Dandi reached out to lift the lid of the box, but his fingers met only air.
The box flickered like a mirage, vanishing the moment he touched it.
“An illusion…” he muttered, frowning.
Takeuchi stepped back, scanning the room. "Fortunately for us, it wasn’t a trap."
Just then, the room began to shift.
The walls folded in on themselves, gears and chains grinding in hidden recesses as the floor vibrated beneath their feet.
The torches lining the walls flared to life, illuminating the chamber in a flickering, almost ominous glow.
“Everyone, stay alert,” Dandi warned, his gaze fixed on the surroundings.
From a corner of the room, a narrow section of the floor suddenly slid back, revealing a pit lined with jagged spikes.
The pit wasn’t wide, but its opening was perfectly timed, appearing just as Hancock took a step forward.
She gasped, stumbling back just in time as the pit snapped shut, hiding the deadly trap beneath a smooth stone surface.
