Title - Spending Time with the Eternals
...
Leucadius stood amongst the Eternals, their initial hostility now replaced by a tentative curiosity. The group was still on high alert, but the tension had eased slightly as they began to process his revelations.
As the tension in the air slowly dissipated, Leucadius found himself reluctantly welcomed into the Eternals' midst. The days that followed were marked by a cautious truce.
The Eternals, wary of Leucadius but driven by an insatiable curiosity, decided to keep him close, hoping to uncover the truths he kept so closely guarded.
Leucadius on the other hand didn't mind this and stuck with them despite their glares. "How long do you guys plan on staying here?" Leucadius asked as he looked around their encampment.
"We had just finished clearing out the Deviants in the area. We still plan on sticking around for a few years just to be sure." Ajak said, surprising the others as they didn't expect her to reveal such information to them.
"Hmm, then I guess I'll be taking a vacation too then." Leucadius said and stretched lazily before turning to Phastos. "Could you build me a similar tent to the ones you all are using?"
"..." Phastos just looked at him before ignoring him and walking away. "Wha- how rude." Leucadius said
"You did say you were God right? Why can't you build one for yourself?" Thena said mockingly. "Moreover, if you really did build a thing or two with Phastos, constructing something like this should be child's play, right?"
"Hmm. True, but I fear doing that would reveal my current location to a few unsavory people." Leucadius replied with a sad sigh. The thought of some minor Gods coming over to tell him that he broke a rule of two didn't sit well with him.
"Tch." Thena immediately clicked her tongue in disappointment before ignoring him too.
"Oye!" Leucadius cried out aggrievedly. 'Hmm. That reminds me, humans should be able to use the most basic forms of magic right? I'd just have to convert my Holy Energy into mystical energy and…'
As Leucadius thought this, he immediately put it into action and carelessly stomped his foot on the ground with a bit of golden white energy. Immediately, a small building rose and stood in front of him.
"Hmm, it did work." He muttered before throwing a smug look at Thena and Phastos. Thena just snorted while Phastos didn't even give him a glance in return. 'Tsk.'
Over the next few days, Leucadius integrated himself into the Eternals' daily routines. First off, he trained with Thena whenever he got the chance. Which was every time since Thena was basically always training when she wasn't doing Eternal business.
It all started with Thena directly ignoring him whenever he came around her training area. He'd just lie around and say things randomly while she slashed or stabbed her imaginary enemies.
"Argh! What's your problem!?" Thena who finally couldn't stand it shouted angrily while throwing a couple daggers at Leucadius who waved his hands to redirect them to the side.
"What? I'm just pointing out your mistakes." He said
"Huh!? Who told you they were mistakes?"
"Eh? They're obviously mistakes. Those moves use maximum effort from your side but have minimal damage to it. It's inefficient in a fight against an experienced warrior." Leucadius said.
"And how would you know that?"
"Hah." Leucadius sighed. "As I have told you times without numbers, I am an Eternal. A very old one. I have had my fair share of battles with real and mentally sound beings that could snuff you out of existence with nothing but a serious punch."
"...Are you doing that thing again?" Thena glared at Leucadius and asked while flaring her energy.
"Wha-what thing?" Leucadius asked in confusion.
"That thing where you say something with double meanings?"
"What do you mean?" Leucadius asked again, this time, genuinely confused.
"You words just now…you are indirectly telling me that the reason why I don't see the mistakes in my techniques is because I've been fighting mindless beasts." Thena said seriously.
"...As expected, you didn't get foolish during the time we've been apart." Leucadius said with a relieved smile only to sidestep in a flash as a sword slash flashed where he once stood.
"You shouldn't be unnecessarily violent. A wise man once said; Only a Fool rejects counsel." Leucadius said with a Sagely smile. "Oh wait. I am the wise man. Tsk."
'The man who will say it hasn't been born yet…who was it again? Solomon? Heh, I can't remember. Let them claim the credit when they say it.' he thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Thena was still slashing her sword horizontally and vertically trying to cut Leucadius apart but similar to their first battle days ago, Leucadius moved as though he could see the future.
"You..! Is that your ability?" Thena asked as she jumped back to catch her breath.
"My ability? I have an ability I didn't know about?" Leucadius tilted his head and asked.
"How do you move that way?" She asked angrily and conjured a second sword in her left hand before resuming her assault.
"Come now, I could close my eyes and still won't be hit by your swords." Leucadius said casually as he continued to dodge. At one point, he even yawned leaving himself wide open, yet, she wasn't able to land a hit.
"Then why don't you stay still!?" Thena retorted
"Oh? Alright." Leucadius said and stood still while erecting a barrier around himself. "Try hitting me once again." He smiled, this time a bit similar to the one he used when sparring with Halaliel.
