Capítulo 79: Race Against Time
Once Shiro and I manage to get Lisa into the back seat, I soon start the car, driving straight to the hospital. As for the unconscious man, we threw him in the trunk for now, using mana-sealing cuffs in case he wakes up.
I still couldn't believe it though... I honestly thought I was done for, but when I saw Lisa come with Shiro all by herself, my heart sank. I know Lisa's capable, but seeing Shiro arrive and hearing her call my name repeatedly, I knew I needed to get out of there; to survive. But my mana ran dry, which led to me crashing into that wall. I thought that was it for me. That I'd begin bleeding out. I could see Lisa countering the magic with her own, making sure that nothing would come to me. However...
I didn't expect to see Shiro do that. When she came to check on me, I felt her aura grow wildly, almost like something inside her had snapped. Her eyes also looked sharp as she looked over me. I tried to calm her down, but before I knew it, she walked over to where Lisa was. There I saw her stop a wave of flames, all by herself. She even killed all of the weaker ones with guns in but an instant. It was honestly a scary sight as even the survivors were terrified at what was happening. But that was all I could remember.
(Shiro: "Charlotte! You hear me? It's Shiro!")
Thanks to Shiro, I managed to wake back up, only to find that I was drinking directly from Lisa's wrist, something I've never done before... To make matters worse, Lisa dropped unconscious, shaking me to my very core. I thought I killed her, but I could still sense a faint heartbeat. If it wasn't for Shiro breaking me out right then and there, I might've truly killed her... That thought circles my mind as we continue to drive to the hospital.
"Charlotte..." Shiro looks at me with worry filling her eyes. I hate that I had her see all of this... Word's can't describe how angry I am at myself.
"I'm fine." I say while taking in more blood from a blood bag while I drive.
The pain is excruciating, especially at my front along my chest, but I just need to tough it out... I need to make it in time...
After ten minutes of driving, we finally get to the hospital, as Shiro once again helps me bring Lisa inside. The nurses and other staff immediately begin storming towards us, trying to give us aid after we came inside the building. Only they seem to be wanting to treat me first.
"Ma'am! Lets get you to-"
"No! Help Lisa!" I yell out as Shiro and I bring Lisa forward, her body still limp and unconscious in our arms.
They quickly do as I say and manage to get her onto the gurney.
"It's anemia. She gave me blood. It was an emergency." I give them some details as they roll her out. But I guess after looking at me, it'd make more sense for me to be the one with a lack of blood.
"Help Charlotte too!" But just then, Shiro yells out to the nurses. Wait, actually, she's not wearing a mask. Yet she can look at the others inside? Even after what just happened?
"Yes! Ma'am, could be please lie down on this for me?"
I do as I'm told and lay down on another gurney, however I take hold of Shiro's hand who's standing beside me.
"Shiro stays with me though."
"Th-that's fine."
We soon move into another room as they give me plenty of painkillers to numb the pain. Of course the pain was still there, but it was a tab bit more manageable now. All the while as they were sticking needles and tubes into me, I squeezed down on Shiro's hand, which she did the same.
"We'll need to put you under."
"No, I need to be awake."
"But-"
"I don't care, just do it."
"Y-yes!"
At this point, they must've brought up my details and figured out who I am. It's probably because of this that they're allowing me to be this demanding. The main reason why is so that I can keep my blood from going all over the place, but also I worry about Shiro... She looked so panicked before, and even during the drive here... I don't want her to have to see me fall unconscious, not knowing if I'm dead or not. So I need to make sure I stay awake... For her.
"Shiro was it?" One of the nurses however, addresses Shiro as the other two nurses begin to cut away my clothes, revealing my wounds, along with the rest of my body.
I managed to keep most of my blood inside, but now that I'm seeing it... It really does look like someone just tried to open me up to harvest my organs. Is Shiro okay at the sight of this?
"Yes!"
"Did you want to wait in another room? We can-"
"No! I want to stay here with Charlotte!" I couldn't help but smile upon hearing that as we both end up squeezing each other's hands at the same time. You're very brave, Shiro.
"V-very well. Hold onto her hand tight okay? This will be quite painful for her."
"Okay..."
Well, I'm glad that I'm going to be taken care of. They've strapped me to a blood bag, supplying me with mana directly in order for me to keep all my blood inside me. Once they finish stitching me up and what not, the only worry would be Lisa...
I really hope that we made it in time... Lisa was incredibly pale, so I can't help but wonder if it's already too late. I wouldn't know what I'd do if I was the cause for her death... Maybe if I didn't send out that stupid distress signal-! But just then, Shiro holds my hand tighter, this time wrapping her other hand around mine, giving me even more warmth. Yeah... I shouldn't be thinking that. I don't want Shiro to worry.
"Alright, you ready, Lieutenant?"
"Yes!"
"Charlotte..." I squeeze Shiro's hand in preparation for what's to come.
