"It's good that you have come back to your senses," grandpa Xin was extremely happy.
"Grandpa, are you directly saying I wasn't in my right senses previously?" Xin Yan coquettishly asked as she moved to her grandpa's side.
"Forget it, it's good you have broken up with him, we actually have something we want to discuss with you," grandpa Xin changed from being cheerful to being serious.
"What is it grandpa?" At this moment, Xin Yan had already forgotten that there was an outsider in the form of Li Qiang.
"The thing is we actually planned for you to get married to Li Qiang."
"This is for your own good Yanyan, at the end of the day, Yuan Renshu has deeply infiltrated into the core of the business, we need someone who can deter him and the people he has planted in there," grandpa Xin hurriedly explained, seeing that she had a frown on her face.
Xin Yan frowned as she shot a look at the man who was seated calmly. He unhurriedly took small sips from his cup of tea, seemingly uninterested.
"Grandma, grandpa, can I trouble you both to leave us?" Xin Yan asked and they hurriedly left the tea-room. They wanted something to blossom between the both of them and it won't work if they are both present in the room.
"Mr. Li," she called as she observed him. She wanted to know his thoughts. Why did he agree to the ridiculous demands from both grandparents?
The way things were going was totally different from what she expected or what she had planned for. Even in her past life, her grandparents never brought up any topics about marriage.
'Could it be because I had broken up with Yuan Renshu?' She questioned herself, seemingly coming to a conclusion.
"I advise miss Xin say what she wants to say, we are both busy people," Li Qiang's low baritone voice suddenly sounded which jolted her out of her thoughts.
"I'm sorry about that, I just want to ask, do you really want to marry me?" She tapped her fingers on the table as she awaited his answer.
Li Qiang looked at the girl blankly, his expression betraying no emotions he felt within himself.
He continued staring at her causing Xin Yan to squirm under his gaze.
'Why is he looking at me that way?' She asked herself but she didn't say anything, she only met his gaze calmly even if it was imposing.
Sensing she was not comfortable with him staring at her, Li Qiang calmly retracted his gaze.
"Do I want to get married to you? Of course I want to, that will mean one less enemy to take care of, the alliance between both of our families can strengthen our business, I won't let go of such a good idea," he replied to her question.
"That's good, it's great you see this as a business deal," Xin Yan visibly heaved a sigh of relief which made Li Qiang panic, though he hid it properly.
'What makes her think I will see this marriage as a deal? Is she okay?' He thought to himself as he scrutinized her, trying to find out what she was thinking but she hid her expressions really well, just the same way he did his.
"Why do you refer it to as a deal?" He was still speechless at her sense of reasoning.
"Because I'm sure you don't love me, I also don't love you, so it's a deal," Xin Yan said with a smile in her eyes, that smile attracting Li Qiang.
'Oh, Yanyan, I love you so much and I will make you fall in love with me, that's a fact,' he thought to himself as he envisioned how their lives will be after they had married.
He cleared his throat, "if that's what you think it to be, then it's a deal," he said to her and he didn't miss out on the smile she had on her face.
"But I will have to ask miss Xin, do you want to get married to me?" Li Qiang asked, his eyes revealing a rare hint of mischief.
He was sure the marriage was a done deal but he wanted to hear it from her mouth.
"If I didn't want to marry you, I would not have said it was a deal," Xin Yan looked at him as she doubted his intelligence quotient.
"So miss Xin wants to get married to me?" Li Qiang asked with a calm smile.
"Of course, I will get married to you," Xin Yan was sort of annoyed. Her doubts about his IQ rose.
'Why was he asking silly questions?' She asked herself, wondering if the rumors about his high IQ were just rumors.
She was tempted to believe they were just rumors as he wasn't acting smart as she would have expected.
"Well, it's settled, what sort of wedding do you want miss Xin?" He asked as he looked at her with interest.
"I don't have any big plans about weddings, I didn't even know I will get married after I have broken up with Yuan Renshu, but I just want my enemies to be aware of my marriage, that's my one wish."
Xin Yan didn't say much but Li Qiang understood what she wanted just with those few words of hers.
"Don't worry miss Xin, no, it seems I have to address you as Yanyan henceforth," Li Qiang beamed.
