Capítulo 13: The Zombie Apocalypse
In the fine morning, Kazuma did some exercises and sword training. After the exercise, he went to a tavern to eat something. When he reached there, he ordered a meal. While waiting for the meal on his table, he overheard something from the other people. They were talking about the zombies roaming about in the night. Kazuma was curious to hear more. Upon listening, he learned that some adventurers were already on it.
Then the meal arrived. Kazuma very slowly enjoyed the meal. After paying for the meal, he walked home. Kazuma began to feel bored, so he decided to do something. He wanted to do something other than adventuring this time. So he went to the guild to find recruitment notices for any other job. While searching for the same, he found a recruitment notice for the Smith work.
Kazuma accepted the smith's work, and he went to the smithing place. He got recruited for the job. Kazuma worked really hard at the Smith shop. Kazuma has the skill of a smith. In exchange for the work he had done, the smith offered to forge him a weapon and armor. Kazuma agreed to the same and assisted him in making the weapons and armor he needed. It took him another five days to completely forge them.
Kazuma finally got his Witcher sword and black-colored leather armor. He paid the cost of them. Kazuma was excited to wear them. He wore them and went out like that. It looked really good on him. He was walking through the market road. The road is full of people who are there to purchase their goods. Then suddenly, he happened to see a man falling to the ground. People around him asked him if he needed any help or something.
That man was sitting on his knees. He wasn't responding to their offers at all. Then suddenly, that man's eyes became pale white. People got scared of the look on his face and stepped away from him. All of a sudden, the man started growling like a rabid dog. People recognized him as a zombie and began to run from him. But that man was quick. He jumped into the crowd and caught an old man. While he was struggling to push it away, the old man got bitten on the neck.
Some of the kids got traumatized upon witnessing the same. Women were screaming. After attacking the old man, he was about to attack another person. People began running away from him. The only man standing there was Kazuma. The zombie man saw Kazuma and ran towards him. Kazuma remained calm and silent. He drew his sword from his sheath and faced the zombie. When he was just about to strike, Kazuma chopped off his head.
Then other adventurers popped in. The old man was lying on the ground. His neck is bleeding heavily. He was looking at the clear sky. He can feel it. All those memories flashed through his mind. He smiled at the blue sky. He took a long breath and, with a soft and clear voice, asked the adventurers around him to do it before it was too late. The adventurers hesitated. They were asking each other to do it.
But it was too late for the old man. He quickly turned into a zombie and was about to attack them. While Kazuma was still watching, they ganged upon and killed him. Kazuma felt very bad for that old man. Kazuma stood beside those dead bodies for some time until some mages arrived and burned their dead bodies. Kazuma walked home silently. He imagined himself in that position. It feels very horrible and hopeless to die like that.
Kazuma went to the guild to learn more about this incident.
Kazuma "Luna-san, Would you please explain what is going on here?"
A moment of silence
Luna "We strongly suspect that it must be the doing of a demon. Eyewitnesses say that she was wearing a mask and was lurking around the cemetery."
Kazuma with a narrowed eye "She... What's the color of her hair?"
Luna "Her hair? How is it going to help?"
Kazuma "I was just thinking if I could get any clue from it."
Luna "I don't think so. It is just ordinary brown."
Kazuma "Does she have equipment like the mages?"
Luna "No, she didn't have one."
Kazuma "What's the color of the robe she wears?"
Luna "Come on, Kazuma, why ask me such useless questions?"
Kazuma "Just answer it."
Luna "It was purple. That's what the witness says."
Kazuma with a disappointed look "Purple, huh... Sorry, I don't remember a mage wearing purple robes."
Luna "You asked me all these questions just to say that?"
Kazuma with a pitiful smile "I am sorry."
Luna let out a sign. "You know, Kazuma, you are really hopeless sometimes."
Kazuma smiled pitifully while scratching the back of his head.
Luna "Anyway, Kazuma, I strongly recommend not going to the cemetery. You may also end up like them."
Kazuma "Roger..."
Kazuma was sad that he couldn't do anything to help them. He reached home. He lay on his bed, thinking about those clues. He is sure that it must be Wiz who is doing all this. But he doesn't know where she is. He was thinking about his actions. He was sure that he didn't break the deal between them. He wondered why she was doing all this. So Kazuma decided to wait until dark to get to the cemetery so that he could find an answer to all this.
He went to sleep thinking about it. By evening, he woke up. He decided to refresh himself, so he went to the kitchen to make some coffee. Along the way to the kitchen, he found that all the rooms were a mess. Kazuma sensed something strange. He moved very slowly to the kitchen. When it was only 3 meters away from the kitchen doorway, a zombie popped out of the door. Without a second thought, the zombie rushed at him.
Kazuma while running "Ohh, sh*t, damn it."
When the zombie keeps up with Kazuma, "Holy sh*t, what the..."
He was cornered by that zombie. Kazuma unconsciously used his winter spirit magic to freeze it completely. Kazuma then punched its face, and the frozen zombie was crushed into pieces. He went upstairs. Midway through, another zombie appeared from behind the sofa.
Kazuma "Oh, come on, give me a break."
Kazuma ran up the stairs. It followed him. When he was about to get him, Kazuma threw a straight kick to his chest, and it rolled down those stairs. He reached his room and pulled out his sword. The zombie followed him. Just as he was about to be caught, Kazuma split its body into two by cutting it vertically. He was trying to catch his breath. Kazuma decided to face this with everything he had.
Then the guild announced the evacuation of the city, as it was infected with the zombie virus. Kazuma strongly believes that this must be due to Wiz. He put on his armor and sword and went out. The town was so quiet. There was no sign of people around. Kazuma moved forward with caution. Along the way, he encountered some zombies. He preferred to run to the front gate of the town by jumping from one building to another. Kazuma didn't hesitate to kill zombies that got in his way by throwing Kunai-shaped ice crystals at them.
Kazuma made it to the exit. The other adventurers were trying their best to defend the zombies. It was a war-like situation. He saw people attacked by zombies and turning into zombies. He hated this. He used his skill of freezing to freeze the zombies, slowing them down. The people are fleeing the city while the adventurers defend them. Kazuma pushed his way into the cemetery using the lurk skill. There, he met a lady mage with a unique mask who was surrounded by zombies. She was ordering them to attack all the people. It was clear that she was the one who was turning the people into zombies using her magic.
