Capítulo 11: CH: 11 First D.A.D.A Lesson

On September 2, 1991, a Monday, Dracula embarked on his first lesson as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts.

Nine o'clock in the morning marked the commencement of the initial class at Hogwarts, with the magical bell tolling punctually across the campus.

As the bell chimed, Dracula opened the side door of his office and descended the marble steps adjacent to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.

Beneath the podium, students adorned in school robes with red and yellow collars—representing Gryffindor and Hufflepuff houses—sat attentively, observing the new professor with keen interest.

Amidst the audience of young wizards from Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, curiosity lingered regarding Dracula's teaching prowess, given his remarkable appearance and demeanor. Would he exhibit extraordinary teaching abilities or merely be a facade like his predecessors?

"Good morning, everyone," Dracula greeted the students briefly, surveying the circle of young wizards, spotting the familiar figures of the Weasley twins from Gryffindor.

"Good morning, professor!" the students responded in unison.

Dracula nodded before continuing, "Following yesterday's ceremony, I trust you are aware that I am your new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. You may address me as Professor Dracula."

"I hope you all have a pleasant experience," Dracula corrected himself, swiftly transitioning for today's agenda. "Without further delay, let's commence the first class of the semester. Today, we will delve into..."

Pausing momentarily, Dracula realized that he had left the chosen textbook, "The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection," and the meticulously prepared lesson plan by his teaching assistant, Quirrell, in his office. Despite the proximity of his office to the classroom and his ability to summon items with a snap of his fingers, Dracula deemed it unprofessional to do so on his first class.

Determined to uphold professionalism, Dracula maintained a composed smile and altered his approach, announcing, "...Today's lesson will be a test of spellcasting ability!"

Observing the bewildered expressions of the students, Dracula's expression twisted into a malicious grin.

"Each of you, demonstrate your best spells on me one by one," Dracula instructed. "As third-year students, I am eager to witness the fruits of your two years at Hogwarts. Begin!"

Without pause, Dracula descended from the stage and approached a young wizard seated in the front row.

"Let's start with you, Mr. Hufflepuff," Dracula addressed the young wizard donning a yellow collar.

Gazing at the slightly immature yet strikingly handsome young man before him, Dracula's eyes gleamed with a hint of admiration, sensing a noble air reminiscent of a vampire aristocrat..

"Is this appropriate, Professor Dracula?" the Hufflepuff hesitated uncertainty clouding his face.

"In the classroom, there exists no place for hesitation," Dracula replied sharply, a challenging gleam in his eyes. "How do you expect to be a great wizard if you can't even attack your professor?"

Encouraged by Dracula's words, the young man nodded resolutely. "I understand, Professor."

With unwavering determination, he raised his wand toward Dracula and cast, "Stupefy!"

Dracula, sporting a serene smile, raised his hand slightly and intercepted the stunning spell with his palm.

Keen observers would note that upon impact, the spell resembled water meeting a rock. The magic dissipated harmlessly upon contact with Dracula's skin, leaving him unscathed.

Incredulous gasps filled the classroom as the young wizards witnessed this spectacle.

"Your spellcasting is commendable for your age," Dracula acknowledged, unperturbed by their astonishment. Turning to the Hufflepuff, he inquired, "What is your name?"

"I am Cedric Diggory, Professor," the Hufflepuff introduced himself.

"Excellent stupefy spell, Mr. Diggory," Dracula praised. "I'll think about what rewards to give you all...Additionally, five points to Hufflepuff!"

Pleased with Cedric's performance, Dracula acknowledged the young wizard's proficiency. The first student tested exceeded expectations, offering insight into Hogwarts' teaching standards and meeting the lofty standards set by his companions centuries ago.

Eager to assess the spellcasting abilities of the remaining students, Dracula anticipated the surprises they might unveil.

The more Dracula tested, the darker his expression grew.

It wasn't until he assessed a Hufflepuff student who struggled to cast spells that Dracula's patience reached its limit.

"What have you been doing in your two years at Hogwarts? Just learning to eat?" he coldly chastised. The fabric of his cloak stirred behind him without a whisper of wind, shrouding the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom in an eerie chill.

The young wizards, petrified, remained motionless, too terrified to react. Some of the more timid individuals even shed tears in fear.

"Enough of this. I refuse to waste any more time like this," Dracula proclaimed impatiently, gesturing towards the quivering students. "All of you, collectively cast your best spells on me!"

"The student with the most potent curse will be exempt from homework. Conversely, the five students with the weakest curses will receive double the workload and evening detention in my office," Dracula commanded.

Cedric, taken aback, rose in protest. "Professor, please reconsider! Stirring up trouble as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor is not a good idea!"

"I am not being impulsive; I simply refuse to waste my time," Dracula retorted nonchalantly. "Your spellcasting prowess is insufficient even to scratch an itch."

His arrogant words left the young wizards momentarily speechless.

Amidst the tension, Fred and George, seated side by side, exchanged knowing glances, brimming with excitement. Would the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor be dismissed on his first day?

Did this mean their wager of twenty gold galleons was in vain?!