"Whatever you wish to call me," she spoke nonchalantly but her nonchalance was actually a cover up to how she felt.
As she beheld his smile, she couldn't help but think that he had the most beautiful smile that she had ever seen.
"So am I permitted to call you Yanyan?" He asked, staring straight into her eyes.
"Yes you can," she wanted to snap at him but just one look into his eyes, she became submissive.
He had dark eyes and those eyes looked as though they could see right through you. It had the ability to suck even the strongest people in.
"Alright Yanyan, you only need to look pretty, as for the preparation for the wedding, just leave everything to the elders, they know what to do," Li Qiang had faith in them, therefore Xin Yan didn't bother about it anymore.
"I have looked into the issues of your company, we need to dismiss the people whom Yuan Renshu has placed in power without your knowledge," Li Qiang went straight to business.
They talked about a lot and Li Qiang was impressed. He had no idea she was this knowledgeable. He put aside his surprise as they both exchanged ideas. The atmosphere between the both of them was harmonious.
They didn't even know that time had passed until they were called for dinner by one of the maids.
"Grandpa, grandma," Xin Yan called obediently when they reached the dining table.
"Grandpa Xin, grandma Xin," Li Qiang also addressed them as they stood beside each other.
They looked compatible with each other and due to the high impact of their visuals, they were both pleasing to the eye.
"Yanyan, Qiang, have your seats, Qiang, have dinner with us before you go back, okay?" Grandma Xin tried to persuade him.
It was well-known that Li Qiang hated having dinner in other people's homes.
Li Qiang turned to look at the girl who was at the moment staring at him also as she waited for his decision.
"Of course grandma, I'll love to have dinner with you and my soon-to-be wife," he said with a beautiful smile as he naturally took a seat.
Xin Yan looked at him, stunned, 'where did he put his shame?' She thought to herself, completely doubting all the rumors she had heard about him.
Your gift is the motivation for my creation. Give me more motivation!
"Good, good, Li Qiang, sit beside me," grandpa Xin excitedly waved to him as he gestured for him to have a seat beside him.
Xin Yan had an aggrieved look on her face.
"Grandpa is about to get a grandson, therefore he has forgotten about me, his real granddaughter," Xin Yan pouted her lips in grief.
"Yanyan, I can never forget about you, you are my darling granddaughter, you will always be the best to me," grandpa Xin comforted her.
She stuck out her tongue before she took a seat directly beside grandma Xin.
"Little girl, don't sit next to me, go sit next to your future husband," grandma Xin urged her.
She felt that their relationship will be hindered from progressing if she didn't try to be close to Li Qiang. Her granddaughter's EQ was already low, she could only help work on it.
Xin Yan looked at her grandmother, speechless. Was this still her conservative grandmother?
"Grandma, are you sure you know what you are saying?" Xin Yan asked with a smile but she hoped her grandmother was only bluffing.
"I'm not, this can foster feelings between the both of you," grandma Xin replied naturally.
"Then I guess I have no other option than to take a seat beside him," she said with a smile as she observed Li Qiang's expression.
It was said that he hated having close contact with ladies but as she sat beside him, the man didn't look like someone who hated contacts with ladies.
Apparently, Xin Yan had underestimated her worth. If she were to ever find out that Li Qiang did all this just because he liked her, then there was no telling how she would react. Well, this was a story for another day.
She had no other choice than to listen to her grandma as she took a seat beside Li Qiang. He didn't even budge, in fact, he handed a napkin which was way beyond her expectations.
When the dishes were served, Xin Yan couldn't help but salivate. All the dishes on the table were her favorites. She looked at her grandparents with a wide eyes. The feeling of being cared by someone was so fulfilling.
The dishes ranged from Chicken fried rice to wonton soup and the cherry on top, Xin Yan's number one preference, sweet and sour pork.
The light in her eyes was enough to tell anyone that the dishes on the table were her favorites.
"Little girl, I had the chef make this for you, this was because you were going to be coming home, so to celebrate, we have to make your favourites," grandma Xin informed her feeling blissful just by looking at her granddaughter's excited look.
"Thank you grandma," she thanked her sincerely, her eyes not leaving the food for a second.
"Do you really like the food that much?" Li Qiang lowered his head just to whisper to her.
