Capítulo 139: 139. Aen Saevherne.

Elves are not the original inhabitants of the Witcher's world. They were originally known as the Aen Seidhe and were once part of the same clan as the Aen Elle, both belonging to the Aen Undod. However, a great upheaval forced the Aen Elle to leave their world, and they split during the journey.

The Aen Seidhe arrived in this world in 1240 BC, sailing on the White Ships, and were called the People of the Mountains—Elves. The Aen Elle, on the other hand, went to another world, choosing a very different path, and later became known as the Wild Hunt in human lore.

After learning that King Kaedwen was targeting the elves for unknown reasons and trying to drag the Wolf School into the mess, Allen began researching elven history in the library. The more he delved into the history, especially the events of the past few decades, the more questions arose in Allen's mind. It wasn't just the king's attitude towards the elves that was peculiar; the elves' determined resistance was also puzzling.

Since the second major conflict between elves and humans—the Aelirenn Uprising, led by the "White Rose of Shaerrawedd," Aelirenn—nearly all young elves had gone to war and were tragically slaughtered by humans. Elves, already lacking strong reproductive capabilities, see their fertility decline even further with age.

Due to this war, the Aen Seidhe lost their chance to rise again almost permanently.

In despair, the remaining elves not only destroyed Shaerrawedd, their last elven palace, but also retreated to the depths of the Blue Mountains, adopting a life of seclusion. But on the way from Kaer Village to Ban Ard, Allen heard in a tavern that the elves' resistance had suddenly started last year and had not yet ended.

The Aelirenn Uprising happened just a century ago, which might seem like a long time to humans. But to elves, who live much longer, it could feel like it was just yesterday. What drove them not only to leave the safety of their mountain retreats but also to dare to conflict with a powerful human kingdom like Kaedwen?

Was it a person? Or some artifact?

Allen pondered, thinking that perhaps the key to saving Kaer Morhen lay within these mysteries.

"Rattle... Rattle..."

A prison cart carrying seven or eight elves passed in front of him. The wolf medallion on his chest trembled slightly, interrupting his thoughts. Allen looked up, meeting the proud gaze of the elves inside the cart. Their disheveled hair couldn't hide their sharp features, and even sitting in the cart in leather armor, their upright posture still exuded elegance. It was clear these were elven warriors.

"envatt'ghern?"

Suddenly, a whisper, like a soft breeze, echoed in Allen's mind.

He paused for a moment, then looked up, locking eyes with a pair of silver eyes as clear as molten lead.

Envatt'ghern?

What does that mean?

The Elder Speech?

No, there are too many guards around. How could the elves in the cage dare to speak to me?

Allen glanced around, noticing that no one else seemed aware of this unusual occurrence, confirming that the whisper was indeed in his mind.

"Vatt... Witcher, this is Elder Speech!"

"Tell me, Witcher of the Wolf School, would you accept a commission?"

The prison cart was gradually moving away, and to avoid suspicion, Allen didn't give chase. But even so, the voice in his mind didn't fade with the distance. This was a powerful elven sorceress!

He immediately realized the gravity of the situation.

Why would such a powerful elven sorceress be captured?

And why hadn't the sorcerers bound her with dimeritium shackles?

Could it be that she was captured on purpose? What were they planning to do in Ban Ard?

"You're a clever little one, but don't think too much. I'm asking if you would accept a commission?"

She's reading my mind... Allen's heart skipped a beat. He quickly cleared his thoughts and cautiously asked:

"Who are you? What's the commission? Why me?"

The whispering voice chuckled softly, as if mocking his caution:

"Destiny has chosen you."

Destiny?

Allen was about to ask more. But the elf continued on her own: "In a village near Ban Ard, find a human couple and help them safely leave Kaedwen!"

"You will receive what you desire most..."

A human couple?

There are human couples everywhere. Where am I supposed to start?

"When you meet them, you will know!"

What kind of riddle is this?

I'll know when I meet them? How can I meet them if I don't even know where to start looking?

Wait, I haven't even agreed yet...

Allen shouted internally. But the elf seemed certain he would accept the commission. With a chime-like laugh, a subtle mental presence withdrew from his mind.

"What's wrong, Allen?" Vesemir asked.

Allen was silent for a few seconds before shaking his head and replying: "Nothing, Vesemir Master."

The situation had escalated suddenly, and he needed time to sort out his thoughts before making any decisions.

"The gate's opening!"

A shout from the front interrupted Vesemir's questioning. Seeing that Allen was unwilling to talk, Vesemir didn't press further. He called Hughes, Bond, and Fred to gather their belongings and tend to their mares. Holding the reins, they followed the slow-moving line into the city of Ban Ard.

"Rattle... Rattle..."

At the sorcerer's signal, the city gate opened, and the prison cart slowly entered. Inside the cart.

Several elves subtly shielded a seemingly frail, red-haired, large-eyed elven woman in the center.

"Honored Aen Saevherne, we have arrived at the human city. What shall we do next?" one elf quietly asked in Elder Speech.

If Allen were here and heard the elves' address, his shock would undoubtedly intensify.

Aen Saevherne—The Knowing Ones.

In Elder Speech, this is often confused with "sorcerer," but its true translation should be "elven sage."

The mysterious Aen Saevherne were indeed similar to sorcerers in that they wielded magic. However, their magical prowess was far superior to that of humans, and they possessed deep knowledge of all things in the world.

Medicine, art, and even crossing into other worlds, dimensions, and time itself.

The red-haired elf referred to as Aen Saevherne shook her head at the question. She looked up at the city filled with spires and said: "We will do nothing. We will wait for the human king to arrive. After I see him, we will leave."

The other elves in the cart widened their eyes slightly. This was completely different from the plan they had before setting out. They exchanged glances, and finally, the elf who had spoken earlier asked softly: "What about that lord?"

"Do not worry. I 'saw' her return safely to the court," the red-haired elf said with a faint smile, sweeping her gaze over the other elves. "Are you doubting me?"

The elves quickly lowered their heads, repeatedly saying they dared not.

"Crack!"

A whip suddenly lashed against the bars of the cart.

"Shut up, you damned long-ears!"

The elves' faces showed indignation, but considering the Aen Saevherne's plan, they quietly held their tongues. The red-haired elf was not affected by the whip.

She elegantly turned her head to look beyond the city gate, her expression lost or perhaps relieved as she softly murmured: "Filius Miraculi essenvatt'ghern!"
