Recollection Gu, Search Gu, Brain Gu, Instant Gu!
The Four Gu Worms followed his Will, drilling out of his Aperture and floating in front of Yan.
"Fuse!" Yan commanded inwardly, his Dark Green coloured Upper Stage primeval essence rose like smoke, enveloping the Four Gu worms in midair.
Yan immediately shut his eyes, manipulating the Four Gu worm's consciousness and making them close their distance.
After Ten minutes of concentration, the Gu worm's bumped into each other and fused together perfectly.
At once, the fused Gu worms erupted in a bright white light, illuminating the entire Room.
Yan could feel four of his consciousness fusing together into One. He didn't dare to lose focus.
While maintaining the bright ball of light using the now single consciousness, he threw the Primeval Stones already kept ready one by one.
The primeval stones were engulfed by the ball of light and only rock powders remained, scattering on the floor. Each time the ball of light swallowed a primeval stone, its edges would expand a little.
The ball of light absorbed the natural primeval essence and became bigger and bigger.
Gradually, it changed from the size of a human-head to a Washtub size.
After throwing the last piece of primeval stone, the dazzling light turned softer. In a while, the ball of light slowly shrunk and finally dissipated into the air.
A completely new Gu worm calmly hovered in front of Yan.
It was a pitch black lady-bug, carrying a small white brain on its back. This white was not pale like Xuan paper and was not milky white like milk, but was a kind of moist white like that of the luster of jade.
This was — Rank Two Instant Remembering Jade Brain Gu!
A one time consumable Gu, upon usage, the user would remember a single thing in their long river of memories instantly.
"Finally!"
Yan collapsed on the floor with back full of sweat, he let out a mouthful of turbid air and felt his heart relieved.
"7th time! I finally succeeded in refining this damned bug!"
It's been two months since he started doing the missions. He's already broken through to the Upper Stage, yet the most notable aspect of this time is his unbroken string of failures over these past two months.
Even after failing for Six continuous times, he didn't want to give up, mainly because of two reasons:
First, this is a Rank 2 Gu worm. What he is trying to do is refine a Rank 2 Gu worm at his first step without any semblance of Refining experience. Not to mention his mere Rank 1 Gu master cultivation...
Second, after constant failures, He realized something about himself.
Yan could easily split his consciousness and control it perfectly! That too at the beginning itself. Something he thought could only be gained through experience.
Nevertheless, he was happy about it and never felt depressed.
"Now is not the time to use you yet." Yan smiled mirthfully, he instantly refined the new Gu worm using the Boundary Gu and stored it in his Aperture.
It was already late into the night, he tucked in tightly and slept on the futon-like bed.
Refining Gu worms doesn't just consume primeval essence, it also has fatigue in the mind.
...
Two Days Later, 1st July arrived. The mid-Summer point which marks the completion of Four Months since Yan's arrival to the Gu World.
The wheel of red fire, the sun slowly rose up on the East side of the yellow plains.
Its light was eye-piercing, but it was also a sort of bright and gentle ray.
The Summer wind rustled through the air, while the hot steam drifted aimlessly.
"Hurrumph!" A black-colored wild boar rushed madly with its four hooves on the ground, its mane pricking up.
The Boar left behind dust and leaves in its path as it neared the Human challenging it from a distance.
Yan stood there silently, with fire burning on his right hand.
Just as the Wild boar's Tusks got closer to him,
Fire Gu!
Boom.
Fire burst out of his palm and covered the entire boar.
Because he consumed 5% of his Upper Stage Primeval essence, the force and heat behind it roasted the entire pig alive.
With a loud crash, the boar fell and smoke drifted off from it.
The entire pig charred black as blood and remains flowed out from its orifices. A scent of burning meat filled the air.
"Today seems higher than yesterday." A voice came from the nearby tree.
Hei Shou walked out from behind the tree, fresh blood and remains of Wild beasts could be seen all over his clothes.
Yan walked up towards the roasted pig and broke off its Tusk. He stored it in a clothing bag without replying.
Hei Shou gritted his teeth at that and shouted, "It seems you are slacking off again. I already completed my 18th hunt, while you still seem fresh out of a bath."
"I am not slacking off," Yan glanced at Hei Shou, his eyes filled with a mix of annoyance and resignation.
He responded calmly."I have been busy with refining Gu worms and improving my cultivation. Besides, I have already fulfilled the quota for today's hunt. What about you? Have you finished your share? You don't appear sincere enough, Brother Shou?"
Hei Shou scowled, his eyes narrowing. "Sincerity my ass! You are the last person to talk about sincerity. Don't change the subject.. You've been neglecting your duties as a member of our team. We can't afford to have weak links when we're out here in the wilderness. You have to support your teammates even when you completed your quota."
Yan's expression hardened, his voice turning cold. "You think I don't know the importance of our mission? I am well aware of the dangers we face and the consequences of failure. But, it isn't my job to baby-sit if you're Week."
Hei Shou sneered, crossing his arms over his chest. "Weak? Don't make me laugh. We're here to kill the invading Wild beasts, personal strength don't matter when doing missions as group. Two fists cannot beat four palms!"
If a bystander were to observe this scene from a distance, they would likely assume that Yan was neglecting his duties and sleeping on the Mission, while Hei Shou sternly reprimanded him for his laziness. The sight of Yan seemingly idle and Hei Shou scolding him would undoubtedly create the impression that Yan was shirking his responsibilities.
"What kind of nonsensical reasoning is that?" Yan's eyes twitched in annoyance. Instead of engaging in further argument, he closed his eyes, focusing on recovering his primeval essence.
Whoosh!
Just as Hei Shou was about to erupt in anger, a brilliant light whistled past him, slicing through the neck of a hidden Wild Boar. The boar's head toppled gracefully, bearing the trace of a clean blade cut in its place.
"Are you bothering him again, Brother Shou?" A man in his early twenties emerged from the forest, wielding a Rank 2 Blade Gu in his hands.
This newcomer was Hei Zhen, one of the individuals who had witnessed Yan's previous battle against Hei Shou. In fact, he was one of the few who had captured Yan's attention during that time.
Both He Zhen and Hei Shou had recently achieved the rank of Rank 2 Gu Masters and were carrying out missions within the perimeter of the Fiery Lava Pit to acclimate themselves to their Rank 2 Gu worms.
In truth, the only reason Yan was able to accompany them with his cultivation at the Rank 1 Upper stage was because he had defeated both of them even after they advanced to Rank 2.
This fact had increasingly frustrated Hei Shou.
"Hmph, I'm not bothering him. If he has so much free time on his hands, why can't he finish this quickly?" Hei Shou huffed in annoyance.
Hei Zhen sighed and glanced at Yan, who had stowed away the remaining primeval stones in his pouch and gotten up.
Observing Hei Zhen trailing behind him, Yan slowed his steps and asked a question that had been weighing on his mind for quite some time.
"Brother Zhen, do you know why our Resource Point often attracts Beast tides?"
"Hm?"
Hei Zhen was caught off guard by the question. He shook his head and replied, "Brother Yan's thoughts are not unfounded. However, ever since I arrived in this place, such occurrences have become commonplace."
"In truth, it's not just the beast tide. The Fiery Lava Pit has gained a reputation for drawing various 'Disasters,' as I was informed by a Senior in my early days."
Yan pondered in silence and nodded. "Thank you for shedding light on this matter, Brother Zhen."
