VALENCIA'S POV
What was I doing here?
Trying to see if this window sill was strong enough? How much height was I really standing at? Trying to breathe fresh air? Just looking at the forests and trying to hear the birds chirping?
I went through all the answers that I could give to the people standing behind me, but nothing seemed worthy of believing even to me, let alone the audit team from the pack of the dangerous alpha.
"Cia! What are you doing here?! Shouldn't you be in the class at this time? Wait... It was indeed you, no? You brought the cat to the University again! I swear you will be the death of me," The Dean's angry voice came behind me.
An idea immediately appeared in my head, and I couldn't thank my dean enough.
"I... I didn't bring her this time," I said in a defensive tone, and the dean scoffed.
"You, naughty brat, even if you didn't bring the cat, I am sure she came here looking for you again," The dean said, and I smiled, grateful that they forgot about my actions earlier.
"Go back to your class. We will discuss this later," The dean said, and I nodded towards him, my back still to them as I clenched my backpack in hand and turned around to walk, ensuring my hair hid my face.
Thank god, my dean scolded me right at the time and saved me from some confrontations. I wondered thankfully, but my moment of joy was cut short. Before I could take another step, I heard his voice again.
"I am not done yet. Stand here," The man said.
I gritted my teeth, turning my head and facing the man finally.
I noticed how his pupils dilated a little.
'Does he recognize something?' Aurora asked me as if I could read his thoughts well.
Who knows? I told her before looking directly into his eyes, the look of recognition, a bit too clear.
'What do you think? How many days will we survive after being caught like this?' I asked my fake-wolf.
'Days? How about we bet on hours?' Aurora asked and I smiled bitterly.
Thank you for the motivation and moral support. I totally feel relaxed now. I wanted to say to my wolf sarcastically.
"I would like to talk to her alone," The man said, and the dean looked at me with a stern expression.
"Behave," He said before leaving.
What was with people telling me to behave today? They were acting like I was the naughtiest person alive on earth. I scowled inwardly before looking back at the man in front of me.
I was so gone. He probably recognized that I am the rogue werewolf, and that's why he wants the dean, who is a human, out of the area so he can talk to me, more like imprison me and take me back to their pack to punish or at worst execute me.
Huh... If there is no other way, and I am going to die either way, I am not going to do it like a coward.
I have had enough people treating me like I am someone lower to them just because I don't have a wolf. Taking a deep breath, I looked back at the man, a bit too confident this time.
Judging from his dominating aura, there was no doubt he was probably the beta of the pack.
"What are you doing here?" He asked me, and I quirked my brows.
Out of all the questions, this was the least expected thing I thought he would ask me.
From what I heard about their pack's adventures with rogues, I am sure this isn't the first thing they ask the rogue. And where was their dagger that should have already been on my neck?
"What do you mean?" I asked, wanting them to say the word first.
"You don't know what I mean?" He stepped forward, invading my privacy, and I looked up at him with his blazing-hot eyes full of confusion.
"Do you know who I am?" I asked, and the man in front of me scoffed.
"Are you testing me, girl?" He asked, his eyes darkening a little, his deep voice exerting his dominance, and I gulped as a shiver ran down my spine.
If the beta of this pack was so good and Powerful, just how powerful would their alpha be? I shook my head at the mere thought. I wouldn't want to meet that monster ever.
"Are you talking about something that starts with W?" I asked, and a smirk appeared on his face.
"Yes," He said, probably finding my situation funny.
Heck, even I find my situation funny.
"I would like to speak to your A in that matter," I whispered, almost cooing, and he raised his brows at me.
Yes. That was my newly formed plan. Just take me out of here, and while we would be on our way, I would jump out of the car, change into my cat, and run far away.
"To my A?" He asked, and I moved my hands softly so he could bring his face close to mine, and though there was a confused look on his face, he complied nonetheless.
"Your superior. You know, the one who runs your Pack," I whispered, and he paused for a brief second, turning his head to look at me as if I was some kind of alien that he was trying to figure out.
"Our alpha?" He asked, and I nodded with a small cunning smile.
"Interesting," He said.
"What is a she-wolf like you doing here in the first place?" The man asked casually, using those forbidden words carefree.
"For a law-abiding pack, does your alpha know his people go around saying these forbidden words in the human territories?" I asked, raising my brows when something caught my attention.
Wait. Why did he call me a she-wolf and not a rogue? Does their pack have a soft spot for the females? No. That can't be the case.
'It's because of the pendant you are wearing stupid. It's not easy for the other wolves to even know you are a she-wolf. This beta must be really powerful and on par with other alphas to be able to smell you,' Aurora explained.
I hummed. Right. How could I forget about it?
But what was I doing here? I don't even know how much they know about me, or if they are here, particularly for the rogue. I bit my lips anxiously when I received the call from the number that I had been dialing for so long.
A relieved sigh escaped my lips, and I looked at the beta of their pack.
"Excuse me," I said before picking up Dylan's call.
"Hello," I said.
"Who is it?" Dylan asked, and the little strain I had on my emotions felt slipping immediately.
