Capítulo 6: Strength Build

This unexpected encounter with Qrow left Oscar nervously slurping away at his ramen, his chopsticks clinking against the bowl. Qrow, ever nonchalant, sat beside him at the ramen bar, taking a swig from his trusty flask before casually tucking it away.

"So, who taught you to fight like that?" Qrow's curiosity was evident in his voice, his gaze fixed intently on the young farm boy. It was a question that stirred a sense of unease within Oscar, prompting a silent exchange with the voice in his head.

'Keep calm, Oscar. Just say some bullshit,' the voice advised, though Oscar couldn't help but feel a pang of uncertainty. 'I don't know him like you do!?'

'Fine, just repeat what I say,' the voice insisted, guiding Oscar's response.

With newfound composure, Oscar finished his ramen, setting the bowl down with practiced precision. He cleaned himself up and turned to face Qrow, his demeanor surprisingly composed. "I was self-taught," Oscar began, his tone steady. "I spent hours watching DustTube videos, trying to mimic the moves I saw. It took time, but eventually, I got the hang of it. So, why do you ask, mister?" His words were laced with a hint of casual defiance, a mask to hide his nerves.

Qrow's narrowed gaze betrayed a flicker of suspicion at the sudden change in demeanor, but he brushed it off, focusing on the matter at hand. "Alright, kid, let's cut to the chase," he said, his voice tinged with a hint of frustration. "I'm short on Huntsmen to lend a hand around Mistral. Seems like everyone's tied up elsewhere. And now, I'm resorting to recruiting kids..." He paused, running a hand wearily over his face before continuing. "So, you wanna help my group out, kid?"

"Yes!" Oscar's response was immediate and resolute, his enthusiasm catching Qrow off guard. It was a moment of unexpected determination, one that piqued the seasoned Huntsman's interest.

Oscar couldn't help but notice the surge of excitement within him, though it felt oddly like it didn't feel like his own emotions. "Sorry... I mean, yes..." he chuckled nervously, acknowledging the sudden burst of enthusiasm to Qrow.

Qrow raised an eyebrow at the kid's abrupt change in demeanor. "You're a weird one, kid," he remarked, before turning and heading towards the exit. "Come on, let's go," he called back, and Oscar hastened to follow. As they walked through the night-lit streets of Mistral, vibrant with activity and life, Oscar found himself drawn into the city's nocturnal energy.

"So, kid, why do you wanna be a Huntsman?" Qrow's question lingered in the air, prompting Oscar to wrestle with his response.

"I always have," Oscar began tentatively, his voice tinged with uncertainty. "Just recently, I realized I might be strong enough to be a Huntsman... so, I wanted to put it to the test." His answer felt incomplete, wavering between doubt and determination.

Qrow chuckled in response, his eyes scanning the young boy beside him with a mix of admiration and intrigue. "Really? You just figured that out, huh?" he mused, impressed by Oscar's modesty despite his evident prowess. "Took down a notorious thief with a punch that could send a Ursa major flying..."

Oscar's cheeks flushed slightly at the praise, his gaze fixed on the ground as he continued. "Oh, uh, my Aunt used to read me stories and old comic books about heroes, like Super Huntsman Man," he added, hoping to provide some semblance of an explanation.

Qrow's surprise was evident as he paused, processing Oscar's revelation. "Super Huntsman Man? Haven't heard about that comic in ages," he chuckled, a hint of nostalgia coloring his tone. "It was popular when I was young."

In Oscar's mind, a brief exchange between him and the voice echoed. 'I just went through your memories, and that comic about Super Huntsman Man sucks,' the voice remarked, its disdain evident. Oscar, however, remained defensive. 'Hey! I love that comic, I grew up with it,' he retorted, unwilling to let go of his childhood favorite.

But before the debate could continue, Oscar was brought back to reality by Qrow's voice. "Remnant to Oscar, you there?" the Huntsman's words snapped him out of his reverie, reminding him of the conversation at hand.

"Uh, yeah, just lost in thought," Oscar replied, his tone tinged with nervousness. Qrow regarded him with a curious gaze. "Yeah, you seem to do that a lot."

As they continued walking through the bustling streets of Mistral, Oscar marveled at the illuminated lanterns casting warm glows across the cityscape. They traversed through the diverse layers of the city, each level offering a unique perspective of Mistral's vibrant culture and architecture. Eventually, they arrived at a house, where Qrow led them inside.

Upon entering, Oscar immediately recognized Team RNJR, the legendary group of Huntsmen and Huntresses. They were seated on a couch, engaged in conversation until they noticed Qrow and Oscar's arrival.

