Capítulo 16: New Issue Sales

At this moment, little Yuuki was sitting in the back seat of the car.

(# ̄~ ̄#)

With her arms crossed over her chest and her lips pouted, she displayed a clear expression of anger.

She thought her daddy was too mean!

He scared her, and not only did he scare her, he lied to her after scaring her!

And the worst part was that he wasn't even trying to comfort her now! What kind of daddy was he!

Yuuki was very angry, and the consequences were serious. She puffed up and declared, "Daddy, you're going to lose your precious baby if you keep this up!"

Through the rearview mirror, Ren saw Yuuki's puffed-up angry face and immediately knew what she was thinking, sighing to himself.

She was still thinking about how he had scared her at the school gate.

"I already said sorry, didn't I? Who knew you were so timid, Yueyue," Ren said.

"!!"

Children are quite prideful, and upon hearing her daddy call her timid, Yuuki got upset in an instant. She smacked the back seat unhappily and said, "Daddy's a big meanie! Yueyue is not timid at all!!! Waaa~~"

As she spoke, her eyes began to turn red, and she put her little hands over her eyes, looking like she was about to cry any second.

Seeing this, Ren couldn't stand it.

He was a man who couldn't bear to see his own child cry, so he quickly spoke up, "Sorry, sorry, daddy was wrong. I'll make you daddy's special dish soon!"

"Really?" As soon as Ren's words fell, the little girl who looked like she was about to cry lowered her hands, her face brightening with surprise – no sign of tears at all.

"..."

Ren was baffled by the little girl's antics. Was this child already using her feminine wiles?

But since he had already promised, he couldn't go back on his word, so he nodded helplessly and said, "Really, daddy wouldn't lie to Yueyue."

"Mmm!" Yuuki, satisfied with the response, nodded her head and then sat back, swinging her little feet and humming the theme song of Magical Girl.

However, as the car passed by a bookstore, he suddenly stopped.

If he remembered correctly, today was the day his wife's company released their new comic issue. Why not buy one and see how the sales are going?

Thinking this, Ren turned to Yuuki and said, "Yueyue, let's get out and buy a comic from mommy's company."

"Oh~~"

The little girl, buoyed by the promise from Ren, readily agreed. They headed to the bookstore together.

Once there, Ren made a beeline for the comic section.

At this large bookstore's comic area, Picca Comics seemed to have not sold many copies, while the neighboring comics had sold more than half.

"Can it be?" Ren felt a pang of anxiety.

Just then, he heard footsteps and turned to see a group of high school girls approaching the comic section.

A lightbulb went off in Ren's mind, and he leaned down to whisper in Yuuki's ear.

"Wow!" Yuuki's eyes lit up immediately, nodding eagerly, "Yes, yes!"

...

The Book Mountain Roaming Bookstore was the largest bookstore in Poetry City.

This store sold comics, books, and magazines from all over the country, and even the most niche books could be ordered here, making it a favorite spot for many book lovers.

At this moment, Claire and her friends had come to the bookstore because today was the release day for the new issue of their favorite manga magazine.

"Speaking of which, Claire, what magazine are you buying today? You're not still buying Picca Comics, are you?" a short-haired girl asked. "Picca Comics has been bad lately, several issues in a row haven't had good comics. You're just wasting money buying them."

The short-haired girl knew her friend liked Picca Comics; she used to borrow them often, but with recent turbulence in the comic industry and Picca losing many of its artists, there weren't many good artists left. She didn't want her friend wasting money on those comics anymore.

Why not buy a magazine from one of the top five publishers and swap reads?

"Mmm... not buying anymore." Claire nodded silently.

Honestly, she had been a loyal reader of Picca Comics, buying every issue. She liked the comics because of their fluid style and beautiful artwork.

Especially the series by the artist who couldn't sing on tune; it was particularly soothing to read.

Unfortunately, since the top artists had been poached, she had initially held hopes of seeing good comics, but several issues had passed without a standout comic.

While they weren't unreadable, without compelling content, buying them felt a bit dull.

"Daddy, daddy, this comic is so fun!!!" Just then, a sweet child's voice reached Claire's ears, causing her to instinctively look in the direction of the sound.

She saw a father and daughter approaching from the comic area. The cute little girl, holding her father's hand and looking up at him as they walked, continued to talk excitedly, "And the drawings are so pretty!!"

"Yeah." The father was also smiling happily, flipping through a comic book in his hand: "I thought it would be the last time buying Picca Comics, but it turns out Picca Comics has made a comeback with this issue. I think it could outshine the other comics this period, and the poster alone made it worth the buy."

Picca Comics?

Hearing the father's words, Claire's body paused slightly as she walked.

Curiosity arose in her heart, and she quickly headed to the comic section with her friend, directly to where Picca Comics were located.

"Hey, Claire, are you still buying?" the short-haired girl asked, seeing her heading there.

"Not buying, just looking." Claire replied as she arrived and looked up at the ceiling, where a poster was hanging.

A high school boy and girl were looking back at each other on a staircase, with the comic's name—"Your Name"—at the top.

Indeed, as the father and daughter had said, it was beautifully drawn.

"Hey, this poster looks pretty good," the short-haired girl followed her friend to the Picca Comics section, pausing as she looked at the hanging poster: "But I've never heard of this artist, Porter. Maybe it's just the art that's good, let's still buy from the top five."

"..." Claire fell silent for a moment, thinking of the happy expression on the father and daughter's faces earlier, which couldn't have been faked.

After a moment's hesitation, she bit her lip, "I'll buy one last issue! If it's not good, I definitely won't buy it again!"

After all, her parents bought her anything she wanted directly, so she didn't have much pocket money. Buying a comic book every week was already a big expense.

If this issue was not up to par, she wouldn't waste more money on it.
