf Coins were always needed, as manual construction was too slow compared to the system's construction team.
Moreover, the system's construction team worked with minimal noise, causing no disturbance to the animals. Otherwise, nearby construction would make the animals anxious and reduce their playfulness, let alone adapting to new environments or mating and having offspring.
Many animals, including red pandas, conceived and gave birth during their first estrus at the zoo, thanks to the keepers' meticulous care and the system's construction team.
In some zoos, animals take five or six years to adapt to their environment before they start breeding.
Each exhibit's daily tasks earn 50 Green Leaf Coins. With the increasing number of exhibits, the accumulation of Green Leaf Coins has sped up, now bringing in thousands daily, totaling around 30,000 a month.
Even with normal operations, they could gradually build new exhibits, but an unexpected windfall always made Fang Ye happy.
The megafauna area currently only had hippos, elephants, and giraffes, which was quite monotonous. The next phase could involve building a rhino exhibit and introducing a couple of rhinos.
And a butterfly house!
During World Bee Day, they educated visitors about the importance of pollinating insects like bees, receiving positive feedback.
Fang Ye was considering creating a permanent exhibit.
Besides star animals, these insects were also very important.
However, bees were too plain-looking. Although mentioning honey made people's mouths water, bees themselves were often overlooked.
Butterflies, on the other hand, were a great entry point! They were the flagship species among insects.
In the butterfly house, the vibrant reds, enchanting blues, and dazzling greens would shimmer in the sunlight. Butterflies would flutter gracefully among the intoxicating floral scents, creating a colorful dreamlike scene.
Just thinking about it was beautiful.
As for the system's reward of roe deer, they were also interesting animals.
Roe deer, commonly known as "silly roe deer," were endearingly foolish.
Legend has it that when encountering humans, they wouldn't immediately run away but would freeze for a moment before fleeing, as if their reaction was a bit slow.
If you called out to them, they might even stop and look back, pausing every few steps to glance behind, or even burying their heads in the snow, thinking they were hidden.
In people's minds, they were adorably dumb animals.
Interestingly, when startled, their tail fur would fluff up into a heart shape, signaling to their peers and confusing predators. This distinctive rump was even printed on the zoo's restrooms.
Fang Ye thought that once the roe deer arrived, they could be placed in the mixed exhibit.
The red foxes had been moved to the native species exhibit. The blue sheep didn't quite fit in the Forest Spirits exhibit, which was a temporary measure during the zoo's development.
Now, with the plateau exhibit, the blue sheep would be better suited there with the Pallas's cats and vultures.
They could create a mountainous cliff environment for the blue sheep. The mixed exhibit's original rocks wouldn't need to be removed; they could add green vegetation, wildflowers, and moss, with a waterfall flowing down, creating a forest scene.
Sika deer and roe deer would be a perfect match in the mixed exhibit. Both species have similar appearances and can be found in the forests of Northeast China.
"Honey, look at this!"
Lan Li rubbed her head against his chest.
Fang Ye, who was deep in thought about the zoo's future construction, snapped back to reality when he heard Lan Li calling him. "What's up?"
He glanced at the comments on Weibo and couldn't help but laugh.
Linhai Zoo's latest Weibo post showcased some photos of the penguin exhibit.
Among the comments, aside from those congratulating them on being recognized abroad and praising the environment, there were some inexplicable criticisms.
"What a trash zoo!"
The zoo's staff replied, "Dear, why do you say that? Our exhibits are all designed based on the animals' natural habits. You see, these penguins are having a great time in the water."
"In Japan's Hokkaido zoos, penguins can stay outside in the winter because of the climate. But with the scorching sun in the south, it's too harmful for the penguins. Please treat them kindly."
"They have Emperor Penguins over there, but our penguins are African Penguins, which live in Africa. Their habitats are different 😜. Plus, we have cooling measures like misting systems!"
Lan Li covered her mouth and laughed, "This is so awkward."
Fang Ye shook his head, "Any constructive criticism is welcome. If it's valid, we'll humbly accept it and improve. Visitors' opinions are our motivation to progress.
But comments like this, where they haven't done their homework and yet speak with such certainty, are indeed quite embarrassing."
The netizen had commented when the Weibo post was first published. If they saw the later comments from people reporting back from abroad and praising the zoo, they might think twice before typing.
Lan Li continued scrolling, "Oh, they've translated some of the Twitter comments here! 'Director Fang is so handsome, I declare him my idol from today'... You have so many new fangirls!"
Fang Ye gently stroked her smooth hair and said warmly, "What, are you jealous?"
Lan Li hugged Fang Ye, feeling the warmth of his embrace, and smiled sweetly, "Just a little bit! But they can only like you online, while I can hold you, hehe."
Fang Ye rubbed his chin, "Speaking of which, when are we getting married?"
They had been dating for quite some time, and their personalities and interests matched well. They knew each other inside out.
Lan Li could cook, and she was good at it. For modern young people used to ordering takeout, this was a rare skill.
Cooking together had a unique charm that takeout couldn't match. Any small disagreements or friction in daily life would naturally dissolve in the process of exploring recipes, cooking, and enjoying meals together. Because meals carried emotions.
Lan Li blinked her eyes and suddenly jumped up, her face turning red, "Eh~~~"
She stammered, "Is... is this a proposal?"
