Ryou, one of the overlords of the multiverse known as Order, sensed a peculiar fluctuation as he passed by a certain world one day.
Following this mysterious sensation, he opened a portal and stepped into the world.
As soon as he entered, several powerful consciousnesses immediately noticed his presence.
Ryou glanced at them with a faint, indifferent gaze.
Those powerful entities instantly withdrew their senses in a panic, shrinking away as if his very presence instilled fear.
Raising his hand, Ryou summoned a golden, radiant sphere that hovered above his palm. With a mere thought, the sphere expanded a billionfold, revealing the intricate details of an entire universe reflected within its golden glow.
"Let's have a look..."
With a casual swipe of his fingers, Ryou zoomed in and out of the scenes within the orb, as though he were scrolling through a phone screen. When he focused on the most critical location of many universes — Earth — a series of familiar images appeared before him.
"Oh, it's the Marvel Universe... Let's see where the plot is right now... Ah, I see, it's Infinity War' How nostalgic."
Despite having the face of a 20-year-old, Ryou sighed like a man in his seventies.
The scene zoomed further, showing the events playing out on Earth. The infamous Thanos descended like a god, mercilessly overpowering all the superheroes.
"NOOO!!!"
Scarlet Witch's anguished scream echoed as she watched Thanos rip the Mind Stone straight out of Vision's forehead.
With the final stone placed into the Infinity Gauntlet, an overwhelming, unstoppable power coursed through Thanos's body. He felt omnipotent — with just one snap, he could obliterate half of all life in the universe.
Snap!
With a sense of divine purpose, Thanos wasted no time and raised his gauntleted hand, executing the fateful snap. A wave of obscure, dreadful energy surged from the Infinity Gauntlet, spreading rapidly in all directions.
But just as it was about to reach its zenith, the force hit an invisible dam and was instantly repelled.
One minute passed.
Thanos's eyes filled with confusion.
Nothing happened. The universe remained unchanged. Everything was exactly as it was.
Except... for the fact that he had been holding a powerful, overbearing pose like a king for a whole minute — and it was now growing awkward.
Then, a voice echoed.
"Bro, that's not how you snap your fingers."
With no dramatic effects like time-space portals or shadows, Ryou's figure quietly appeared before Thanos. There were no flashing lights or fancy visual effects — it was as if he had always been there.
Thanos's eyes narrowed with vigilance.
"Who are you?"
"I'm your fa-," Ryou instinctively began but stopped himself just in time. He had no interest in claiming a bizarre genetic offspring like Thanos.
With a casual wave of his hand, Ryou said, "Who I am doesn't matter. The key thing is, you need a little... help."
"Hmph!"
Thanos scoffed. His large, purple face twisted in scorn. Without a word, he snapped his fingers at Ryou once again.
...But nothing happened.
Thanos's face immediately darkened.
"What did you do?"
Ryou simply smiled without saying a word.
To Thanos, that smile seemed inscrutable, filled with layers of deep meaning. His mind raced, calculating the possibilities. He even began to doubt whether the gauntlet on his hand was a counterfeit.
Snap, snap, snap!
Unwilling to relent, Thanos continued snapping his fingers, producing a rapid, rhythmic series of metallic clicks. Yet the expected power never came.
At that moment, Ryou made a subtle motion with one of his fingers.
Crack!
A soft cracking sound echoed. The thumb of the Infinity Gauntlet snapped clean off and fell to the ground.
For a moment, the atmosphere grew incredibly awkward.
Ryou smiled faintly.
"Bro, it looks like you bought your gauntlet off a certain sketchy e-commerce site."
"Shut up!"
Thanos's face turned ashen — well, as ashen as a purple face could get.
"Bro, that's not how you snap your fingers. Let me show you how it's done."
Ignoring Thanos's increasingly murderous glare, Ryou raised his hand. With a relaxed, effortless motion, he snapped his fingers.
Snap!
A soft but crisp sound echoed.
In the next moment, Thanos's consciousness faded into darkness.
…
Time seemed to slow.
Thanos felt an unprecedented sense of peace and tranquility.
In the mornings, he bathed in the golden glow of dawn.
At night, he gazed at the endless starry sky.
Sometimes, he walked in the rain, marveling at rainbows forming in the mist.
Life felt serene and idyllic.
...Until the day he was tossed into a pot of boiling water.
In his final moments before his consciousness completely dissolved, he vaguely heard a voice muttering,
"Geez, this purple sweet potato looks ugly."
