As I looked at the pizza box and the scattered slices, a wave of disappointment washed over me. I couldn't eat them now; they'd been on the floor, and despite my hunger, I had standards. I sighed, feeling a pang of sadness at the wasted food.

I picked up the box, contemplating how quickly the moment of indulgence had turned into a mess. As I walked out of the room, the memory of the almost-intimate moment with Carmen replayed in my mind.

The way we had ended up so close, her breath mingling with mine—it was unexpected, intense, and, if I was honest with myself, kind of hot. The thought made my cheeks flush, and I shook my head to clear it. I shouldn't think about that but Carmen look so hot.

I needed to focus. This was a contractual marriage, not a romance. But that didn't stop my heart from racing whenever I thought about Carmen's piercing eyes looking into mine, her body so close to mine. Ugh, I needed to get a grip.
