Chapter 568: Threat from Adam

The battle at sea continued unabated. Within the Kingdom of Fenebotte, armies from the Southern Continent launched wave after wave of attacks. In the Forsak Empire, rebel forces unwilling to surrender their lands to the Loen Kingdom staged numerous uprisings.

In a church by the sea, Adam impassively consumed the potion to ascend to Sequence 0 Visionary.

The tide of the era He had created and awaited had finally arrived. It was time for Him to reclaim His divine throne and recover the authorities that rightfully belonged to Him.

...

In the Hall of Stars, as Hastur prepared to peer into the Storm abyss through Uloss's star, He suddenly noticed the stars representing the True Creator and Adam flaring brilliantly before quickly returning to normal.

When Hastur looked again, He could no longer discern Their current state through Their stars.

This meant Adam had ascended to godhood.

"Amon's journey to the Storm abyss must have been to help Adam distract the gods above, allowing Adam to ascend smoothly," Hastur quickly deduced. The siege on the Lord of Storms served two purposes: to truly capture the Lord of Storms and to provide cover for Adam.

Medici, the former Red Angel, had once again aided Adam.

Little did he know that Adam had already traded away his extraordinary characteristics.

Such was the fate of the blindly loyal.

Despite knowing not to trust in the mercy of gods lightly, the proud and flamboyant Red Angel had ultimately become a sacrifice to blind loyalty.

Hastur sighed in regret before turning His gaze to Uloss's star.

With Adam's ascension, the Lord of Storms, who had not yet returned to His divine kingdom, would likely be unable to do so today.

But would the everNight Goddess and the others truly stand by and watch the Lord of Storms fall today?

The initial barrier's cracks required the divine kingdoms' help to suppress and repair. With one War God already fallen and the Eternal Blazing Sun in poor condition, the situation would only worsen if the Lord of Storms fell as well.

Hmm, trading one Lord of Storms for one Adam seemed like a reasonable deal.

As Hastur's gaze swept across the hall, He saw the Avatar of the Primordial Hunger standing alone before the great hall of the Church of the Yellow God, looking up at the starry sky and uttering a phrase.

Hastur couldn't hear clearly and found it strange. Who was the Primordial Hunger talking to?

He focused His gaze again, and this time He heard clearly. The Primordial Hunger had said the words "Run quickly."

Run quickly?

Who was supposed to run?

Was He talking to himself?

Why should He flee?

"Something feels off," Hastur thought silently. His gaze turned to fix intently on Adam's star. The impenetrable star now gave Him an ominous feeling.

His spirituality was warning Him. It had been a long time since He'd felt this uneasy.

"Could it be Adam?!"

Hastur's scalp tingled. Without further hesitation, He immediately left the Hall of Stars and returned to the real world. He glanced at Sharon, who was guarding Him, but had no time to explain. He entered the spirit world alone while summoning Gregory to come to His aid.

Just as Hastur entered the spirit world, the newly ascended Adam arrived at the ancient castle in South Wales, accompanied by the fallen Avatar of the High-Dimensional Overseer. They glanced around before following into the spirit world.

In the spirit world, Hastur moved swiftly with a grim expression. His Errorless ability allowed Him to appear outside Gregory's divine kingdom the moment He entered the spirit world.

He couldn't directly force His way into Gregory's divine kingdom, as it was protected against intrusion. His Errorless ability couldn't simply ignore a deity's power.

Fortunately, He already saw the massive Primordial Phoenix Ancestor flapping its wings as it emerged from the depths of its divine kingdom.

A torrent of raging flames spewed from Gregory's mouth, burning towards the area behind Hastur.

Adam and the High-Dimensional Overseer revealed themselves from within the flames.

They really were coming for Him!

Hastur used His Errorless ability again, entering Gregory's divine kingdom and standing under the protection of the Primordial Phoenix Ancestor's massive fiery wings.

