Chapter 45: A Dream
Alex trudged back home, his mood heavy with the weight of recent events. The loss of the world fragment gnawed at him, and the knowledge that another sinister force sought to control the fragments for their own gain only added to his frustration. He pushed open the door to his house, the familiar surroundings doing little to lift his spirits.
CV was waiting for him, her eyes filled with concern. She immediately sensed his turmoil and took his hand, leading him to the dining table where a simple yet comforting meal awaited. They ate in relative silence, the clinking of cutlery the only sound breaking the heavy air.
"Alex, we need to stay calm," CV said gently after they had finished eating. She squeezed his hand reassuringly. "We'll figure this out together."
Alex sighed, his tension easing slightly at her touch. "I know. It's just... we were so close. And now there's someone else after the fragments."
CV stood up and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a warm embrace. "We'll find a way. We always do."
She tilted her head up and kissed him softly. The kiss, tender and filled with unspoken promises, brought a sense of peace to Alex's troubled heart. Together, they moved to their bedroom, exhaustion taking hold of them as they lay down. Within minutes, they drifted off to sleep, CV nestled against Alex's side.

An hour into his slumber, Alex began to dream. The dream felt vividly real, as if he were being transported to another realm. He found himself in a strange location, an expansive void with an ethereal glow. The air was thick with an otherworldly presence, and a deep silence pervaded the space.
Suddenly, Alex felt a strange sensation within him, a stirring that grew stronger by the second. It was as if something was trying to emerge from his very core. He looked down at his body, and to his astonishment, he saw the Wish Crystal beginning to materialize from within him. It pulsed with a brilliant light, illuminating the void around him.
As the crystal fully emerged, its glow intensified, and a figure began to take shape beside it. The Guardian of the Wish Crystal materialized, his presence commanding and ancient. Alex's shock turned to confusion and then to a spark of excitement as he realized the significance of this encounter.
"Guardian," Alex began, his voice echoing in the vastness. "What is happening? Why am I here?"
The Guardian's eyes, wise and ageless, met Alex's. "You have been summoned by the Wish Crystal itself. It seeks to reveal truths and guide you on your quest for the world fragments."
Alex felt a mix of emotions—relief, curiosity, and a lingering sense of dread. "What do I need to know?"
The Guardian nodded solemnly. "The quest for the world fragments is more than just a pursuit of power. Each fragment holds a piece of a greater whole, a being of immense raw power. This being's body was shattered, and its fragments scattered across realms to prevent its resurrection."
Alex processed this information, the weight of his mission becoming clearer. "So, these fragments... they belong to a single entity?"
"Yes," the Guardian confirmed. "An entity of unimaginable power, now in a dormant state. But if all fragments are brought together, it could awaken."
Alex's thoughts raced, the implications of their quest taking on a new dimension. He suddenly remembered something that had been nagging at the back of his mind. "Guardian, who are you? Why do you guard the crystal?"
The Guardian glanced at the Wish Crystal, receiving a silent nod of approval. He turned back to Alex, his expression softening. "I am your great-grandfather, Alex. In life, I was chosen to guard the Wish Crystal and its secrets. I have watched over our family and the crystal for generations."
Shock and a sense of connection washed over Alex. "Great-grandfather... Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"It was a secret meant to be revealed only when the time was right," the Guardian explained. "You are the chosen one, Alex. The crystal chose you because of your potential, your strength, and your heart."
Alex felt a surge of determination. "I won't let you down. I'll find the fragments and protect them from those who seek to misuse them."
The Guardian smiled, a rare and tender expression. "I have faith in you, Alex. Remember, you are not alone. The crystal, your friends, and your family—all are with you."
As the dream began to fade, Alex felt a renewed sense of purpose. The void around him dissolved, and he drifted back to consciousness, the Guardian's words echoing in his mind.
---
Alex awoke with a start, the memory of the dream vivid and clear. CV stirred beside him, her eyes fluttering open. "Alex? Are you okay?"
He turned to her, his expression resolute. "I had a dream, CV. A vision, maybe. The Wish Crystal... and the Guardian. We have so much more to do."
CV's eyes widened as he recounted the dream, the gravity of their mission becoming even more apparent. She took his hand, her grip firm and reassuring. "Then we'll do it together. We'll find the fragments and keep them safe."
Alex nodded, the lingering doubt and frustration replaced by a steely resolve. They had a mission, a purpose, and now, a clearer understanding of the stakes. Together, they would face whatever challenges lay ahead, armed with knowledge, determination, and the strength of their bond.
