"I will," Lin Xiao promised before heading out. Once outside, he took out his phone and called Xiaoyu. The phone rang a few times before she answered.
"Lin Xiao? What's up?" Xiaoyu's voice came through the line.
"Miss Xiaoyu, it's Lin Xiao, you met me yesterday, I need your help," Lin Xiao said, explaining the situation briefly "I have one of my friend's shirts. Can you use your ability to track him down?"
"Of course," Xiaoyu replied without hesitation. "Meet me at the park near your school. I'll be there in fifteen minutes."
"Thank you, Miss Xiaoyu," Lin Xiao said, relief washing over him.
"No problem. See you soon," she replied before hanging up.
Lin Xiao hurried to the park, his mind racing with worry for Wang Lei. When he arrived, Xiaoyu was already there, waiting for him.
"Here," Lin Xiao said, handing her Wang Lei's shirt.
Xiaoyu took it and sniffed it carefully, her eyes closed in concentration. After a few moments, she opened her eyes. "I got his scent. Follow me."
Lin Xiao followed Xiaoyu through the streets, moving quickly.
They eventually reached the outskirts of the city and approached a rundown warehouse that looked eerily familiar.
Xiaoyu stopped and pointed at the building. "He's in there."
Lin Xiao was shocked to see the warehouse. It was the same warehouse where he found his sister.
He told Xiaoyu to call Li Jing for backup, and then cautiously approached the warehouse. It seemed empty after yesterday, looking almost as good as new.
Lin Xiao went inside and found nothing there, like literally nothing, no blood or rubbish he saw yesterday.
He went back outside and told Xiaoyu, "I couldn't find anyone in there."
Xiaoyu came inside, sniffing the air. "His scent is everywhere, literally everywhere," she said, confused. Even Xiaoyu was stumped. "He has to be somewhere here."
Soon, a bunch of noises came from outside, It was Li Jing.
Lin Xiao went outside and approached Li Jing, and right as he approached her, she asked, "What happened Lin Xiao? Why did you call us here?"
Lin Xiao explained how his friend Wang Lei had gone missing and that he was trying to find him.
Li Jing then turned to Xiaoyu. "Are you sure you can really smell him here? There's literally no one here and we sure to check everything yesterday."
Suddenly, Lin Xiao had a thought. "Unless he's underground."
Li Jing's eyes widened in realization. Xiaoyu nodded. "It might be possible."
Li Jing instructed her team, "Check for any underground structures. Start digging."
The team quickly got to work. After some time, they hit metal. It looked like the roof of a room.
Li Jing ordered her team to open it using tools. As they peeled back the metal, a hidden lab was revealed below.
Lin Xiao peered inside, his eyes widening at the sight. The lab was filled with large tubes, each containing a human floating in some kind of liquid.
He felt a chill run down his spine.
Li Jing's expression hardened. "This is bigger than we thought. Everyone, proceed with caution,"
The team descended into the lab, carefully checking each tube. Lin Xiao followed, his heart pounding.
As they moved deeper into the lab, they found more disturbing sights: people hooked up to machines, some seemingly unconscious, others showing signs of distress.
Almost all of their tubes were connected to a red crystal, the same type of crystal that Lin Xiao's cats had found.
When Li Jing saw that, she was shocked and quickly instructed everyone, "Do not touch the red crystals and stay away from the people."
She took out her phone and messaged someone urgently.
Lin Xiao, seeing an opportunity, asked, "Can I try to find my friend?"
Li Jing agreed but sternly reminded him, "Do not touch the red crystals."
Lin Xiao nodded, though part of him wanted to touch the crystals due to the mission he had from the system. However, he resisted the urge.
Finally, he found Wang Lei, unconscious inside one of the tubes. Lin Xiao was shocked because, even when he found him, the system notification didn't pop up.
"Something's not right," he muttered to himself. He leaned closer to inspect Wang Lei.
The red crystal connected to Wang Lei was pulsing with a strange energy. Lin Xiao felt a shiver run down his spine. He had a bad feeling about this.
Li Jing noticed his concern and approached. "What's wrong?"
Lin Xiao replied, "No, nothing, just I felt something strange." He didn't want to tell Li Jing about the system.
Li Jing put that aside and focused on the task at hand.
Lin Xiao was confused. What is happening? Is that not Wang Lei? The appearance was the same.
While he was checking, he suddenly noticed Wang Lei's eyelashes flutter and his eyes open. He whispered weakly, "Lin Xiao, is that you? Are you really here?"
Lin Xiao was shocked because this guy who had the same appearance as Wang Lei knew his name. "Wang Lei! Yes, it's me," Lin Xiao said, leaning closer. "You're safe now. We're getting you out of here."
Li Jing stepped forward. "Wang Lei, we're here to help you. Can you tell us what happened?"
Wang Lei's voice was frail, but he managed to explain, "I was... taken. They did something to me. I don't know what, but I felt like I was losing myself."
Lin Xiao and Li Jing exchanged a worried glance. Lin Xiao knew he had to be careful with his words. "Do you remember anything about who took you or why?"
Wang Lei closed his eyes for a moment, trying to recall. "There were men... they said they could help me do anything I wanted," Wang Lei's eyes flashed as he said 'anything'.
Suddenly his heart rate went up by a lot.
Li Jing, seeing that, immediately ordered, "Get the medical team in here now! We need to stabilize him."
The team rushed over, carefully monitoring Wang Lei as they prepared to move him.
As they moved Wang Lei into the containment unit, Li Jing turned to Lin Xiao. "You did well finding him. I'll make sure you get some rewards for that."
Lin Xiao stood there as he watched Li Jing take Wang Lei and other captives to some unknown place.
His mind was racing, is that really Wang Lei? Is the system bugging or something?
Second.
Enjoy :)