Seeing his almost sinister looking smile, a cold chill passed by Thena but she just ignored it and went for the attack. Leucadius' smile grew as he saw her coming with full speed, and while Thena felt that something was wrong, she just chucked it up to her unfamiliarity with him.
To her dismay however, as soon as her attack landed on the barrier, a force two times her own was reflected back to her, sending her flying. Thankfully, she was a seasoned fighter so she quickly got control of her body mid air.
Despite that, she could mitigate the force behind the reflected attack and continued flying backwards. When she came to a halt, the pain from the rebound finally hit her, causing her to fall to her knees while vomiting blood from her eyes and nose.
"Damn…you became weak." Was all Leucadius said.
…
The noise from their clash drew the attention of the other Eternals who quickly arrived on the scene, and upon seeing the pitiful state of Thena, all became enraged and charged at Leucadius.
The most enraged of them all was Gilgamesh whom Leucadius saw as a minor version of Shiva. The fight didn't get intense however, since Thena quickly recovered and explained the situation to her family.
After that, showing her advanced techniques and helping her refine her combat skills became Leucadius' pass time event. Despite her initial reluctance, she found herself respecting his prowess and knowledge.
As for Phastos, he and Leucadius spent little time together, mostly in his workshop, exchanging ideas and collaborating on new inventions. Most of the things that will exist haven't been invented yet, so just pointing out a few things in advance was appreciated…not.
To Leucadius, the fucker that was Phastos basically had an ego that would make even the most enduring human want to kill him. It was understandable though. He was a Technopath, knowledge on technology came easily to him.
If not because Leucadius offered him the Motherbox to study, he wouldn't have even allowed him into his workshop.
Despite this, Leucadius was patient with him. Phastos would come around in due time. That much he was sure. Leucadius also knew of the traumatic event that would befall him due to the Hiroshima event.
…
Phastos, although amazed by Leucadius' deep understanding of cosmic energy and technology, didn't warm up to him immediately.
Time however allowed the two to develop a camaraderie based on mutual respect.
However, Ajak never really allowed them to share their knowledge of technology to the Humans, an action that continuously peeved Phastos. Leucadius on the other hand understood why she made that call.
He'd done the same thing to the Tower of Babel a few years ago after all. Humans having knowledge they shouldn't have when they shouldn't have it was a disaster.
It was similar to the case of; If you give a man a fish, you'd feed him for a day, but if you teach him how to fish, you'll feed him for a lifetime.
In this case, giving them this knowledge when they hadn't even learnt how to treat their fellow humans would just make them go down a path of chaos.
In this regard, Leucadius and Ajak were in total mutual agreement much to Phastos disappointment. "Then why invent all these in the first place?" He asked Leucadius who was smiling at his sullen expression.
"Don't you think it's interesting?"
"What is?"
"Creating stuff. Invention and Innovation of already existing Inventions." Leucadius said and shook his head. "I don't blame you though. You are programmed to see to the advancement of Humanity so you'll have this drive to share your inventions."
"Here you go saying things like this again. I'll have you know that not even Druig found anything wrong with my mind." Phastos said with a tired sigh and went to take a seat at his workstation.
'It would be weird if he could.' Leucadius thought. "Just think of it this way. Keep on creating and waiting till you feel that humans can't do without new technology."
"Isn't that the case now?" Phastos asked.
"Nope, it's not. Don't forget that before we were Eternals, we were once humans. If we all could reach this stage, they too can reach it." Leucadius said and stood up to leave the little Domain Phastos created as his workshop.
…
Sersi…she was the peacemaker of the group. Leucadius didn't have much of an interaction with her since she was just too nice for him. He thought of even introducing her to Gabriel, but decided against it.
The sight of two overly beautiful, kind, gentle and nice women was just too much for him.
Sersi however, always took it upon herself to learn more about Leucadius' past. They spent time exploring cities in their vicinity. Since Leucadius could open a portal to wherever, he was a viable means of transportation to whoever was bold enough to ask.
And Sersi was just too bold and then there was Leucadius who couldn't really say no to that pure innocent smile she flashed at him.
During their short travels, they always ended up discussing the history of the place they found themselves, with Leucadius on the speaking side while she listened attentively.
To Leucadius, all these were things she should know but since she doesn't, there was no harm in telling her. Leucadius' stories filled in gaps in her knowledge, giving her a deeper understanding of Humans and their cultures.
Druig, initially hostile due to the first impression Leucadius had on him, found common ground with Leucadius in their ability to influence minds. They debated ethics and the responsibility that came with their powers.
Druig had such an optimistic view on humanity that Leucadius could only smile and keep silent. The Eternals were just too young and naive at this point in time.
Leucadius felt he made the right choice in deciding to meet up with them now. After all, with the coming years, they would see the vile and evil sides of humanity and come to lose their faith in them.
