Avery's eyes slid down to the screen of the phone, reading the displayed message in her mind.

Mr Donovan: Angel, are you intentionally stalling so I can postpone the date? Or wait... (a smirk emoji) are you wasting time so our date can advance well into the night, all because you want a repeat of last night?

"So?" Jodi's voice, laced with a teasing lilt, flitted into her ears. "What happened last night?"

Avery shot her a glare, her cheeks red from embarrassment as she snatched the phone and pressed on the voice message icon.

She spoke through gritted teeth, her voice not too low and not too loud, "Getting above yourself, aren't you? Some of us are actually busy and have better things to think of, than an ordinary date and a boring last night. I won't be coming down now. I have classes to attend. If I finish early, I might have mercy on your ass and join you on whatever unexciting date you've planned up. Bye... Donovan."
