Ezra caught his breath, he bent backward, and faced the sky, a smile shining brightly on his face like he attained some sort of greater happiness.
"So much shadow energy, I can't get enough of it."
Riot and Ezra had dealt with all the surrounding shadows, there was none left standing for now.
The battle had dragged on for a long, but it brought many gains, Ezra had leveled up his shadow armor, and Riot had attained level two, boosting his total strength as a whole.
[You have become a shadow adept, congratulations.]
A message came in from the system, Ezra checked it out and he was beyond happy.
[As a reward, you have gained 1000 shadow energy, 1000 shadow points, and 10 vitality]
Ezra couldn't hold in the happiness, he immediately called out his stats.

Ezra was amazed by how far he had come, he looked at his stats with a shining eye. After some minutes of admiring his growth, he decided to forge ahead.
For the remaining of the distance to the mountain, he and Riot walked unhindered, no shadow came up after they came close to the mountain.
"Something is definitely off about this mountain, something that is preventing shadows from being here," Ezra said to himself.
[Danger, you have awoken a shadow guardian, Tera, the lord of this territory.]
A danger notification came through, Ezra was not expecting something like this, he immediately looked around to see where the guardian was, but he saw nothing.
The ground began trembling, he saw the mountain rising, it kept rising, will it almost touched the sky, and then when the fog moved away, what he saw was a giant red eye shadow tortoise.
The mountain had been the shelf to the tortoise. Unlike other shadows, this tortoise had a form that was very solid it was like it was simply a black tortoise.
Ezra subconsciously stepped back in fear, his body trembled, he lost all focus and could not keep Riot active, so Riot disappeared.
He couldn't say a word, even breathing was difficult for him. He stared at the grand and domineering figure that was before him.
Tera slowly looked at the puny being that had woken it up, its eyes locked onto Ezra and sent shivers done his spine. His bladder was on the verge of breaking open.
His body was covered in cold sweat, his armor disappeared, his scythe fell from his hands.
The tortoise looked at him for what seemed to be an eternity, then it let out a loud snort, the wind from its nose almost caused Ezra to be sent flying.
[The guardian Tera has challenged you to a duel.]
[Scheduled to happen in three years from now]
[Reward for winning: the heart of Tera]
[Penalty for losing: DEATH!]
when he saw the message, he couldn't even react, he just stared at the message. A force pulled at him, and forcefully kicked him out of the shadow realm.
[Tera has removed you from the shadow realm]
Ezra stayed motionless, he sat against a tree and stared into the nothingness, his eyes held no emotions, nothing, just blank.
His mind had yet to comprehend what he had witnessed, a being that only it's presence struck fear into his heart, and destroyed every will that he had.
What did he feel at the moment, fear? Anger, Sadness? Confusion? He didn't know what he was feeling at the moment.
He sat at that spot till it started getting dark, then he got up, and like a zombie, he walked home. His scythe was still in the shadow realm, at the feet of Tera.
Ezra got home, he didn't even have to spar that he was supposed to have with his sister. He went to his room and locked the door.
"Did something happen to Ezra?" Lisa asked her mum.
"I don't know honey, he left early to train." Her mum responded.
"So shouldn't you check up on him?" Lisa asked.
"Yes, but not yet, he wants some alone time, let's give him that. You on the other hand should go train, there is not a moment to lose".
___ ___
Inside his room, Ezra lay on his bed facing the ceiling, his eyes staring into the distance.
"Three years, I have three years." He muttered.
"Can I reach that level in three years? Is this even possible?" He said as he asked himself.
"That being, even Oliver could not come close to it from how I felt, I was utterly petrified. Even reaching Oliver's level should take me longer than three years, how much so that tortoise."
"His presence alone almost rendered me dead, I was on the verge of passing out. How do I fight such a being, even after three years? I never thought that three years would look so short to me, but now it does."
"That tortoise, even the hydra didn't come close, if I had fought the tortoise rather than the hydra, I would have died."
Ezra frowned at this thought, he was enraged at his weakness, he was enraged that even if he didn't physically bow to that tortoise, his mind and soul had bowed, they had given up to the tortoise.
That feeling of helplessness, the feeling he so very hated, yet he was forced back to it once more, he was looked down upon as an inferior being.
"No, I am not inferior. If that tortoise had thought I was inferior, it would have killed me at the spot, but it wanted a real duel.
That means it acknowledges me, and sees that I will be a worthy opponent. Not now, but in three years, I will do my best, no I will go above and beyond, and I will win that fight, the countdown begins now, nothing will stand in my way, the greatest battle of my life, in three years"
