"How do you feel?" Davian's low voice rumbled through him.

"Sleepy." Lake mumbled.

"You haven't had pancakes yet," Davian reminded him, but there was no urgency or judgment in his tone.

Lake's next response was unintelligible, his eyes drifting close with the taste of dark chocolate on the back of his tongue.

Davian held him till he was asleep, a worried frown on his face.

Doctor Perez wasn't supposed to be by for another week or two for the next checkup. The doctor would also bring with him the results of the first test.

But he would have the doctor come over the next morning before they had to go to the festival.

Davian was loathe to leave the bed, but he knew that Lake hated to waste food, so he got to his feet to deal with the rest of the pancakes. When he was done, he returned to the bedroom to find Lake stirring.

He leaned against the doorway to watch him, "How do you feel?"
