Capítulo 17: A Change of Mindset
"I'm almost out of time."
Ignoring the pain that was clouding his rationality, Raka activated the last technique he had developed from the Toki Toki no Mi.
He had specifically developed this technique as a countermeasure for situations involving injuries like the one he was experiencing now.
"Reversal Time!"
Raka emitted the power of time. Instantly, his severed legs were restored in a short span.
This wasn't regeneration; it was reversing time. Returning things to their previous state, essentially undoing actions that had been taken.
Although it sounded overpowered, Reversal Time had a weakness: it could only reverse time for 15 seconds. In other words, if Raka surpassed that time frame, he would not be able to recover from physical injuries.
Reversal Time was inspired by Tokisaki Kurumi's Fourth Bullet.
"Time Stop!"
Next, Raka used Time Stop.
"Hah Hah Hah... That was close... I was so close to death..."
Breathing heavily, he shuddered as he saw the Brutal Alligator just two meters away from him. If he had been late in stopping time, he would have been their meal.
"Run... I have to run..."
Struggling to his feet, Raka ran away from the lake.
"Ouch!"
In his haste, he tripped over a tree root and fell hard to the ground.
"..."
Instead of getting up immediately, he lay face down, recalling the previous incident.
"I'm so pathetic and useless... No wonder I'm just an ordinary person. I don't have the courage like the main characters in a story. All I know is how to run away when facing danger..."
"Want to change my life for the better? What a joke. When opportunities are right in front of me, I don't dare to take them... I don't dare to step out of my comfort zone and turn away from the chances given to me."
Clenching his fists, Raka hated his cowardly and timid self.
In his imagination, he fantasized that he would do better than the main characters in stories if he were in their place. But when it actually happened, he couldn't do anything like a loser.
It was like someone boasting they weren't afraid of ghosts, but when they met one, they would run faster than anyone else or just stand there, shaking in fear.
"No... I don't want to be ordinary forever. I want to change!"
Trying to stand, Raka's expression changed drastically. Fear was replaced by determination and a thirst for power.
After introspecting, he knew he couldn't continue like this.
"Even though I'm scared, there are things I cannot avoid."
"I can't keep running when facing monsters."
*SMACK*
Slapping his face hard until his palm left a mark on his cheek, Raka gave himself a painful stimulus to wake himself up.
"No matter how dangerous it is to be an Agresor Paradise, it's still much better than living an ordinary life, not knowing when death will come due to external factors."
"Even if I die while pursuing power, it will still be my own choice. Even if I can't choose how to live, at least I can choose how to die."
Looking back, Raka decided to slaughter the Brutal Alligator as proof of his resolution to change.
"Alright, the first step is to lure them out of the lake. I'm a Devil Fruit user, and falling into the water is a death sentence for me."
After formulating a plan in his mind, he began to implement it.
First, Raka looked for an animal to use as bait.
There were many wild animals in the forest, but he had no hunting knowledge. So, he relied on Time Stop and managed to kill a rabbit.
"Ugh... In the real world, I've never slaughtered a chicken and am scared of seeing people slaughter a cow, and here I am slaughtering a rabbit."
Suppressing the guilt and pity in his heart, Raka walked towards the lake.
Upon reaching the lakeside, he let the fresh blood of the rabbit flow into the water, then placed the rabbit on the ground. Raka then hurriedly hid behind a tree.
Like sharks smelling blood, dozens of Brutal Alligators were seen approaching.
'With this cheap dagger, I'm worried I can't pierce the Brutal Alligator's skin, but the eyes are a weakness of all living creatures. I'll aim for that.'
Drawing the dagger from his belt, Raka still felt fear in his heart. But his fear was dominated by anger for revenge.
'Now!'
When a group of Brutal Alligators fought over the rabbit, Raka activated Stealth.
In an invisible state, he approached the Brutal Alligators who were unaware of his presence.
Feeling close enough, Raka used Time Stop.
With him as the center, the power of time covered a 10-meter radius, and everything stopped moving as if someone had pressed the pause button.
Only Raka could move in this time-stopped domain.
"This is my revenge for eating my legs!"
Filled with rage, Raka began stabbing the eyes of the Brutal Alligators several times until he pierced their brains.
His mind wasn't completely blinded by anger; he didn't focus on just one Brutal Alligator. After feeling the target was dead, he moved to the next Brutal Alligator.
Anyway, he utilized these 15 seconds to slaughter as many Brutal Alligators as possible.
"How does my leg taste?! Is it delicious? There's no free lunch in the world, pay for the leg you ate earlier and become EXP so I can grow stronger, okay?"
Knowing there was no chance of winning in a frontal fight, Raka could only adopt stealth attack tactics.
Stealth attacks weren't shameful. As long as the battle could be won, any method wasn't disgraceful.
At least that's what Raka believed. After all, his job was a Thief specializing in stealth attacks.
"It's time."
Counting each second in his heart, Raka jumped back and hid again. The next moment, time resumed, and the three remaining Brutal Alligators were shocked to see eight of their kind suddenly dead with head wounds.
Not knowing what was happening, the three remaining Brutal Alligators didn't dare to surface again. Their instincts warned them that a fierce predator was waiting.
"Haaahhh... Thank goodness they're gone."
Seeing this scene, Raka leaned against a tree and slid to the ground.
His stamina was depleted, and he could barely move.
It wasn't surprising, considering he had used the power of Toki Toki no Mi continuously.
Reversal Time was the most stamina-consuming technique so far compared to Time Stop and Time Alter.
"Even though I didn't develop an offensive technique from the power of Toki Toki no Mi, this isn't too bad."
"Time Alter for Movement, Time Stop for Support, and Reversal Time for Healing. It shouldn't be a problem to survive the first Planar World, right?"
Previously, he thought that with the three techniques he had developed, he could easily pass through the First Planar World. It seems he was too naive.
Curious about how much EXP he had gained after killing eight Brutal Alligators, Raka looked at his adventure card.