Although He had left some contingencies in the Hall of Stars, seeing the newly ascended Adam appear together with the High-Dimensional Overseer still filled Hastur with a sense of dread.

If He hadn't decisively left the Hall of Stars at that moment, Adam and the High-Dimensional Overseer would surely have been waiting for Him in the castle.

In that case, His situation would have been just like Klein's when he encountered Amon.

He truly hadn't expected Adam's first act upon ascending to godhood would be to seek Him out, rather than pursuing the Lord of Storms to reclaim His rightful authorities.

If not for the Primordial Hunger's warning and His own spiritual premonition, He would certainly have been cornered in the castle by Adam and the High-Dimensional Overseer.

"You ran quite fast," the High-Dimensional Overseer said with a smile. "Can the stars truly observe everything?"

His words carried no respect, only a faint mockery.

Hastur simply looked at Adam and the High-Dimensional Overseer without speaking. Their collusion had shown signs long ago.

The High-Dimensional Overseer's attitude towards Adam was clearly different from His attitude towards Amon, and He had often sought opportunities to chat with Adam in the church.

They must have conspired together during those times, but why would Adam cooperate with the High-Dimensional Overseer, and what was His goal?

"Many questions?" The High-Dimensional Overseer seemed to be in a good mood. "I too have many unanswered questions."

"Adam, are you ready to show your true colors?" Hastur asked, looking only at Adam.

"There's no need for too many variables. You should return to the stars, not remain here," Adam said calmly. "Entrusting your safety to others is a very dangerous thing."

"The Lord of Storms can be dealt with at any time, but you're different."

"The stars, an existence that has never appeared before, shouldn't exist now either."

"You shouldn't exist. You're out of place in this world."

Adam had said much, but it all boiled down to one point: Hastur posed too great a threat for Him to ignore.

As the former Ancient Sun God, He would never tolerate the continued existence of someone who could summon Outer Gods and Elder Gods at any time.

Just as a country's king would never allow someone capable of detonating nuclear weapons to live, unless the nuclear launch codes were in his own hands.

Before ascending to godhood, Adam had still harbored some reservations, but now He had become a god.

"It seems I shouldn't have made that deal with you," Hastur said coldly.

"Indeed, you shouldn't have. It was a very foolish act," Adam replied calmly. "I told you, your humanity would ultimately be your downfall."

Hastur remained silent. In this matter, He had indeed erred. He had overestimated Adam's character and underestimated His own importance.

That portion of the Author's extraordinary characteristic should not have been given away, at least not until He Himself had ascended to godhood.

People must pay for their own foolishness; this saying was absolutely correct.

"Aren't you worried I'll summon Outer Gods and Elder Gods through the initial barrier, bringing about an early apocalypse?" Hastur asked.

"I've said it before: your humanity is your most fatal weakness," Adam replied calmly. "Do you know why I never let Amon push you to your limits? Because only when the people and things you care about still exist will you hesitate and become mired in the quagmire of humanity."

Another piece of sage advice.

Hastur's lips curled in a mocking smile. His path had been too smooth lately, causing Him to unknowingly lower His guard, believing everything was under His control.

He never expected to be the prey caught in a carefully laid trap.

"What an interesting lesson," Hastur chuckled. "I think you overestimate my humanity. When my life is threatened, I don't mind letting everyone else feel the same fear I do."

"I believe your words, which is why I won't give you that chance."

"Your greatest reliance is the Primordial Phoenix, the current Death God," Adam said, looking up at the Primordial Phoenix Ancestor spreading its wings to protect Hastur. "Unfortunately, everything here is my imagination, created after you entered the spirit world."

As Adam finished speaking, the Primordial Phoenix Ancestor Gregory and Her divine kingdom protecting Hastur dissipated into nothingness.

"Now, that Primordial Phoenix Ancestor's fate is the same as yours. The everNight Goddess has been waiting for this opportunity for a long time."