If he hadn't called me so soon, I would've almost lost my sh*t.
"Dylan, it's me," I said, my voice soft because I was sure those people could clearly hear me.
"You finally called me after all this time of telling you that this was the better way of communication?" Dylan asked, chucking at the end of his sentence.
"Dad! It's Val!" Dylan shouted on the other end, probably to call Uncle Jonathan, and a smile immediately appeared on my face.
"I am in a bit of an issue here. The subordinates of the neighboring pack came to the University to do some kind of audit, and the beta is asking me what a person like me is doing here," I asked, ensuring my voice was only loud enough for those people to hear.
There was silence on the other hand for some time, and I turned to look at the beta and his men, his stance making me gulp.
"Are you scared, baby?" Dylan asked, and a blush crept up my neck when I saw the man in front of me quirking his brows, probably hearing Dylan's words.
"Shut up, will you? What I want to know is what am I supposed to tell them?" I asked Dylan, who just sighed and asked me to give the phone to the beta of the pack.
"Here," I walked to him.
He looked at the phone in my hand before taking it and placing it near his ears casually.
"Hmm,"
"For what?"
"Research?"
"Okay," the man said before he gave the phone back to me, and I noticed the call was still going on.
"Is there anything else?" I asked, and Dylan sighed.
"Stay safe, princess. I will bring you back to keep you safe in my arms forever. Just wait for me for some more time," Dylan said, and I sighed, not saying anything.
"I will call you later," I whispered before ending the call and looking at the beta of the pack.
"Is the confusion clear?" I asked, and the man hummed.
Keep commenting to let me know how you like this book so far. Love you all and your constant support.
ALPHA MAVERICK'S POV
I never expected what was happening right now.
When I heard about the rogue who was studying at the University and breaking human laws, I had never guessed I would meet this beautiful girl here.
It amazed me, the way her hair flailed, her lavender smell wafting through my nostrils as soon as she turned to look at me with a sheepish smile, I don't think I would be able to get that image out of my head anytime soon.
I didn't know I had it in me to find a she-wolf cute. I always found them annoying because most of the unmated she-wolves would throw themselves at me since everyone knew I got rejected by my mate and was available.
I didn't particularly hate she-wolves, they just got on my nerves easily, but...this damned girl in front of me took my breath away.
"Cia! What are you doing here?! You brought the cat to the University again!" The dean scolded her as she looked down at her feet, making a circle with her toes while smiling, which made me smirk involuntarily.
So she was the naughtiest student that the dean was talking about.
But nothing was adding to the equation. She was a she-wolf for sure. She was definitely not a rogue because she didn't have that after-burned smell. Then what was she doing here? Didn't the council intel say it was a rogue who was hiding here?
An even stranger question was, why wasn't I able to smell her properly? Her scent was so faint that I wouldn't have been able to smell it if I wasn't concentrating so hard to catch the rogue.
And her wolf... Why the hell was I not able to feel anything around her or the type of rank she was? What kind of sorcery was this?
I thought I was the only one who couldn't guess her rank, but when she said she would like to talk to our alpha, I could see that she couldn't figure out my rank either.
Quite interesting, I must add.
No matter what kind of rank or wolf you are, you can easily distinguish an Alpha because of its dominating presence. Was she not affected by my presence?
I was ready to hear all kinds of answers and explanations from her, loving the way her eyes were so full of expressions and emotions.
However, I hadn't expected her to receive a call from none other than the council head's son. It wasn't hard for me to guess his voice.
It was peculiar and unnerving how the way the council head's son was calling her so softly was bothering me. It didn't make any sense.
Yes, we do have second-chance mates in our species if our mate dies or something, but a particular someone who knew a lot about these celestial and destiny-related things clearly told me that I only had one true mate in this lifetime. Besides, if she was really my second-chance mate, I would've felt it in my bones.
So there was no way this girl was my second chance mate. And the more I looked at her, the more she intrigued me.
What kind of bewitching powers was she really holding?
The council's head's son said that she was there for research purposes because they didn't want the research to take place in any werewolf University where she would be interrupted quite a lot.
I agreed with him at that moment and noticed how confident she was immediately after the call.
"Sir, are we done? Should we go and check further?" Shadow asked me, and I hummed as the dean returned to show us the area.
"Go back to the class, Cia," The dean said to the girl, making her nod and run away as if she was afraid I would eat her alive.
"Let's go," I said.
Shadow looked at me, and I knew he had many questions, making me sigh.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Why are we still checking, sir? Could it be that there was a mistake or misunderstanding in the council? If a member sent by them is staying here for so long, how is it possible that she also never countered the rogue?" Shadow said, and I hummed.
He made a valid point. Should we stop wasting our time here and just confirm this with the council?
'I want to see her more,' Reaper said at once, and I raised my eyebrows at my wolf who was being quite wishful today.
'You do realize you are acting like a spoiled kid today, right?' I asked Reaper, who just scoffed back at me, going back to his alpha attitude, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
After checking a few more corridors, we finally reached the class where that girl Valencia probably was.
My gaze swept over all the students, and I noticed how she was almost sprawled on the desk in the last row.