My eyes widened with excitement as I observed the enticing rewards. 'Oscar, I need you to make friends with Team RNJR!!!' I urgently conveyed this to him. Despite the urgency, Oscar couldn't help but comment on the intensity. 'Okay, but why are you yelling in my head? You're going to give me a headache,' he remarked, his head beginning to throb. 'Make friends = new spells!!!' I reiterated urgently, emphasizing the significance of forming these bonds. With that, Oscar's determination solidified, understanding the potential benefits awaiting him: 'new spells.' is all that he needed to hear.

Qrow walked past them with a simple statement, "This is Oscar, he's joining us," before disappearing into his room, leaving Oscar feeling a bit stranded in the awkward silence that ensued.

Sensing the tension, Ruby, the girl in red, took the initiative to break the ice. "Uh, hi, I'm Ruby. And sorry about my uncle," she apologized to Oscar.

Oscar quickly waved off her apology with a friendly smile. "Oh, no worries. It's nice to meet you, Ruby," he replied, grateful for the attempt to ease the awkwardness. Ren stepped forward next, offering a polite greeting. "Hello, I'm Lie Ren," he introduced himself with a respectful bow.

Following Ren, the blonde-haired boy introduced himself as Jaune. "Hi, I'm Jaune. Nice to meet ya," he said warmly, extending his hand in greeting. Oscar reciprocated the gesture with a firm handshake, appreciating Jaune's friendly demeanor.

Just as Oscar thought the introductions were complete, he felt someone breathing down his neck. Startled, he turned around to see Nora, whose sudden proximity caused him to stumble backward and fall onto the floor.

"Nora! Please, we only just met him. Please be nice," Ren reprimanded gently, though there was a hint of amusement in his voice. Nora giggled mischievously before reaching down to help Oscar up.

"Sorry about that! I'm Nora, by the way. Do you like pancakes?" she asked enthusiastically, her energy contagious.

Oscar was momentarily taken aback by the sudden change in atmosphere and the eccentricity of Nora's personality. Meanwhile, the voice in his head couldn't contain its laughter at Nora's antics.

Ruby led the conversation with a question, her curiosity piqued by her uncle's decision to bring Oscar along. "So, why did my uncle bring you here, Oscar?" she inquired, wondering about the purpose behind Oscar's presence, especially considering his younger age.

"Not sure, something about helping you guys around Mistral," Oscar responded, his uncertainty evident in his tone.

Ruby's face lit up with enthusiasm at the prospect. "Oh, that's great! Mistral is going to need a lot of help. Many of the Huntsmen haven't been working, so it's up to us to lend a hand," she remarked optimistically.

Nora couldn't resist interjecting, her playful curiosity getting the better of her. "Yup, but aren't you a little young to help? You don't look like you could do much," she remarked, poking fun at Oscar's diminutive stature as she playfully examined his muscles.

Feeling embarrassed by Nora's teasing, Oscar tried to maintain his composure. "Nora, stop," Team RNJR scolded her, prompting a half-hearted apology from Nora.

Despite his embarrassment, Oscar attempted to assert himself. "I guess I'm young, but I can definitely hold my own," Oscar said, attempting to project confidence despite feeling embarrassed by Nora's teasing. "Oh yeah? Prove it!" Nora challenged, her competitive spirit undeterred.

Ren intervened, seeking to diffuse the situation and apologize for Nora's brashness. "Nora, stop. Don't be rude," he reprimanded gently, turning to Oscar with an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry about her. She just likes to fight and hit things hard," he explained, a hint of resignation in his voice, while Nora enthusiastically affirmed her love for combat.

"No, It's fine I accept your challenge."

Oscar, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement, found himself agreeing to Nora's challenge. But deep down he knew those words were not his own, he protested to the voice in his head. 'Are you crazy? You're going to get me killed!' Oscar's inner voice protested, but Orion seemed unfazed. 'Oh, relax. You'll be fine,' Orion reassured him confidently. 'And who knows? Maybe we'll get a quest out of it. Plus, you need the experience.' Despite his reservations, Oscar begrudgingly acknowledged the allure of a quest that led to learning new spells.

They all stood outside the house, Oscar and Nora positioned opposite each other, with Team RNJR watching from the sidelines.

Before the match began, I decided to check on the status of the quest.

It seemed that befriending Nora involved a fight, as expected.

Ruby counted down, "3...2...1...GO!"

With a fierce battle cry, Nora charged at Oscar, her hammer poised to strike. Oscar swiftly dodged her massive swing, causing Nora's hammer to crash into the ground, leaving behind a sizable crater.

"One hit and you're done, my friend," Orion warned, but Oscar was already focused on evading Nora's relentless attacks.

Oscar continued to dodge Nora's swings until she managed to sweep his leg, sending him tumbling to the ground. Anticipating her next move, Oscar swiftly executed a taijutsu move, delivering a well-aimed kick to Nora's stomach. The blow staggered her, allowing Oscar to follow up with a rapid flurry of punches.