"Of course I do, this dishes are what I eat anytime I recall about my parents," Xin Yan had a cheerful voice but Li Qiang was very sensitive.
He could sense the sadness she felt just by speaking about her parents. She might try to hide it and others would be fooled but not him.
Actually, her parents had died when she was 6 years of age. She had witnessed their death with her own eyes which caused her to develop a trauma.
She was raised by her grandparents which caused her to be very close to them. This was also the reason she was very close to Yuan Renshu and Jiang Lanfen previously.
He provided her with care and affection, something she had been after her whole life which caused her to be dependable on him. He had exploited her weakness.
"Don't worry, after you get married to me, you won't have to miss this food, it will be regularly made," Li Qiang promised and the good impression the Xins had of him increased.
The two elderlies nodded in approval. They were getting in on the years and right now, they only wanted someone who could protect and care about Xin Yan. Li Qiang was the best candidate.
"Thank you," she thanked him with a smile. He was the only person apart from her grandparents who treated her sincerely.
"Grandpa, grandma, I have been meaning to ask, have you been drinking some sort of drink?" This question was asked when they were almost done with dinner.
It was in the nature of Xin Yan to attack her enemies. She wasn't going to wait before her enemy made a move. She wasn't the type to dawdle around.
"Why do you ask Xin Yan?" Grandpa Xin asked her with a curious look.
On a normal day, Xin Yan wouldn't even be bothered with what they drank but now, she was concerned. This caused the two oldies to feel warmth in their hearts.
"I'm just curious grandpa, I'm worried, both you and grandma's eyes appear less brighter than usual and please do not attribute it to old age, I have seen some cases such as this."
Xin Yan had a serious look on her face. If she didn't, then they weren't going to trust her. She was extremely worried about her grandparents.
This was her only chance to ask them before she got busy with the wedding preparations and the company issues.
"Young miss, you aren't even a doctor, so why do you say you have seen some cases when you haven't been exposed to such situations?"
The butler was the one who spoke and though he tried to hide the disdain in his voice, it was still heard in his voice.
Li Qiang frowned at the stupid butler. Now he felt it wasn't that bad that she asked the question.
Owing to the fact that he was really sensitive, he suspected that something was wrong with the Xins' elders and it could be entirely attributed to this foolish butler who didn't know how to speak. Xin Yan wasn't one to bluff.
"Butler Yu, I don't think I have to be a doctor to be able to encounter such situations, don't forget I do charity and I have gone to hospitals just to meet personally with the patients."
Butler Yu was speechless. Xin Yan brutally put him down with his words. He wasn't even expecting her to have such amazing verbal combat.
"So tell me grandpa, you must have been taking something, it's urgent and the doctors will treat you immediately, I'm worried because I don't want anything to happen to you both," Xin Yan urged them to tell her, her eyes filled with unshed tears.
Grandpa Xin immediately looked at butler Yu who was glaring at Xin Yan, so much he didn't notice his gaze.
Grandpa Xin's heart turned cold. To be able to have gained a stable foothold in the country's industry and bringing the company to number two just right behind the Lis, he was very discerning.
And even if he was old, that discerning skill in his heart was something he couldn't get rid of. How else could he have told that Yuan Renshu wasn't good?
"Yanyan, this is what we have been taken, it was given to us by butler Yu," while grandpa Xin was in deep thoughts, grandma Xin had already brought out a bottle of medicine. This showed she completely trusted Xin Yan.
Xin Yan received the medicine as she scrutinized it. She didn't find any label and her heart turned cold. She raised her head to look at the butler who took a step back, his back drenched in cold sweat.
'What the hell? How could I have gotten scared just by her stare?' The butler questioned himself in fear as he wiped the sweat on his forehead.
Xin Yan's gaze just now was really scary.
"I would take this to the hospital for a test, you had better pray it isn't what I'm thinking," Xin Yan stood as she warned him, her fingers pointed at him.
The butler's legs were shaking. He had just commited an huge blunder but the next statement which sounded was like an huge death sentence to him.
"How about you give me the bottle of medicine, I have a trusted research centre and they would be willing to perform some tests on it."
Plop! This came from butler Yu as he stared at Xin Yan and Li Qiang as though they were the devil incarnates.
'It is over,' he muttered to himself, the dread he felt increasing at each second.
