Capítulo 29: Chapter 28 - Sacrifice Ritual (Part 2)

Daemom had no idea that the plan he and Amara had orchestrated had spiraled completely out of control. At that moment, he was sitting on the edge of a tall building at night. His hair moved with the cold night wind as he admired the night view of Portland. Amara was behind him, her body pressed against his as she rested her chin on his shoulder.

"They're more patient than I thought," Daemom commented, sensing that the four marked points remained untouched.

"Demons are ancient. After shedding their most basic instincts, they became especially cunning. Never underestimate a demon, Dae. We are the most cunning, cruel, and deceitful beings in the known universe." Kissing Daemom's cheek tenderly, Amara responded with her sweet and charming voice.

"Should I also be wary of you?" Daemom asked with a playful tone, smiling.

"Yes, after all, I might just seduce you~" Amara replied, flashing the same smile, her tone equally mysterious with a hint of amusement.

She shifted her position, sitting on Daemom's lap, finding the most comfortable spot as she leaned back against his chest, unfazed by the height they were at.

Holding her waist to prevent her from falling from fifty stories up, Daemom rested his chin on her head, gazing out at the bustling city with a calm expression.

A comfortable silence hung between them.

Suddenly, both Daemom and Amara turned their gazes simultaneously to the north, where one of the four ambush sites was located.

Amara's eyes widened in pure horror, while Daemom's expression remained cold and indifferent.

In his eyes, a blood-red light glowed in the darkness like a fiercely burning red sun.

"They're insane! How dare they perform a Sacrificial Ritual in the human world!" Amara muttered to herself, still in disbelief at what her senses were telling her.

Although Daemom didn't know exactly what a Sacrificial Ritual entailed, the name alone gave him a rough idea.

"What is the purpose of the Sacrificial Ritual?" Daemom asked, a serious look on his face.

"It can be used for two things. One, to tear a hole in the Veil, allowing the infernal legions to arrive. The second is to allow a prince or a duke of Hell to send their power into the human world," Amara replied, her teeth clenched tightly.

She blamed herself a little at that moment, never really believing that Belial would dare to perform a Sacrificial Ritual in the middle of a major city like Portland.

Performing a ritual of this magnitude is no different from starting a war between the two factions—something even Belial can't risk, as he isn't strong enough. With the Civil War raging in Hell right now, going to war against Heaven is akin to inviting a one-sided massacre.

As she pondered something, a smile returned to Amara's face, but it quickly vanished when she saw the look on Daemom's face.

She didn't really care about what happened to the people sacrificed in the Ritual, but she knew Daemom felt differently.

The daughter of Lilith was aware that Daemom had a human mentality. Killing demons was one thing; letting hundreds of innocent lives perish because of the consequences of his actions was something entirely different.

She wasn't sure what choice Daemom would make when faced with such a cruel decision in his eyes.

"Daemom." Looking into his eyes, Amara spoke in a soft yet gentle tone. "We have two options. The first is the most advantageous and will save us a lot of trouble. The second option, on the other hand, will probably lead to everything spiraling out of control."

Daemom's expression changed at Amara's words, but he remained calm and spoke quietly. "I'm listening."

Taking a deep breath, Amara began to speak, her voice tinged with a near-pleading tone. "The first option is to allow the ritual to take place. The Angelic Legion will be sent regardless, and they'll cleanse the entire city of demonic beings. We can leave the city during the process and avoid getting caught up in the purge."

"The second option is to stop the ritual from being completed and fight anything that gets in our way, but the chances of everything spiraling out of control are extremely high."

When Amara finished speaking, she looked at Daemom with a determined gaze. Although she preferred the first option, she was still ready to fight by Daemom's side.

"How many lives are we talking about?" Daemom asked after a moment of silence.

"Given the amount of energy being accumulated at the altar, around a hundred or more," Amara replied without any hesitation.

Upon hearing this, the arm wrapped around Amara's waist tightened with an inhuman strength.

If Amara were a normal human, this grip would have killed her instantly. Fortunately for both of them, Amara wasn't human, and her body was much stronger than any human's.

Amara felt the intense pressure around her waist and simply held Daemom's hand, signaling that she would stand by him no matter the situation.

Daemom closed his eyes, and for some reason, his father's voice echoed in his mind once again.

"Don't hesitate. Kill anything that stands in your way. Use the pride, anger, and fury hidden in your heart to become a tyrant, a tyrant commanding all of my legions."

Slowly opening his eyes, Daemom revealed his blue irises, now tinged with a shade of red. His short hair fluttered in the cold night wind.

"Sorry, Amara." He looked at his partner and gave her an apologetic gaze.

He didn't need to speak for Amara to understand which option he had chosen.

"It doesn't matter. I said we would walk this path together. I'm also tired of being hunted like an animal in danger. How dare a mere mid-level demon hunt me, the daughter of Lilith! I'll dismember every limb of those stupid demons." She spoke, clenching her fist while smiling widely, her tiger-like teeth protruding.

Her animated voice made the weight on Daemom's shoulders feel much lighter than it originally was.

Daemom looked at Amara in surprise and smiled gently. He held her face in his hands and kissed her lips with a gentle, lingering touch full of tenderness.

"Thank you, my beautiful princess," he whispered, his voice slightly hoarse and filled with a murderous intent.

Amara's cheeks flushed with an adorable blush upon hearing his whisper. She averted her gaze shyly and responded in a low tone, "You're lucky I'm so amazing."

His kiss had truly taken her by surprise—a very pleasant surprise, to be honest. She felt all the gratitude, tenderness, and love conveyed through the sweet touch of Daemom's lips.

Unaware of what was going through the mind of his adorable little demon, Daemom stood up while holding Amara like a princess. He unfolded his wings in an instant.

His wings were pure white and immaculate, measuring about two meters in span. The feathers appeared soft and delicate, yet they were as strong as the finest steel in the world.

Wrapping her arms around Daemom's neck, Amara couldn't help but look at him with a gleaming gaze. She would never admit it to him, but she found this moment extremely sexy.

"Now let's kill until we're both satisfied," Daemom spoke coldly, his eyes glowing a deep, phosphorescent red.

His body gradually lifted off the ground, floating in the air, even though his wings seemed motionless.

Daemom was flying!

Author's Thoughts: In my mind, I wanted to write this chapter showing a little of the protagonist's intelligence, but I decided to show his recklessness. I didn't want to make Daemom run away, for some reason, that left a bitter taste in my mouth.
