Fatigue, exhaustion, doubt, relief, adrenaline, fear, uncertainty, and insecurity—all kinds of emotions occupied spaces in the minds of each of the four team members. While they stood there, motionless for nearly 2 full minutes after attending to Joane's condition, the distant sounds never diminished.

Indeed, the pandemonium drew closer, albeit slowly. Sooner or later, they would be caught, even though it occasionally seemed that the pursuing entity altered its trajectory due to the sounds of battle against the nocturnal inhabitants emerging from their daytime hibernation.