A snicker left my mouth at her attitude. She was acting like she really owned this University and no one was capable of touching or acting against her.
I looked at the dean, who panicked before looking at the girl.
"Cia!" He shouted, making my men wince slightly at his loud voice due to our sensitive hearing.
I saw how the girl sitting in front of this girl, turned around and shook her body slightly.
I was hoping for her to sit straight abruptly and look like a deer caught in headlights, just like any normal person should behave when they are caught sleeping in the class.
However, to my surprise, she just swatted the girl's hand away before getting more comfortable on the desk.
"This girl, I swear she is the reason for my high blood pressure -" The dean murmured under his breath, and I smirked.
Without wasting a single second, I started walking towards the girl, wanting to tease her just to see her full expression eyes again.
The guy sitting beside her immediately shuffled his seat away as soon as I reached the girl.
'Damn, Cia is definitely in trouble,'
'I feel really bad for her,'
'Damn, look at those muscles,'
'I am sure he can crush her skull between his biceps,'
'Even the thought makes me shudder,'
'I volunteer to die in those arms in place of Cia,'
I heard murmurs from the girls around us, and I suppressed the urge to roll my eyes before placing my finger on her forehead.
I was about to flick her forehead to wake her, but remembering her innocent blinking eyes, I thought against it. Rather than that, I leaned closer to her ears.
"The rogues are here. Run," I whispered in her ears.
Wait. What was I doing? Would this girl act to the word rogue when she is sleeping so soundly? With a sigh, I was about to hold her chin to force her face up and tickle her under her jaws.
However, to my surprise, she opened her eyes, making her look directly into my eyes.
And damn, the way her eyes widened…
"What-" Valencia gasped as she bent backward to create some distance between us.
My pupils dilated when I saw her seat wobbling because of her sudden movement.
"F*ck!" She cursed out loud, almost falling backward, and I, who was standing right in front of her quickly grabbed her hand, but who would've thought that her stumbling would make the leg of the chair she was sitting on entangle in my leg, and would lose my balance, sending both of us down?
Seeing the fear of pain in her eyes, I instinctively turned her around so I was hitting the ground first and taking the most impact.
Good thing I didn't fall completely and only leaned on the wall sidewards.
"Owwww," She moaned as she half fell on me.
"What are you made of? Cement? Rocks?" She exclaimed, rubbing her nose and scowling at me.
Was she really cursing me in a situation like this?
I stood swiftly, making her stand in the process.
"For someone who just got saved from her head being opened, you surely have a peculiar way of showing your gratitude," I commented to the girl who was still rubbing her nose.
"Grateful for what? It was your fault. Who asked you to sneak on me?" She scoffed.
"Cia!" The dean scolded her, and I smirked at the innocent pout she immediately made before looking at her feet.
A cute reaction of hers.
"Are you going to say thanks, or should I talk to the dean to deduct your credits for sleeping in the class?" I asked, and she gritted her teeth.
"Opportunist, power bully, hooligan,"
I could see all those words clearly in her eyes. She didn't even need to mouth them. That was how full of expressions she was.
I was about to ask her if she was cursing me in her mind when she quickly stepped forward and blinked her eyes innocently at me.
"Thank you for saving my life, oh dear knight in shining armor," she said as she held my hand close to her heart, making Reaper chuckle at her attitude.
I am sure she was doing this with a heavy heart, and I shook my head at her before walking back to the podium.
I looked at the dean, who immediately nodded at me to continue speaking since all the students were here.
"Since everyone is awake, I am here to make an announcement," I said, my gaze meeting Valencia's, who quickly averted her gaze.
But I didn't.
I was enjoying her nervousness.
"I am sure you all know we are from the founders' team. Let me introduce myself first. I..." I paused, looking at the girl.
"My name is Shadow, I am the secretary of the original main founder," I said on whims.
'What the -' Reaper stood from his place, probably confused, but the amusement in his eyes was too loud.
Heck, even I was confused. Why the hell did I do that?!!
Shadow and Greta, who were standing behind me, immediately coughed as if they were choking on their saliva.
'Sir! If you are Shadow, who the hell am I? Are you snatching my job away from me and taking the beta position too? Aren't you satisfied with the alpha position only?' Shadow immediately exclaimed in my head through the mind-link while Greta chuckled softly.
'Boy, you were calling me a spoiled brat. Look what you did. You are so whipped,' Reaper commented, and I gulped, knowing all too well that I got myself into some good complicated stuff.
'Well, who am I to complain? I have been living a monotonous life for quite some time. This would be fun now,' Reaper immediately said, making me grit my teeth.
I saw the boy sitting beside Valencia placing his hand on hers as if he was comforting her while he whispered something into her ears, making my brows furrowed immediately. Wasn't this girl enjoying the human attention a bit too much?
"And I am here as your supervisor for the research," I blurted out, my pupils dilating when I realized what I said just now because of the distraction.
Not only me, my men, and that girl, but even the dean was shocked by my choice of words.
I am screwed for sure.
A chapter dedicated to Velveta for personally reaching out to me and expressing her likeness towards my work. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
