Capítulo 38: Without a truce.
A day had already passed, and at night he could barely sleep from thinking so much about the recent events involving him and his team. Morning came, and Kowalski was still pensive about what had happened the day before. He got up looking for Dr. Kaminski and Gareno, without success. He knew Thilláila was in another section of that gigantic place and, as always, accompanied and protected by Troy, the pet dragon.
Luckily, there were other sections that had already served as accommodations for the teams of scientists who had commanded that research center some time ago. Probably, his friends were completely snoring in large beds with extra-soft king-size mattresses. He kept thinking about how Thilláila had much greater potential than he could have expected. In that fight against the dragons, she wasn't just a fighter; she had been much more than a warrior. It was something so phenomenal that she could be considered a true war weapon, silent and extremely lethal.
"Since when do you have this ability?" he asked as soon as he opened the access gate where they had fought the beasts the day before. And as soon as he took the first step, he stumbled over one of the many beast corpses lying on the ground. And, as he was still recovering from the previous combats, he couldn't avoid his fall.
"Thilláila! What happened here? Did you use your powers again?" he asked, but Thilláila did not respond because her mind was exhausted from the excess of mental energy she had just spent.
Realizing that he was more concerned with his friend's abilities than with his own well-being, Kowalski felt ashamed. He quickly got up and went to help his friend. Looking to the side, he saw Troy, the pet dragon, who showed signs of having recently fought, proving his worth by facing a number of fierce enemies that, in numerical superiority, were stronger than him. Obviously, from the large amount of blood gushing from his wounds, Troy had not emerged unscathed from this combat. The only one who seemed to have suffered no harm was Dr. Kaminski, who stared at him for a few seconds wanting to say something but simply fainted.
Only then, hearing a voice that reminded him of Gareno, did he leave Thilláila aside and decided to look for him, but couldn't find him easily. Kowalski had to remove some dreikis carcasses from on top of his also very injured body. His friend tried to warn him about something, but all he could do was babble incoherent phrases, such was the damage he had suffered. Even so, Gareno managed to point to Kowalski, indicating that there was some danger near him, and when the old soldier lifted his eyes, he heard a small growl from a huge dreikis, the largest he had seen so far, staring at him fiercely.
The problem was that Kowalski had no weapon in his hands, and all his friends were apparently unconscious or simply unable to help him. Everything indicated that this fight would have to be resolved by him alone. Limping, Kowalski took a combat stance, awaiting his enemy's next move. The beast moved with all its fur bristling and its mouth agape, showing its large fangs, always growling at the old soldier.
Kowalski knew that wouldn't end well for him, as he felt an enormous weakness, not only physically but also mentally. Thilláila's intrusion into his mind had left him exhausted, and it was not an easy experience to forget. However, he needed to focus on the upcoming fight if he wanted to survive.
