Capítulo 28: you killed them
Ezra watched the body disintegrate and turn into particles of light, which allowed him to know that where they were was not a real-life place, but rather a simulation, but a very good one as they could feel all the things they would normally feel.
He was also surprised that he gained shadow energy from a simulation, guess the system had a way to extract it or something.
"I am sorry that I got scared and almost caused the plan to fail." Leo apologized to Ezra, his head hung low.
Ezra looked at him, he didn't have an issue with Leo, he understood that seeing a magical beast for the first time and up close was terrifying, and at that point, they didn't know it was a simulation.
Ezra had been able to do what he did due to prior knowledge and experience gained from fighting shadows. Lisa had also been in constant spars with Ezra, and she had to be a fast thinker to combat his level of skill.
"There is nothing to be sorry about, at the end you played your part well, so hold your head high and be happy that you succeeded.
You may have been flustered at first, but you could compose yourself and cast your spell without further delay, and it did its job." Ezra said to him.
Leo raised his head in surprise, he looked at Ezra who was looking off to somewhere else, he didn't believe the cold brother could be that considerate and deep.
"We should get going, I plan on killing more of them," Ezra announced.
Lisa and Leo looked at him in confusion, what was the point of seeking out danger?
"Forgive me, brother, but wouldn't it be safe to stay put and survive?" Lisa asked.
Ezra chuckled when he heard her, then a smile etched on his face.
"The answer is simple, I realized something. Remember when I told you of the hint that was given to me concerning the exams? Well, it said there would be fights, and that made me think of duels.
I am sure that there will be a duel, but I don't think that is all. I began thinking, what if the wasn't a hint, but a theme?"
"A theme, what did you mean?" She asked.
"A theme for the exam, what if the theme for the exam is fight? That made me think more, that this test is about survival, if we fought a lot of beasts and survived till the end, we would get a better score.
Because, if we survive but carry out the theme, which is to fight, then we will surely gather more points. This may all be bulshit, but I am willing to bank on it and fight, also aside from gaining extra points, we need practice.
A lot of the kids here are prodigies, sole have trained for long, and are vast in skills and spells. We need every ounce of experience that we can get, and fighting the beasts here is a great source of that experience."
When both of them heard his analysis, they were amazed by how much he had thought about the issue.
"If it is you, bro, I trust your judgment fully, let's go hunting." Lisa agreed to the plan.
Leo looked a bit unsure, but after a moment of thought, he agreed to it. "Let's do it."
"Good, because I have our next target, it is the same type of beast as the one we killed. It is not too far off from here." Ezra informed them.
"How did you notice it?" Leo couldn't help but ask.
"It is a shadow-related spell, don't worry about it," Ezra explained.

Ezra took out his scythe from the body of another magical beast, it was the same as the first one. The was in total their fourth kill so far.
"I think they might be time for another one," Leo said, he had really gotten into it, the fight, the blood-pumping thrill, and the excitement.

An announcement came, and their bodies began disintegrating into light particles. They appeared back in their seats.
As soon as they appeared, their mum hugged them both, she had watched how they fought multiple beasts and came out victorious, and she was ecstatic.
"Congratulations to all of you who have made it this far." Suddenly a voice came from the center of the arena, everyone turned to see and saw a man standing at the center of the arena, his hair was white and he looked refined.
"I will be taking the next aspect of the exams, and that aspect will be the duels, but before that, I would like to inform you that fifty percent of the candidates failed the first examination.
I know it was said to survive, but that was the least of the issues, you also had to thrive and dominate. As a mage, you must thrive in this world, as such, those who hunted and killed beasts are the ones that passed.
If you watch closes, there will be a mark on the palm of those that passed, if you don't see one, then you have failed the examination."
All the candidates quickly looked at their palms, Ezra followed suit, and as expected, there was a diamond-shaped mark in his palm, he looked at his sister and saw that she had one too.
This meant both of them had passed successfully, their mum had a bright smile on her face, and she could barely hold herself back.
The arena soon burst into noise, candidates rebelling against how unfair the examiner was, and that it misled them all, their guardians followed suit and shouted at the man at the center of the arena.
"How insulting." The man said, and then suddenly the gravity on those who were speaking increased, slamming them to the ground and their seats.
Ezra was awed at the precise use of magic this man displayed, and his keen sense of observation that picked out all those who spoke.
He didn't even cast a spell, yet he did something this awesome.
"Do you think we care about what you think, take your things and leave you pieces of trash." The man roared at them.
The arena was quiet as the disqualified candidates as well as their guardians left the arena in large numbers.
When they had all left, it was now time for the duel to get started, the second phase of the exams.
"For this duel, you have to win three out of five matches to pass, the only rules are no killing and no use of forbidden magic, everything Elsa goes.
Now the two candidates that will start will be teleported to the center." The man said everything straight to the point.
Ezra thought he would relax and watch the first fight, but his body turned to light particles and he saw himself in the arena.
"What the hell? I am the first?" He asked in disbelief. He looked up to see his opponent. A young boy like him, with black hair and a blue eye, his other eye was covered by an eye patch.
The boy smiled when he saw Ezra, then he spoke. "You killed them that night, all three of them in cold blood, yet you didn't bat an eye."