However, Nora quickly recovered and shoved Oscar away, then struck him with her hammer, sending him hurtling towards a nearby tree.

Oscar lies unconscious against the tree, his body limp and motionless. Nora, triumphant in her victory, jumped for joy, celebrating her win over her new friend, "Yay, I won, thanks for the fight new friend." Ruby, Ren, and Jaune watched with concern, unsure of Oscar's condition.

With the completion of the quest, I took control of Oscar's unconscious body, swiftly updating his stats and allocating all available points into Strength.

But I wasn't finished yet. Standing up from where Oscar had fallen, I faced Nora with determination. "I'm not done yet," I declared, my voice resonating with newfound strength.

As I charged towards Nora, fists clenched and flames dancing around my hands, she braced herself for another round. With a swing of her hammer, she aimed for me, but I intercepted her attack, grabbing hold of her weapon mid-swing.

Nora's eyes widened in surprise as she realized her hammer was easily held in check, and she saw the flames enveloping my fist, "Uh oh," Nora said. Before she could react, I delivered a powerful punch, sending her flying across the area and crashing to the ground, her aura shattered.

As Nora lay there, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt. Perhaps I had hit her too hard. "I'm sorry, Nora!" I called out, expressing my remorse as she struggled to raise a thumbs-up from the ground. "It's fine, that fight was awesome!" she managed to reply before succumbing to unconsciousness.

Seeing that Oscar was still out cold, I decided to remain in control until he regained consciousness. Together with Team RNJR, we carefully helped Nora inside and tended to her injuries.

Jaune and Ren had taken Nora to recover her aura, leaving me and Ruby alone in the living room.

"Sorry about Nora again; she gets very hyperactive," Ruby apologized, her voice tinged with concern.

"Oh no, it's all right. I should be the one apologizing; I was the one who knocked her out," I replied, feeling a bit embarrassed as I rubbed the back of my head.

Ruby then fidgeted with her fingers nervously, as if she had a personal question to ask. "Ruby, is there something you need?" I inquired, noticing her unease.

Ruby looked a bit surprised at being caught but quickly composed herself. "Oh, um, can I see your... weapon? Please?" she asked, her curiosity evident.

Chuckling at her excitement, I retrieved my bo-staff from my bag and showed it to Ruby. She examined it closely, scanning for any hidden mechanisms.

"Where's the gun?" Ruby asked, puzzled by the absence of a firearm attachment. I shook my head, explaining, "There is no gun; it's just a regular bo-staff."

Ruby's expression shifted to one of disbelief. "What, no guns? That's absurd! Every Huntsman needs a gun!" she exclaimed, clearly taken aback by the unconventional design.

"What about Jaune?" I countered, prompting Ruby to raise an eyebrow inquisitively. "Touche, but how did you know Jaune doesn't have a gun?" she questioned, her suspicion evident.

Feeling a bit nervous under her scrutiny, I quickly fabricated a response. "Uh, I watched the Vytal Festival and saw Jaune only use a sword and shield," I lied, hoping to deflect any further probing.

Ruby seemed to accept my explanation, nodding in understanding. "Nice. So, what academy did you learn from?" she inquired, her curiosity piqued.

"I never went; I was self-taught," I admitted, anticipating her surprise.

"Cool. Anything else, Mr. Mysterious?" Ruby asked, her eyes twinkling with curiosity.

Arching an eyebrow at her nickname for me, I replied, "Me, mysterious? Why's that?"

Ruby chuckled at my response before explaining, "Oh, you know, you show up, younger than all of us, and you take down Nora in one hit. So, got anything else that's cool? Like, your semblance is fire; anything cool you can do with it?"

Considering her question carefully, I replied with a half-truth, "I guess you're right. I can coat my hands in flames, and that's about it." However, I made sure not to reveal too much, knowing that Oscar hadn't even unlocked his semblance yet.

Now I think it's time for me to start asking questions, "So, what do you guys do around here, also why does Qrow need my help with?"I asked Ruby, and she responded with, "We just take on some missions here and there nothing special, and we have been trying to gather huntsman around Mistral to help, but you were the only one. and we don't know what to do," Ruby half-heartedly says, "so, you can leave if you want, we are just a rag-tag team, helping people out." Ruby sighs about the last part.

"Don't worry, I'll stay. I've always wanted to help people, and this will be a great experience for me," I reassured Ruby, who seemed to brighten up at my commitment. "Thanks, Oscar," she said gratefully.

After chatting for a while longer, it grew late, and Ruby showed me to an extra room where I would be staying. I settled in for the night, reflecting on the day's events.

It was clear that without Ozpin, they lacked a leader to guide them and address the suspicious Lionheart. If they continued to delay, Salem's forces could obtain the relic without resistance. I pondered how I could nudge them towards being wary of Leo and make it seem as though Ozpin were still present to provide direction.

Eventually, an idea began to form in my mind.
