Capítulo 22: A Special Meeting (Part 1)

In the following days, the private security team was fully established, covering every area where people could sneak in during chaotic situations. To enhance their performance, defense areas were improved, which, according to Stuart, needed to be fenced off.

The wooden houses were increasing; Oscar's team was working as hard as their men could so that every family would have a home to settle into completely. Additionally, Nelson began contacting the right people, who, without hesitation, injected large amounts of money into what was needed for this place.

They had heard a lot about it; they wanted to go to another place, but Nelson convinced them that the site where the refuge he offered was studied to avoid the bombs that would be launched in the cities.

For Dominic, this was not a problem; at the end of the day, the more people, the better; it would be the way he would move in the future. There were two things necessary to consider from here to eleven years from now: one is to be invisible to large organizations and go unnoticed. The other, very different, is to aspire to greatness with the possibility of being affected by those same gigantic organizations.

Strong enemies made Dominic see the world differently, but he knew that if he wasn't extremely careful, he would end up sinking alone in the sea, and it wasn't like it was worth it.

But for now, the most important thing is to convince people that the virus was real; he had to prove that the undead existed, and for that, Dominic did a test with some gang members who were bothering a girl. According to his understanding, these people even tried to abuse a student a few days ago, and the police did nothing.

The perfect candidates for this demonstration are those kinds of people who don't deserve to live. Now, the most important thing is to demonstrate it in the refuge so that everyone believes.

"You have the two people in the cages for fifty thousand dollars, as promised. Remember, I don't give a damn what you do with them, but make sure to kill them, or I'll come for you."

Dominic looked at the van where two gang members were tied up and nodded. "Thanks for your services; you have ten thousand dollars extra for your punctuality."

"You know how to treat a friend well; call me if you need anything, brother," said the man of color, who bid farewell to Dominic as soon as he finished making the final arrangements.

Antonio, Dominic's uncle, who had prepared to escape the city, was finally invited by him to his refuge so that his whole family and men would be well taken care of. Obviously, they, except for Antonio, didn't have weapons; he had left the task of selecting new recruits to Stuart, and that's what he was doing until now.

"We should have done this shit ourselves; why let those idiot kids do our work?" For Antonio, spending sixty thousand dollars was complete madness.

Dominic said nothing; he was very familiar with this man, so knowing about his behavior was something he was very familiar with.

"Let's go for some burritos; I'm hungry."

"Wouldn't it be better to take them home as soon as possible?" Dominic looked at the two gang members tied up, knowing it wouldn't be smart to leave them in the van.

But Antonio was a man who sought, and he said, "If they get out, we kill them; we can look for more useless assholes like these elsewhere. If you think showing them that the shit happening in the world is real and will also work for something, you know it's a waste of time."

"The soldiers must know how to kill them, their functions, and their weaknesses. I prefer the people who will protect my things to be smart rather than a bunch of disoriented soldiers about the undead." Dominic entered a giant burrito restaurant along with Antonio.

Antonio ordered his burritos and said, "That's the problem; you shouldn't have trusted private security to take care of your things. If it goes wrong, they're going to fuck us hard; if it goes well, they'll be good assets, but they'll look out for their own safety."

"That's why you brought the explosives; that idea is better than burning all the containers. If they betray us, we'll all blow up like damn fireworks." Dominic also ordered his burritos. Eating these delicious meals was something that would rarely be possible in the future.

Antonio raised his eyebrows as if saying that was a good plan, even though he was somewhat unexpected in Dominic's plans. He was that black sheep that would keep things balanced.

His men, who were Mexicans, knew how to prepare good food but were idiots at shooting; the best they could do was maintain the weapons and vehicles. From that point on, everything was unnecessary to check; they were grateful as long as they had a place to sleep, and everything was transparent.

"Although revealing this information will ease things, everyone will feel even more nervous. Many will need good drugs to pass the time; do you accept that in the refuge?" Antonio respected the things that Dominic had been creating, since he knew much more.

As they left the restaurant, Dominic said, "I don't want junkies in my refuge; I need to maintain stability to avoid problems. But you'll take care of it, erase any annoyances, and we'll move forward."

"That's the way to talk, nephew; let's get out of this place before someone bites my ass." Antonio got into the driver's seat and accelerated towards the base, where they would do the demonstration.

Meanwhile, Dominic was reviewing the profiles of the doctors and nurses who would be selected. Everything was covered, so this was the last thing they needed to worry about.

For the most important objectives, now having the workforce, Dominic would send select teams to move them from one point to another. Security, above all, was something essential they needed to consider; if they left something unguarded, everything would change.

Furthermore, before everything collapsed, he needed a full-body medical check-up. If he had any conditions, he needed to know.