Druig most especially.
…
Ikaris remained distant but observant of Leucadius' every action. He sparred with Leucadius several times, each bout ending in a draw.
Leucadius knew his type. The ones filled with pride, so while pretending to be going all out, he made sure to limit himself to Ikaris power level.
And due to that, though he didn't fully trust Leucadius, he couldn't deny the newcomer's skill and knowledge when it came to fighting.
Gilgamesh and Sprite, though wary, also gradually warmed up to him as well. Gilgamesh appreciated Leucadius' straightforwardness and strength, while Sprite was fascinated by his stories and the possibilities he opened up for her when it came to her abilities.
As the days turned into weeks and weeks to months, the Eternals began to see Leucadius in a different light. Not as a threat, but as an ally. He had proven it with his interaction with them, and though there were still many questions left unanswered, they felt it wouldn't be much of a problem.
One evening, as they gathered around a campfire, Leucadius looked around at the group. "I think this short vacation of mine will soon be coming to an end."
The Eternals all paused for a brief moment before continuing with what they were doing. "Did something happen? You did mention that you were God." Ajak asked.
"Hmm." Leucadius nodded. "To my chosen people, I am the one True God, to others I am a God."
"Hmm. I seem to understand, yet I don't." Thena said as she chewed on her meat.
"Just know that there exists numerous godly civilizations that live in pocket dimensions closely connected to Earth." Leucadius said and looked up at the stars and began to explain the makeup of the universe to them.
"So along with Odin, you are a God King of a pantheon situated on the World Tree?" Ikaris asked
"Yup. I'm pretty cool right? Thena, want to go back home with me?"
"Why would I want to go back home with you?" She asked, taking a momentary break from the chunk of meat she was eating.
"You don't wanna see a group of warrior women?" Leucadius sighed sadly but asked nonetheless.
"Hmm. Intriguing, but not now. Perhaps after our mission comes to an end." She said after giving it a bit of thought. "The Asgardians as you called them also have a group like that right? What did you call them again?"
"The Valkyrie. Fierce women led by Odin's daughter Hela." Leucadius replied.
"You still haven't answered my question though." Ajak suddenly cut in. "Did anything happen?"
"Nah, not really. One of the children of the man I made a promise to has just been sold to slavery in Egypt. I plan on going to watch him." Leucadius replied with an endearing smile.
"You do love your people, eh?"
"Of course. As God, my word is my bond and I made a promise. I intend to keep it until the end of time." Leucadius said with conviction.
"That's admirable. Are all Gods like you?" Sersi asked
Leucadius sniggered at the question. "Remember how you treated me when we first met?" Leucadius asked her and she nodded. "If you see anyone that calls himself God, start off in that same manner."
"Eh? Isn't that…a bit rude?" Sprite asked while peeling off the back of an Apple.
Leucadius snorted, "So you know?"
"Eh? Ah…sorry about that. You just came out of nowhere and attacked our leader." She said apologetically.
"What do you mean 'attacked your leader? She was the one who attacked first. Anyways, always start off like that. If they intend to kill you off without explaining themselves, then they're bad. If they respect themselves and you, then they're good."
"That's…a weird way of judging people."
"Nope, it's not. They're Gods. Immortal Existences. If you think you're prideful, wait till you meet them."
The Eternals nodded to that before they continued chatting away.
Deep into the night, Leucadius smiled, the warmth of their acceptance filling him with a renewed sense of purpose. "Thank you."
"Why are you thanking us?"
"I dunno. I've just missed this level of company. It's tiring to be King and God at the same time, worst of all, to be immortal on top of that." Leucadius complained.
"I don't understand you as much as you understand yourself, but the only thing I can say is…similar to how the advancement of human civilization is our responsibility, perhaps leading your people is yours too." Makkari, who was always silent, opened her mouth and made some inaudible sounds, however, Leucadius understood them perfectly well.
"I know, and I'm glad." Leucadius said. He was the one who decided to be God and King of Heaven, with that decision made, there was no going back.
He looked at Makkari for a few seconds before sighing and shaking his head. "Don't forget what I have taught you. Speed is important but understanding of speed will take you to the next step."
Prior to their kidnapping, Makkari was someone who tried to reach a level of speed unseen amongst her people by channeling all her Cosmic Energy into improving her speed.
Due to that action, she lost her ability to speak. Leucadius didn't understand how that was possible, but since her speed was impeding her voice wouldn't cutting off her speed bring back her voice?
However doing this might cause her more harm than good, so he could only shake his head regretfully.
'It's not like we were even close.' he thought to himself as consolation.
As the night wore on, the Eternals shared stories, laughter, and plans for the future. They were a family once more, ready to face the unknown with courage and determination.
And for the first time in millennia, Leucadius felt truly at home.
