Capítulo 6: Wool's Orphanage And Introduction

McGonagall pov

Yesterday passed rather quickly due to the anticipation of today. Like every year, my duty is to introduce muggle-born or muggle-raised wizards or witches to the wonders of magic and Hogwarts. But today is special because now I stand in front of the very orphanage from which Dumbledore fetched Tom Riddle, aka Voldemort. However, a surprise awaited me...

Professor McGonagall now stood, surprised and pleased to see that the once dismal and neglected environment of the orphanage had been transformed into a welcoming and nurturing space for orphaned children. McGonagall marveled at the efforts made to improve the facilities, understanding that a supportive environment is crucial for the emotional and psychological well-being of young children.

As I step into the refurbished Wool's Orphanage, I notice the simple yet welcoming interior. The walls are painted in soft, soothing colors, and the furniture, though modest, is clean and comfortable. In the common areas, there are basic wooden tables and chairs arranged around a cozy fireplace, perfect for gathering and sharing stories. Large windows let in natural light, making the space feel airy and inviting.

"Hello, ma'am, do you need something?" Professor McGonagall was abruptly drawn from her musings by an elderly voice. She followed the voice to come face to face with a woman in her late sixties.

"Ah, yes, you see, I am a professor at Hogwarts School, and I've come here regarding a child who is qualified to attend our school," McGonagall answered.

"Oh, who might be the lucky one?" the elderly woman, who was also the caretaker, asked eagerly.

"That would be Nigel Black," answered McGonagall.

"Oh, Nigel! He is certainly an enigma. I have never seen such a kid. Not only is he smart, but he is also a born leader. Even older children listen to him," continued the caretaker.

Minerva, listening intently to the caretaker, began to form an image of Nigel that was far different from her initial opinion. She now clearly saw that he was a good person. But... 'I will not decide now. I can't judge someone so soon,' she inwardly thought.

"Ma'am, would you please show me his room? I want to meet him personally. We have to discuss something," McGonagall questioned after the caretaker stopped talking.

"Very well. It's noon; he will be in his room. Come, I will show you," replied the caretaker.

After that, she led McGonagall to the first-floor third room. Before knocking, she paused. After a moment, a boy opened the door.

As Professor McGonagall observed the 11-year-old boy, she couldn't help but be struck by his captivating presence. His hair, as dark as a raven's wing, fell in sleek waves around his face, exuding an air of aristocratic refinement reminiscent of his Black lineage. Yet, it was his eyes that drew her attention the most – a piercing shade of blue, reminiscent of the depths of the Hogwarts lake on a clear winter's day.

Despite his young age, there was a maturity to his features that belied his years, a quiet confidence that seemed to radiate from within. His expression was composed, his posture straight-backed and dignified, as if he carried the weight of his heritage with ease. Yet, there was a hint of curiosity in his gaze, a thirst for knowledge and adventure that mirrored the spirit of so many young wizards who passed through Hogwarts' hallowed halls.

After a brief introduction by the caretaker of both parties, she left them to their discussion.

"Well, Mr. Black, you may not know me, but I am Professor McGonagall from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry," said Professor McGonagall after a moment of silence, eager to gauge his reaction. It was always amusing to see the reaction of muggle-borns.

Contrary to her expectations, she only saw mild surprise and curiosity. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? A school for magic? How can I believe it's the real deal and not some new ideology to kidnap talented young ones in the name of magic?" asked Nigel, raising his eyebrows.

Hearing this, McGonagall's eyebrows twitched in both amusement and irritation. "Very well, it is our protocol to show some magic tricks to muggle-borns to alleviate their suspicions," she replied, taking out her wand and transforming a nearby stool into a pig.

Despite his occlumency, Nigel couldn't hide his amusement. He didn't even try, knowing it would arouse suspicion and questions he wasn't willing to answer. So, he allowed all his thoughts and reactions to be seen, and anyone attempting legilimency on him would encounter false memories or thoughts.

"I can understand your curiosity, but sometimes during childhood magical kids perform magic unintentionally when they are emotional or something," McGonagall said, slightly amused by his reaction.

"Hmm, if you say so. I remember until the 7th year, it sometimes happened. Something out of my reach would suddenly appear in my hand, etc.," replied Black, slightly tilting his head and putting his finger on his chin.

"Cute," muttered the professor, observing him. Then she asked, "What do you mean until the 7th year? After that, nothing happened. How?"

"I learned to control it," Black replied, demonstrating by levitating chairs, tables, books, and pencils in the room. Seeing this, Professor McGonagall was shocked.

"Such precise control over magic and to such an extent! Even second-year students would struggle with such acts," she thought to herself, impressed.

"Your mastery over magic is truly remarkable, Mr. Black. It speaks volumes about your innate talent and dedication. Such precision and control at your age are rare indeed. It seems Hogwarts will not only be honored to have you but also privileged to witness your growth and potential unfold within its hallowed halls."replied Professor Mcgonagall.

"Very well, be ready half an hour later; we will be heading to Diagon Alley," McGonagall declared, leaving to confer with the caretaker about Nigel's schooling and living arrangements.

As Nigel prepared, his mind swirled with thoughts. 'Now that they know about my magical talent, they shouldn't suspect anything if I demonstrate my progress. But in case of an enemy attack, I must have something up my sleeve. I won't reveal my full potential yet. As for Dumbledore, I'm uncertain of his intentions. His "greater good" philosophy demands caution. And then there's the matter of my heritage and the obstacles I may face...'

"Nigel, are you ready?" McGonagall's voice snapped him out of his reverie.

"Yes, let's go," Nigel replied, exiting his room.

"So, Professor, how will we be traveling to Diagon Alley?" I asked eagerly.

"Mr. Nigel, in the wizarding world, we primarily utilize four modes of transportation," Professor McGonagall began, her tone authoritative.

"1st, Apparition-A magical means of transport where a witch or wizard can vanish or appear out of thin air, a skill you'll learn in your sixth year.

2nd, the Floo Network-a magical means of transport using enchanted fireplaces.

3rd, Portkeys- Magical objects charmed to transport individuals to predetermined locations within a set time frame.

And finally 4th, the Knight Bus- A magical vehicle that traverses the entire country, with routes extending all over Britain. Muggle-borns often find it convenient due to their unfamiliarity with fireplaces, portkeys, and apparition. So, step aside and observe."
